Sony believing that people making memes about Morbius meant that people actually liked Morbius will never fail to amuse me. Not only do they not understand how to make a good shared universe, they also don't understand meme culture.

Oh we’re a good 5-10yrs before big companies even BEGIN to “understand meme culture”. Today’s 20-30yo’s aren’t quite in the big seats/corner offices/powerful positions in these companies. But they are beginning to slip through the cracks and push through the lines on the sidewalks into positions long held by rich old white guys.

It seems like WhatCulture had the easy target of a SINGLE film (Morbius) bombing twice and tried to extend that concept to other films. Shoving re-makes and staggered world wide releases into the same idea doesn't make it even remotely the same. So is there any other film like Morbius that failed in initial release and then failed again upon a wide re-release in the same market? I think there was but my old brain can't come up with any...

    A couple of things...
The 2019 reboot of Hellboy was directed by NEIL Marshall, not Nick. He is a very good director of some quality films (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) and was the go-to guy for Game Of Thrones massive action episodes. He deserves better treatment.
Secondly, the Blade Runner sequel carried the date 2049 in its title, not 2042 as stated in the v/o.
Perhaps we should blame the writer...
    Oh.

  • @MikeEPerez

"Two different versions of the same film couldn't stop the inevitable..." (10:27) Agreed. Ridley Scott's initial cut of Legend (which was already trimmed down by about half an hour) didn't fare well with US test audiences, so he edited it even further, rescored, and released it in US theaters the year after it debuted in the UK. Both versions were critically panned (even though I LOVED the US version when I was a kid). And the film ended up making less than its budget.
In 2002, the director's cut was released on DVD, and it was... not good. Way more of a narrative mess than the US theatrical cut with an overblown, pretentious score by Jerry Goldsmith (IMO). So I'd say it more than qualifies for this list.

It isn't fair to the original Blade Runner to compare it to Blade Runner: 2049. Yes, they were both good movies. The first movie had what made it an Icon including the ?Villians? fight to stay alive to the Tears In the Rain speech. The second movie was without anything that could be told to be ground breaking nor was it truely worth its run time to mostly see Ryan Gosling mope for how many hours? You guys heard, A more faithful adaptation of Old Man Logan coming down the pike, played by...Drum role plz, The T1000 himself Robert Patrick. Out of left field but inspired casting, I've seen him play gritty, Semi psychotic and looking beaten half to sh*t, only to triumph roles, Not talking about T2, I think inspired casting, what you all think? I like it!! Holler back at me about the casting choice, I see him nailing it, especially at this stage of his career.

You’re talking of Wastelanders: Wolverine? The series isn’t what you think it is.

The book that the Blade Runner movies are based upon (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) is 1000% better.

Ah yes a "movie" channel that doesn't know how movie boxoffice money work. If movie costs 50 mil., for it to make some money boxoffice should be around 150 mil., because cinemas take half the money from tickets and promo costs are not included in production budget.

I’m not sure you guys are right about a lot of these films making back their budget at the theatrical level. I follow box office discussions religiously and most say for a film to turn a profit, it needs to make about 3 times it’s production cost. This being that ticket sales are split between the theaters showing the film and the studios themselves as well as the costs of marketing.

I understood the actual POINT of the video, like with Hellboy, Mulan, Judge Dredd, and of course Blade Runner I just didn't agree quality wise but I can't disagree the with the idea here cause this video is about money not CRITICAL acclaim or quality.

How do you be a cult classic and bomb simultaneously? clearly they worked out. Never trust opening box office to determine the longevity of success. Suggesting the original the Thing as a bomb is a shame.
