What does trust look like at your school?

Thank you Tim, for the TH-cam! I think there was a level of trust when I worked in Hawaii. I think it was the Hawaiian, Asian, Filipino culture of working together as a real team. It was so comfortable. That was 1980. Here in the north of Canada, I find some teachers are cold, not very warm and friendly and no inclusion. The Department of Education is working on Aboriginal education in schools and inclusion for all students.

Rarelly do I know of classrooms in the public schools in the state of Arkansas that have two teachers in one classroom. That would be so wonderful! I was an early childhood teacher of three and four year olds in a Head Start program at one time and shared teaching with another. It was great! We found there were times when one of us just couldn't resonate with a child the other could. Two teachers gave balance to the classroom atmosphere and needs. Not only did we grow trust, we modeled that trust and cooperation to the children and families whose lives we touched. We completed each other very well. We could give each other empathy throughout the day, work together on projects... it was beneficial in many ways. And when one of us was absent, the other could maintain the consistency in the day the children so much needed. Thank you for the thought-provoking videos from Finland!

This is what can make or break a teaching experience! I am blessed to have experienced something very similar!

Thank you for this, Tim. I am so fortunate to have a very trusting relationship with my grade level partner. Trust makes us feel supported, included, and understood, which makes us better teachers.

Thanks for your impressions about Finnish education. I did experience something close to this level of trust when I was a SPED teacher at the CA Dep of Mental Health. I didn't feel this level of trust at about five other school settings. There is a lot of competition between teachers and some teachers were known taddle tales who would inaccurately report things to the principal rather than ask the teacher involved what is going on.

Competition among teachers is no fun. Definitely hurts the school culture. Thanks for your comment, Eric!

Education is the very foundation of a Civil Society - However, Quality of Education is not necessarily question of MONEY - There has to be fundamental changes in our APPROACH, APPRECIATION and ATTITUDE.
Finland, a small country (5.5 million people - Greater Houston - in an area of ½ of Texas) with a culturally homogeneous population (same basic value system), has one of the higher education levels in the world, ranking 1st and 2nd among middle school students in math, science, and writing - while US ranked 12th-15th - now 21st. My high school (in Finland) was the same as the first two years in the US College. The US Higher Education (post-graduate) Institutions are by and large excellent, however a large portion (and in some cases the majority) of the students are foreigners with their respective government sponsored funding. Who are we educating?
