It was a fantastic band until the album Torn (2008), after that in my humble opinion the band decayed losing some of the heavyness and progressive parts. There are too many ballads, they seem to have lost their will to power / prog / heavy METAL. A pity.
I cannot disagree more. I loved Torn. It was heavy, it was dark, full of emotion, and amazing riffs. The latest record certainly has no shortage of riffs, or progressive elements.

Torn is probably my favorite Evergrey album. You're missing out. Sure, their sound changed but not really that drastically.
