I want to thank you so much for your vid on minky fabric - I found you on Pinterest. I’ve never used a sewing machine and I’m 48. I recently retired early - and started crafting and my favorite is working w/ fabric - I’ve only done 1) fabric banners 2) rag ties for bottom of lamps and 3) curtains. I’ve been wanting to for months but worried about trying to do a quilt and you’ve given me enough knowledge to at least give it a try.
Found you and cuddle on TH-cam a couple of weeks ago now I am obsessed and sharing with all my friends introducing Cuddle fabric.....hoping to see a class using cut out squares into a rag quilt with block size of 10 inches I'm having the hardest time with.....
Trying to make reusable paper towels using terry cloth and flannel together. I'm going to wash the terry cloth but how do I know which is the right side? Is the right side the inside facing together when cut straight off the bolt? Or is it the outside, facing out? It is white and is 10 ounce weight. Since the "paper towels" will just be for drying hands and maybe wiping a few spills, does the direction of the nap even matter? I found your video very educational. Thanks to this shelter in place order due to COVID-19 I got my sewing machine out and serger and have been making a few crafts for the home.
That's a great use for the terry! The right side has the larger loops, but but for a project like what you are doing the nap and right/wrong side is fairly unimportant. It'll be absorbent no matter which way you sew it. :) -teresa
ShannonFabrics Thank you very much for the quick reply. I washed it without serging the ends so it unraveled a bit. That’s ok. I’ll use the side with the larger loops facing out; after washing and drying it was easier to tell. Washing the flannel next. 😊

What is the name of the fabric that is used on socks? You know that spongy, cottony, stretchy material that is used on socks. What is it called? it’s driving me crazy! is that Terry Cloth?

Great idea! I think they would work well in any of the weights, but my favorite for its feel and wearability is the 16 oz. terry cloth. -teresa

We no longer manufacture terry cloth, but it can still be found at some quilt shops if you do an online search for it.
