Love this band and this song especially. I was in a band back in the early 80’s and we had the honour to support them at The Half Moon in Putney. I wish I could remember more about the night. 🧷🎸🧷🇬🇧
I had this great song on a compilation called "Streets" bak in the 70s, it also had Slaughter and The Dogs, The Doll, and The Lurkers...Wish I still had it. It should be re-released!
I emailed Beggars Banquet Records about a re-issue. They said the licensing was too much of a pain. I ripped my clean vinyl and cleaned up a bit. Amazing album
in an era of new wave some grabbed the headlines like sid vicious ! some made great music and were great live the drones were amazing and never got the credit they deserved
Gus Gangrene is a character in 'New Dawn Fades: A Play About Joy Division & Manchester'. NW tours starts this week in Chester. Then on to Macclesfield, Leeds, Bury, and Manchester!
i was at that gig at skunx in april 1982 and also have the bootleg of it , my mates from scarborough were 1 of the suport bands called the breed i dont supose you have that recording along with the other band that played called xpozez from huddersfield , i know there used to be recordings of these bands
I've loved this band and this song for years but had never seen footage of them at all. They look as great as I always imagined they would. Thanks for posting this terrific video. Hooray for The Drones! Hooray for all MancPunk!
A brilliant BAND that are back In some form or shape.Never played IRELAND though, maybe when all the corona virus shite is sorted and we've a whole new world.Manchester had great stuff like The Smirks,Nosebleeds, warsaw Pakt,Slaughter and The Dogs,,,
I lost with MJ a few years agao i used to go to his bar in rhodes greece but i thought that folded years ago..Does he still gig i really would like to get back in touch..I have the original demos of the first album and the demos done for picadilly radio in manchester..And a tape of me playing drums when they played in swindon..
Had to use audio from the single, as there are only 3 short video clips taken from a TV documentary. Would kill for that gig, or any other early Drones gig on CD or DVD, so if anybody out there has anything, please get intouch - the only one I have is Skunx '82.
i have traded punk bootlegs with lots of people and the only recordings i have seen by the drones are from when they reformed in the mid 90s i have never come across any early recordings , the ones i have seen are from japan in 1997
The Drones website is now up and running (thedrones dot co dot uk - sorry TH-cam won't allow me to post proper link). There is a 'Message Board' if anyone would like to leave a message in memory of M.J. and a contact at bottom of 'Home' page if anyone wishes to contribute.
Hello, thanks for posting. I now have a cleaned up version of the Skunx gig if you are interested? Sorry, I don't have anything at all by the other two bands you mention, but would love to hear them, so if you have anything at all please get back to me - I have plenty of stuff to trade (see my website).

Hi Gus, Mike passed away on 10th January. If you contact me through the Punk Domain website I will give you a link to the family announcement. Cheers, Paul.
+Carolina Simmons I know it's been 4 years since this post but if you're still checking notifications, please tell Gus that Chet from Atlanta says "hello". My band toured with the Drones almost 20 years ago. Great band, great guys.
I don't know what your game is, but if you have a promlem with me, then email me, and we'll sort it out. I have never ripped anyone off in my life, and do not intend to start now, so please get in touch. There's a 'Contact Us' button on the punkdomain website.
"Moshing" is a dumb ass term and as @Kev Hulse said, didn't exist in the 70's... If anything it would be pogoing but mostly we all just went nuts in all individual styles... No mandatory dance rules like now. Especially now that you can see whatever "moshing" is; in a Judas Priest video.

And all this simply 'cause Johnny Rotten said "We want MORE bands like us!"
bullshit
He didn't mean musically like The Pistols he meant the honesty . As you probably know he disliked most of these type of groups.

Not a bad riff but the singer sounds like Timmy Mallet
Love punk hate this. x
Saw them live in 1977, they were pretty rubbish. Slaughter and the Dogs were way better.
Dont talk shit drones wud leave the dogs
come on, get the mosh pit going, slam dancing is necessary
no such thing in the 70's
"Moshing" is a dumb ass term and as @Kev Hulse said, didn't exist in the 70's...

Mike IX Spot on. You didn't even need to look 'punk' to be a punk, either.
