- Legit OPNA cover of Keiki Haniyasushin's theme from Wily Beast and Weakest Creature.
Let's start this off by saying I didn't really wanted to cover this theme when I first heard it. While i thought it was really catchy I didn't pay much attention to it, instead focusing on the Stage 5 and Extra Boss themes, which are still on my top 3 of the OST, along with the Stage 1 theme. Idolatrize world is definitely a close fourth tho, otherwise I wouldn't be making this lol.
But about 2 weeks after the game's launch I made the intro of this, mixing it up with elements from Complete Darkness, because... both characters are from hell and their themes' intros have the same chord progression. But I ended up leaving it aside and making a SiivaGunner rip of Complete Darkness instead.
But a few days ago I managed to beat Touhou 17, and I got the inspiration boost to do it, because well... final bosses themes sound much better when you have the tension of facing and beating them! (remember me saying I'd cover Junko's theme? It'll still not happen because of this lmao) So I pulled out an all-nighter to finish this.
Phew, that was a long description. This arrange and video involved more people than just me, so let me thank everyone here:
- ShinkoNet for making the MIDI I used to consult some of the fast notes and other things I couldn't get by year
- Pigu/pigdevil2010, for the (currently) abandoned fm arrange that inspired some of the decisions I made for this cover (notably the pause between the intro and the first verse)

Well, spoiler alert, by the time the human heroines arrived on crime scene, the city the heroines' spirits were talking about is already destroyed.
@@7636kei I never got the impression that Keiki's city was destroyed. The backgrounds during the battle go from the inner sanctum to within the city, then at the end of the battle, the city is far away on the horizon. It gives me the impression that our human/spirit duo is being chased away by Keiki during the battle. The animal spirit does tell us to retreat once we meet her, after all.
@@PDubbler Unlike MS and Makai, if this one's destroyed by _any_ definition, it's definitely not Keiki's. Probably not the human protags, even, since it's probably their first time getting into the Primate Garden. It's from the perspective of the _spirit possessing the heroines_ that the PG got rekt.
Actually keiki didnt "destroy" the city. Keiki "turned" the city from a beautiful paradise to a techno modern world city

I've always been weak for PC98 remixes and this remix is everything I have ever wanted a PC98 version of this theme to sound like.
This theme reminds me of Byakuren's. I wasn't really impressed at first but it grew on me like a colourful fungus with a cute hat. And I'm ALWAYS a sucker for some good OPNA, so... yeah, you're great.

Yeah! Keiki's theme is rocking it as always! I always loved its haunting character! I think after all these years, Touhou's new soundtracks are regaining their haunting quality from the PC-98 days!

You actually made this sound better than the original. Thank you for giving this some actual drums and getting rid of all the excessive grace notes.
I think the grace notes are fine on the original, but I took them out because they definitely doesn't work well on the pc98 context

@@pedipanol Elementic is just awful, especially for someone like me who likes drums that have actual presence. And I also don't like how ZUN has been going ham with his grace notes in this game's soundtrack, but that's probably just me.
That one is pretty upbeat, I like it a lot :)
Hmm, a lot of ZUN's newer music works extremely well in the PC-98 style, well enough that I dare to say that he is maybe kind of going back to that time musically but with a totally different sound of course.

Very catchy interpretation you did there. Had we not shared a common Discord server, that PC-98 “fakeshot” in particular would have not been possible. (Yes, _fakeshot_ is the official term used for screenshot mockups on DeviantArt’s Art-Of-Spriting group, but we ensured to make that fakeshot look legit and hardware-correct as if it were a real screenshot.)

Notepad (or similar plain text editor) together with a DOS emulator (IBM PC-spec or NEC PC-98-spec) and KAJA’s PMD98 compiler MC.EXE.
