I dedicate this song to both my mom and John Lennon because they met each other on the elevator in 1979 at the Dakota apartment in New York City, she told me her story how she met John when she was visiting New York!!!! Rest In Heaven John and mom!!!! John Lennon 1940-1980 Deborah Connor 1954-2017
Elton and Bernie Taupin absolute geniuses!!! One of their absolute greatest hits. Others: “I guess that’s why they called it the blues”, Nikita, little Jeanie, sacrifice, candle in the wind,Daniel and the list goes on….,
Imagine 40 years to the day, I was 10 years old just before Christmas,a wife and 2 sons lost a father and world lost a star, but stars in time shine brighter and brighter, its 40 years and its still getting brighter,Dec8 I'LL never forget, its the first time I cried towards another person.
Not only was John Lennon one of Elton John's hero's, he also became a friend. It must be difficult for Elton to reminisce about all his friends who have died. He also rarely plays this song in concerts!
This timeless dedicating song to John Lennon by Elton John enraptures my entire mind in listening and being taken away on a deep musical, journey into my imationation of his telling story..wow! Listening is indeed a great pleasure. Thank you Elton John
I cannot listen to this song without completely breaking down and crying everytime I hear it I can only play it in private, for that reason, I can imagine how Elton John must feel when he has to sing it. The lyrics have a double meaning for me because I know it was written for John, but it also reminds me of someone very special who I lost, My son.
I cry with you everytime this song plays.. for John, for your son, and for my dear father. You're not alone, friend. -from a 42y.o guy living in Sydney City of Australia
Happy "70th" birthday John Lennon. I wish you knew how much you are missed and how many lives you touched. You are a true legend and your death has made you a martyr for your believes and ideas and you are now larger than life. My heart goes out to Yoko and Julian and fans everywhere on this day of celebration to one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever.
Im so obsessed with this song...I play it over and over singing at the top of my lungs...crying...thinking about my mom who passed away suddenly and way too young... so powerful...
I lost my best buddy my big brother Michael. He always carried a shovel and mattic and he worked digging dirt making beautiful gardens ponds and pools. I sing this song loudly i scream and belch it teaes pour down my face. It hurts it hurts so bad. Ive been knocking but noone answers and ive been calling hey hey MICHAEL cant you come out to play. Cant you come to play in your empty garden. ............................... Its funny how one insect can damage so much grain. ( filthy cancer killed my big bro ) Belching this song out really does help to release my pain.
I had an album which were songs that Taupin and John had done together and they were brilliant. Sacrifice, & one about a wedding but that too was fantastic.
@@MsKatkitty Sacrifice is on Sleeping With The Past - the best Car album of all. Kiss The Bride is on Too Low For Zero, the most atmospheric and original album. IMHO
At the time this came out, Elton had gotten away from piano based songs in his recordings. This was a return to his classic form, and what a great example.
It's his amazing talent we miss. Unless we knew him personally that is. RIP Mr. Lennon and my prayer has always been to see him high among the stars. Heaven has always had the best bands. ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful song! It's difficult to listen and *not* cry. I've known people who have died at an early age, this song would've been a wonderful tribute to them.
I wish I had been old enough to remember you John....you left this world when I was only 2 months old. Love you and thank you for your music and message
Melissa, just very refreshing for someone your age to appreciate not only John Lennon but Elton John's music! So frustrating when people your age only know of Elton John as the guy who sang at Princess Diana's funeral! So bless you and I hope you'll play this music for your kids and grandkids........keep these songs and their meanings in future generations ✌
Thanks for uploading this wonderful sad, powerful song with the great Lennon/ Beatles photos. I loved this song when first released but was surprised it got minimal airplay despite it being one legend's tribute to another. It's great to see many more people appreciating it now and that it reduces many others to tears as well. Thanks to others who pointed out there are also tribute songs to John from Paul, George and Neil Sedaka. I will go listen to them but will be surprised if any can surpass this masterpiece. Thanks Bernie & Elton and to the man who should have been 80 this week ❤
Beautiful song! I love Elton John and this is a great tribute to John Lennon. Many things have come to the surface about John Lennon; I think the film Nowhere Boy depicts the best picture of what happened in his life and what made him who he was. John was very talented maybe there were others more so, but never the less he was a tortured soul who didn’t make the best choices however he will always be a legend!
Beautiful comment, Amber, and I wholeheartedly agree. Nowhere Boy gave us a peek into the mind of a genius in the making and into the past that helped to shape him. This song is a brilliant tribute by yet another legend.
I grew up with this song, never knew it was about John Lennon, the dynamics of the lyrics are different now, and thats why I love music so much. Cheers!

This is a lovely tribute. Made me cry.
Sou apaixonada por Elton John!!! Maravilhoso artista.
This is an awesome song. I heard this on a channel they have playing all Elton John's music till Friday on XM radio. I wish this song would get more airplay on regular radio it's that great. My wife and I got to see Elton John in Green Bay and he put on a great concert.
this song brings tears to a 46 yr old man.......damn
These pictures are awesome....what great artist they are
