      Toyota has always been this way. Only during the 2000's, when they let American management have say, is when material quality was below par. About 8 years ago, they brought back Japanese management, and improved their U.S. assembly plants quality like they had in the past.

    Woah! Did Micah just say he’d buy the Corolla?
    I played with the XSE hatch also. Interior quality is strangely good. Like “what did we do to deserve this” good. I thought the Civic had a nice interior but the Corolla blows it away. The Mazda3 is equal in material quality but gives up a football field of standard features to the Corolla.
    You know... I’d take the Corolla too.

    • @disco.lemonade
      @disco.lemonade 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's a nice car from Toyota, finally. Although too cramped for my test, they have finally stepped their game when it comes to interiors. Now, saying it blows Civic's away, is much exaggerated, except for the infotainment system which by the way, the Corollas' looks almost identical to that on the Accords and Hyundais.

    • @Soh90
      @Soh90 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      john smith The Civic’s interior is very cheap by comparison. Center counsel wobbles, the rubberized top portion of the dash with fake stitching is no match for the leatherette and real stitching on the top and lower portion of the Corolla’s interior. The glove box is damped while the civic flops down, the seats are more comfortable compared to the slightly firm civic, and the Corolla comes with a much bigger standard infotainment screen.
      Some non interior related things... The Corolla has standard LED lighting, semi-autonomous driving, and is more efficient. The CVT is better and the manual is smarter (and keeps most of the semi-autonomous features). Then to top it all off, the Corolla is built on TNGA platform and drives damn good. Look at my profile picture, I’m a Honda guy, but the Corolla has this in the bag. The civic is bigger, but looking at the cars side by side, the civic cast a bigger footprint. I don’t think Toyota even attempted to make a spacious car. Kinda like the C-HR. Think ab it, the kind of person who NEEDS to carry 5 people in comfort is not buying a hatch. Most hatch owners are empty nesters or have one child. The need for enormous space is not as important as one would believe. The Corolla is a hit this year.

      I drove new 2018 Civic Sport 6MT and a new 2019 Corolla XSE 6MT. Civic handles better, but its interior is terrible. Drivers seat on the Civic is also leaning forward for some reason. New Corolla hatch is way more comfortable, plush, yet it handles great, almost as good as Civic. New Corolla lost a lot of its utility, sadly. Trunk is tiny, rear seats are cramped.

    I just bought the 2020 Hatchback XSE Corolla. It's the 10th car I own and I have owned luxury brands including Audi and Lexus, and also trucks and sports cars including Mustang and F-150, and 4Runner and Tacoma. It's my favorite car by far. It gets almost hybrid-level MPGs, and it's fun to drive. The Hatchback is made in japan so the quality is excellent (better than my camry and tacoma), and the tech and features are great for a car under $30k. My hatchback XSE is fully spec'd out and I have almost the same luxuries and tech as the Lexus ES 350 I used to have. The best thing is this will outlast every car out there! Very reliable. I highly recommend this car!

    I have 2017 Corolla iM hatchback 6MT. 2019 Corolla hatch is much sportier, faster, comfortable and more refined than outgoing 2018 Toyota iM. 6-speed is a blast to drive. Front seats are very plush and comfortable. However, utility took a huge hit. Rear legroom is really bad, roof slope is much lower for rear passengers. Optional JBL is not available with a manual and since 2-DIN stereo slot is not available, you cannot easily upgrade audio system. If utility and music quality are not important, it is a wonderful everyday commuter car, but I will pass at least until they make JBL available on XSE manual.

I have test driven GTI, Veloster Turbo, Mazda 3 GT, Focus ST and Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 and the manual transmission in this car was the best. It was smooth like butter and acceleration was pretty good. If you know how to drive a manual, I'd highly recommend going for the manual. After being a happy and only owner for 15-years of a Mazda Protege 5, I'm ready for my 2nd hatchback. This car was on the #1 spot of cars I was considering buying. Went to the dealer and fell in love with the outside and the cabin...then...I opened the trunk. After that, I told my wife..."we're NOT buying this car". My 15-year-old car offers twice as much space in the trunk than this. The trunk in this car is literally useless! The Honda Fit has a whole lot more space in the trunk and even after folding the rear sits than this vehicle. This made me so sad, but...I won't own a car where I can only fit "two gallons of milk" (yes, I'm exaggerating, but you get my drift!). > Also, the lay out of the speeds in the manual transmission makes more sense in a Honda Civic than in a Toyota Corolla Hatchback.

I was in the market to trade my 2012 VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI w/a DSG transmission and 80K miles on the clock. I quickly narrowed it down to a new VW GTI S model and the Toyota. I know they are different class of cars, the VW was around $5K more, but the fun factor of the Corolla with the 6 speed manual and way better mileage, plus the (hopefully) bullet proof nature of the Toyota won me over this time.

    Today in Paris a Corolla hatch with ample rear seat space, greatly improved storage capacity and sleeker design is being revealed. It is called the Corolla Touring Sports and it will also offer two hybrid drive trains for Prius mileage without Prius looks. Will Toyota have the brains to sell it here? Only time will tell.

    The new Corolla is a LOT of car for your money. Granted it is not that big (it is a Corolla) but now it looks good, drives well, has a nice interior & plenty of safety features + that Toyota reliability for years to come. I just wished for a tad more power (190~200hp) but overall an excellent package.

    Other reviews have also mentioned that certain features are only available on the CVT, but the manual version also has blind spot sensors, adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist.
    Admittedly, it is a bit weird to shift through the gears while the car speeds up or slows down for you.

      You are wrong, sir. The manual models do have adaptive cruise but it only works down to 15 mph, then you have to actually step in because, you know, you are the one in control of the clutch. I experienced it when I test drive the car...It's real haha

      Tell your people at Toyota to make JBL optional with a manual! They took away 2-DIN slot, so now people need to choose between good music or 6-speed? And then corporate would complain they don't sell enough car with stick shift.
