    Huge correction to be made: That SCART to BNC cable is from RetroGamingCables.co.uk ! Huge fan of their products.

    I restored a VA7 later model 1. Mine looks new again and works perfectly. To add some more detail I Nu Finished it after a quick light wet sand to smooth out any imperfections on the casing. Then after buffing off the Nu Finish used a ceramic retailer spray on it made it look brand new. Also cleaned out the ports with alcohol and lightly used mineral oil the lube from rust and clean the contact slot for the cartridges. The one you got in this video is a good one! Better than mine. Guessing it's a VA6 from 1990-91 aka Sonic 1 edition, has the better video and sound. mines from 1995 as the inner casing and serial number says. Mine was most likely a refurbished Core System which basically is a model 2 in a Model 1 casing. It's not bad for what it is! I have a better one like yours but it's in its original box and stored part of my collection.

    Loved this thing! My younger sister had one and we played the hell outta some Sonic the Hedgehog & especially Ms. Pac-Man on it! Would love to just sit with her and play again like we used to. I wonder if she still has hers from childhood though...

    I just went through my Genesis 1 and did a quick clean up but I did some things differently. My motherboard looked fairly clean too so I decided not to tamper with it I just used an air can to blow out some dust. The faceplate I used a toothbrush to clean the crevices and grill I think work better than using your nails. I opted to remove the LED light simply by squeezing the tabs on the inside and the red bezel comes off. I didnt like the dust around my LED light so cleaned it. My reset button was a bit yellowed so I put it in a small bag with Hydrogen peroxide and let sit in the sun and that method worked for me to make look new again. Retobrite or some hair chemicals I've seen can be used also to brighten yellowed plastics. Also I removed the three screws to remove the cartridge door to prevent water getting behind those screws and potentially rusting.

    I washed the shell with warm water and soap and then I put a bit of turtle wax on the shell to make it shine brand new I also used a paint brush and cleaned the whole board with alcohol front and back. The genesis needs love after 25+ years of being encased also the controllers I washed the grime off the buttons and what not. Good video by the way 👍👍👍

  • @ConsolesUnleashed
    @ConsolesUnleashed 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    When putting screws back in you need to reverse screw first to find the correct groove by feeling and listening for the click. Not doing this can potentially break the delicate plastic standoffs when crossing the thread. This is why you never use a powered screwdriver on anything like this.

    • @InvictvsNox
      @InvictvsNox  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree and that's why I do it every time.
      I use a powered screwdriver just about every hour of every day, so I'm pretty attuned to the tolerance of plastic

    • @ConsolesUnleashed
      @ConsolesUnleashed 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@InvictvsNox Nope, it has nothing to do with tolerance. Tolerance is about over tightening and that is not what I mean. I watched your video again and there is no way you screwed any single screw into the original thread with that power tool and if you did it was pure fluke. Most screws blindly screwed in with a power tool WILL create a new thread in the plastic. Do this multiple times and you are left with nothing but a thread-less hole that will never tighten. This is why you must feel for the hole and listen for the click by first slowly reverse screwing. Not possible with a power tool.

    • @InvictvsNox
      @InvictvsNox  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ConsolesUnleashed Unless you're attuned to seeing minute attention to detail after being sped up by 500%, I'm sure you're mistaken. I assure you I wouldn't think of cross-threading anything in these relics I hold sacred as I always anticipate requiring access for serviceability in the future.
      You concern is appreciated though! :)

    • @ConsolesUnleashed
      @ConsolesUnleashed 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@InvictvsNox I don't need to see it 100% to know. It's not possible with a power tool. No matter.

    Hmm.. this doesn't really seem like it needed much of a cleaning at all... Even the small parts you swabbed would have made minor to no difference in performance. If you get a chance to restore a non-working or extremely dirty & semi-functioning MD that'd be really interesting to see.
