QUESTION - I just bought a one step looper tool. I noticed upon closer inspection, you have modified yours by removing the “hook” that cuts off the end of the wire? Is this correct? If so, how did you remove it? Hacksaw and sandpaper? Just curious.
Great video...please keep the wonderful content coming!

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Yes, I did modify it by using a Dremel with a cut off tool.

The link for the looper plires doesn't show how to buy these plires. Do you know where else these plires can be bought?

try 0.8 mm hard stainless steel it's a lot easier to bend than 1 mm sorry for the metric sizes I can't remember the A.M.G. size off the top of my head hope this is helpful to you. kind regards Steve

Have you tried 18 gauge (0.40 in) stainless steel wire with this tool. I want to make single strand intruder shanks. The bead smith tool company does not recommend stainless steel wire. They say on a on the comments section of their youtube product video, that stainless steel wire could break the shaping pin. Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Truthfully I am not sure. .40 would be way to thick I am assuming you meant .040 which I think is getting a little to thick. I think the .030 is stretching it.

Did you modify the looping tool?
It looks like you trimmed off part of the tool. I ask, because I bought the one step looping tool and it has a curved part, where yours appears to be trimmed off (shiny square area). Looks like you may need to modify my tool, to get it to work correctly to make shanks and articulated bodied for flies.

There are different color-handled wire loopers for making different sized loops. What is the best size loop for bass flies or salt water flies on size 4 to 2/0 hooks?
