Wow! I thought that was a lot of milk jugs in the spot near you. Then I noticed the ones toward the upper left of the frame... I was amazed when I saw the third group! Hope you have lots of success! 🌱
@@budgetgardeningvita Yes! I have a hard time getting pepers to ripe.. they grow lovely and lush, but dont produce mush fruit un til later in the summer and then it just starts to get to cool for them.. so Im starting them all early and will move them out to my green house when the temps are ok for them.
@@ruthannecoro6198 That's a great plan. I'll be starting my peppers & eggplants very soon as well for the same reason. Our growing season is just way too short.😊
6th year doing winter sowing. Found out my containers need to be in a less sunny spot. we can have very sunny too warm days in January; my seeds sprout and then I am covering and uncovering constantly and have had frost loss. This year I am first using clear hard plastic containers and then using milk jugs. I give seedlings away, but last two years have given flats to Good Samaritan to give away. No asking my friends if they want plants! Do you buy plastic six packs yearly? I put giveaway plants in a fold over sandwich bag.
That's wonderful that you have had such great success with the winter sowing method. It's so much fun! Fortunately, I do not have to buy plastic six packs each year. I reuse the ones that I initially purchased. I also get a bunch from friends, people that buy plants from me from my backyard plant nursery, and from a local garden center that has a pot recycling bin. I love your idea of using sandwich bags to put the plants in! 😊🌹
Oh wow! That's great to know. I'll have to check if we have the same type of setup. In the meanwhile, I've been saving all my milk jugs this Spring and Summer so that I'm ready to go this coming Winter. Also, many times local coffee shops will save milk jugs for you if you just ask them to. 😊🌸
Try asking a local restaurant or coffee shop. I called my local coffee shop today and they said they'll save a bunch for me to pick up tomorrow at 5 pm. Yippeeeee! 🤣🌷
Im really enjoying your videos! Im in 5b as well, in Southern Maine. I have some winter sowing done.. new for me this year! Plan on some more, but have to get some jugs! Have you tried in clear totes? Those blackberry lilies are gorgeous! Im off to find some seeds. I need sea holly too!
Thank you so much! ♥ I have never tried winter sowing in clear totes. I have heard mixed results with that method. I have tried winter sowing in large mixed lettuce containers and I had mixed results with those. I felt like they got too much moisture in them. I've had the best results with the milk jugs. I'm planning to ask my local coffee shop if they could save their milk jugs for me. You never know. 🤞🏼😊

Thank you! I look forward to doing a winter sowing reveal of each milk jug this Spring! 😊♥
I planted up all my peppers, eggplant and ground cherries today, along with some herbs and lavender for my new tea garden 😊
How lovely! Did you start them indoors under grow lights?

In my area the City has an area dedicated to recycling. I was able to get lots of milk jugs from there.

My problem is we don't drink that much milk and I never buy gallon size...I scrounged up a few from my sister in law but I need more containers!!!

We used distilled and spring water and regular drinking water bottles.
