- On this kayak catfishing trip, I hit the Tennessee River to do some ledge fishing. I was using chunks of cut bait suspended in a deep hole. It was a great morning of fishing with some big blue and flathead catfish being caught.

That was a beautiful Flathead. The colors and markings were amazing. Flathead's are without a doubt at the very top of the catfish world. From the clothes they wear to the way they bite from the places they live to the way they fight. There's not a cat fisherman living that don't rejoice in winning the battle with a big Flathead.

I would much rather catch a small channel cat as a big blue. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm perfectly sane. You see the waters I fish are blueless, so if I catch a big blue, it's in my dreams and I'd much rather catch real fish, whatever they are.😉
