talk about the many misconceptions of katekyo hitman reborn and why they are untrue. Reborn is a battle shonen that rose in the era of the big 3. "Katekyo Hitman Reborn!" follows Tsunayoshi Sawada, a reluctant teenager who discovers he is the heir to the Vongola Mafia family. Under the tutelage of Reborn, a hitman baby from the Arcobaleno, Tsuna trains and builds strong connections with friends who have unique abilities. The series blends action and comedy with themes of friendship, chronicling Tsuna's journey from an average teen to a competent mafia boss, as he faces challenges from rival families.

Question Of The Day: What are the Biggest Misconceptions Of Reborn?
• The fact that people believe that it's a mid/garbage series when it's clearly not (the number of sales and popularity speaks for itself)
• Saying that Tsuna is a horrible MC when he clearly isn't, it's the readers that finds him annoying (aka skill issue)
• The fact that people really believe the manga fell off after the Future Arc (when none of them did proper research)
• The fact that it doesn't follow traditional mafia which means it's a bad series (They... never really read a lot of shonen manga, do they?)
Probably the fact that people can not believe that it is gag AND a Shonen Anime/manga
There are some series that have humor, yeah, of course, but the longer the series goes on, the more it stops and progresses the story
Katekyoshi Hitman Reborn doesn't do that. It keeps his Gag stuff while maintaining the seriousness of the story
If people hate the ending, it's probably tsuna has not reached the end goal, and that is Vongola Decimo
People forget Tsunayoshi Sawada is still 14 or 15 years old
And we already saw how smart, mentally capable and collected he is in the Future Arc.
He still isn't old enough to make those decisions YET
Only thing I'm sad about that we haven't seen the Adult Versions after the ending or maybe the future arc

I love Tsuna, he’s out timid and vulnerable protagonist with a big heart that people around him never gave him a chance to present
Yeah he stands for alot. I like that he always stood on his principles and never let anyone change him
KHR truly has the potential to be a perfect shounen. I don't question their popularity, but the west plays a big part too. There's misconceptions about almost every shounen yet, for some reason, KHR gets a slap in the face. "It looks silly and goofy".. Man, look at One Piece. "Too slow paced and the battles explain themselves often".. Are we ignoring DB/Z and Naruto? This series needs a rerelease. I'll guarantee that it'll be a breath of fresh air compared to today's shounen.
It's probably a repetitive thing to say but it does bring truth to it and that it's a skill issue situation
It's not really KHR to blame for this, it's actually a common thing when you consider that the west and Japan don't always necessarily share similar taste which is why certain series tend to be more popular on one side than other (besides actual big series)
Personally, I think Reborn already came in a good time in the 2000s era but with how mainstream anime is today, I believe in the possibility for it to become bigger if it's re-released again 🙏
I think it's not the "silly and goofy part"
KHR isn't now popular because people don't have the hope to bite through the series to the good part

Future Arc sweet too and it has to build up to that and people don't have the same patience anymore
I recently read the Manga and had a blast, I love everything about the series (it would have been nice to see Future Vongola Boss and Guardians in action)
Because of censorship Saint Seiya came late to the English audience when it could have rivaled Dbz back in the day, lucky the Spanish community got the a dub way before America did.
Yeah every series has some slander associated with it: its just khr didnt get the hype the others did

I feel like with the last two arcs, Akira Amano already had in mind all these great moments/situations/interactions she wanted to create (like the one you mentioned where Tsuna gathers up everyone he ever met practically or where he shows reborn his resolution with his flames) , but it looked like she had little time left, cause it definitely felt rushed. After the future arc, the training for each characters skills was completely thrown outside the window, like, previously, tsuna and the others needed TIME to adjust to new powers, by the time we get to the Simon saga it's literally "THIS happened!", now they go and there an "BAM" another big moment, and shortly afterwards that "BAM AGAIN" now they're fighting different people, and then BAM, characters come and meet, literally everyone is here and BAM ONCE AGAIN, a couple of battle pages with each page containing a (random?) "swing" of each characters abilities. (I say random cause up until the Simon arc, the main fights (sure there's a random couple ones, but these serve to demonstrate characters new growth) were very thought out. But I give Akira Amano credits for wrapping it up pretty decent, I never had a problem like some other people have where tsuna "goes back" to the way he is after a saga/battle is finiahed, that's literally his personality. And you're right, on the curse of the rainbow arc, Tsuna looks by far the most mature he's ever been.

KHR was the first anime I didn't see on television as well as first sub anime.
KHR and Fairy Tail are those series that have their misconceptions but are ones I hold dear because its easier to hate than to understand.

@@CADomain so far I haven’t. I was reading the manga a while back and stopped right after the finale anime episode. The only thing I know about is that there is a character named “Enma”. I think the fact Reborn wasn’t as huge as like the Big 3 back in the day made it easier to avoid spoilers. That I’d only really end up spoiled if I actively looked them up.

12:03 I rewatched reborn several times because I loved the show, and I was sad I couldn't see the rest because I didn't like reading manga, but then I finally decided to satisfy my craving for more and read reborn my first manga ever from start to finish so its wild to me how anyone can say that it fell off after the future arc especially when the last 2 arcs are in my opinion the best arcs in the show

I still can't help but be pissed at the fact that Tsuna kept rejecting his position as Decimo, but the main reason is that everything - literally everything - in the story keeps telling us how fit he is to be the Boss and to lead the Vongola to a better future.
Let's ignore for a moment all the obvious signs and only take the issues in wich the author or the characters literally state that he is the right successor
His guardians obviously want him, yes even Mukuro
His father and Reborn keep telling him that he's best suited for the role
Timoteo vouched for him on his dying breath (not really his dying breath)
The previous bosses accept him despite him literally declaring that he will destroy the family
All of his enemies eventually either accept or respect him as an equal or a leader, yes, even Xanxus
We see 130+ episodes of Future Arc in wich everyone keeps telling us how considerate, gentle, peace driven and selfless Tsuna is while also being strong and respectable enough to lead the family; we fucking see him BE as cool as everyone says he is.
I would've been ok if the series kept it more open ended, but for the last (or one of the last, it's been a while) lines Tsuna speaks in the series to be "I dont want it" like he's having visions of Jon Snow it just breaks all the promises that the series has built up. I get it, it was never the ultimate goal of the series, but to end the manga like that is to make Tsuna sound like an ungrateful little brat with zero confidence and even less foresight (and we can go as far as to say that he straight up rejected his responsablity and the hopes of many, thus allowing the broader Vongola Family to keep being as violent and power hungry as it is).
It's like if Nami from One Piece was still spouting about how she hates Pirates because Arlong, it makes some sense but it undercuts so much it's not even funny.

does anybody remember an old forum called katekyo hitman Reboard. there was lots of really interesting write ups on the characters and how all of them benefit from going from these more rubberband style characters that always snap back to status quo after each chapter/episode to ones where there are actual stakes for the events happening, but still retaining that core "gag/comedy" character personality.
what year was this? i was reading it back in the day with the final arc but i wasnt locked in with forums back then. wym write ups on the chartacters? it sounds interesting
Essentially what you would expect to see in a like deep dive character analysis video for something more recent. pages of stuff about the themes and motivations, character development etc. I'm not doing it justice.. as far as when I'd say from around 2010-12 before it eventually went down. I remember there was also talk about a canceled manga arc that would have focused on checkerface more and the setting would have involved a tower or something. I wish Id have had the big brain to archive it or something. The guy that that posted all the different essays went by Harlan Wade I think. I feel like a fossil talking about this lol
I remember my first exposure to the manga was a bad meme about the Kyoko and Haru kitchen scene so I assumed that the show was just crazy sexist. Imagine my surprise when I found out that they were acting in a very reasonable manner considering their circumstances 💀

i would say the show is not about doing the right thing if not more place friends and family above all. Fight to to maintain those connections and moments. I dont ever remember this show going into the morality of anything other than the value of family.

i dont think a difference in opinion is a misconception. Thinking the point of reborn was to make tsuna a mob boss is a misconception, but thinking tsuna was a mid protag is just a disagreement ya know.
That said though, most peoples problems with tsuna are that they cant stand timid protagonists unless they turn into sigma gigachads who were actually the strongest and smartest guy who gets everything done perfectly or whatever the fuck. Not something i personally care for but just something i noticed now that more peaceful protagonists are a bit more popular.
MY problem with tsuna is that he was the perfect protagonist for the slice of life arc but not so much for the part of the show where its all fights to the death.
Like the dying will stuff was a vaery on the nose metaphor for confidence and determination from my memory. Turning it into a shonen battle mechanic means that he had to master it so instead of him getting his development through interpersonal relationships he basically had to get it through training montages. Hes a guy who's flaw was being mentally weak, but was thrown into a situation where on the surface his flaw was being physically weak.
All that said i think its impressive that the author managed to craft the story in such a way where no one had to fundamentally change who they were as a character in the transition for them to still function in the story. Haru and Kyoko were probably the biggest casualties though. The author had a rough time figuring out where to slot them both in
i understand that. yeah the shonen battle shift the author was able to pull off is honestly crazy. i think that the characters like haru and kyoko did suffer but it may have been for the greater good

Im gonna be honest, as a previous fan of this series, a lot of the things classified as “misconceptions” in this video aren’t really that. In hindsight it is a mid MC and had a ton of flaws etc. Some of these points were very valid, y’all may not like them but hey, it is what it is. There are way worse anime’s and manga for sure, no one’s calling it garbage, but it is mid in a lot of ways. but yall equate mid with bad. When it literally just means average. Not that it’s bad, it doesn’t age well, it is repetitive. The ending…. Like cmon man lol it’s a fine work. But I get it if this is your favorite, but for example to a bunch of one piece enjoyers, this anime/manga is mid as hell. Even a full metal enjoyer, or champloo etc.

Let me explain in my point of view and I hope you don't mind. The Misconceptions seen here are obviously made up by people who only finished the series once and never bothered to either do proper research on its background or visiting the series again for the sake of taking an honest look without the need to bash it, which is why these ARE misconceptions because it gets to the point that the true knowledge of the series is buried and all the bad takes here are often seen as universally true or valid (which they aren't if you have people like us disagreeing).
Reborn has flaws like many other manga, no doubt about it, but majority of the specific problems that people find are usually subjective (like MC, Daily Life, The Ending etc) These aren't flaws, people just don't like it, it's a difference in taste or they just don't get the appeal.
I will not agree that the series hasn't aged well also because speaking by personal experience, I've spoken to people who are new to anime/manga who actually like Reborn despite how old it is. People can like or dislike a series regardless of their taste in anime or manga such as One Piece, Bleach, Black Clover, Champloo, FMA etc.
I think it’s not that the misconceptions aren’t valid, it’s that sometimes people kind of run with some of the takes and I’ll give it a chance. Like there’s no way if you watch freeborn, you will think that it fell off after the future arc

It aging well is subjective. like this entire topic is subjective obviously, but again, if this is your favorite, i understand if you cant step back and look at the larger scope of animes and mangas and not conclude this one is mid (which again people take as an insult but it is not).
large amounts of folks who even finished this series don't return to it. Most of us out grew it, the more you take in the more its like "meh". you say "mc, daily life, the ending" for most of us translates to character development, and pacing which aren't subjective.
those things are genuinely bad in reborn, you cant just dismiss it as a misconception because new to anime folks like it. MOST reborn fans were newer anime folks when it was releasing, and as time and exposure to other works increase, this work slides down into the mid tier and thats fine. I thought shaman king was good when i was younger, now i would say that series is just as mid as reborn. because my tastes have developed with exposure to the medium. its fine to like it, but if a MAJORITY of folks feel that way about reborn, you cant just dismiss it as a misconception. if i tell you the food you cooked if bland, its not a misconception. you just dont agree, but unfortunately i will never have another plate of reborn again. im good, we past that.

You already said it, the anime is there to promote the manga. Yes, but one thing you need to know that the anime would survive for much longer and we could even see Inheritance Ceremony/Aldehyde arc being adapted if the manga it was promoting is not in the cancelation zone. It is not about sales per se but reception (read: votes) the manga gets from Jump readers at that time. By the end of Future arc, the ranking was tanking hard. The studio producing the anime has the least impact on this issue. The one responsible for the anime is the producers (eg: TV broadcasters, Sony, Kadokawa, Netflix, Amazon, etc) who then gathered a bunch of people in selected anime studios to act as production committee. Tldr, any anime studio is just a hired contractor to do the job, the producers could pick any studio they wanted depending on any given circumstances.
Yeah thats true. I actually made a vid about why reborn wasn’t more popular. It lasted only during the big 3 era and had ti fight with so many other series. I mean it doesn’t even have a dub. But your right, it had such a up hill battle

Romance isn't always essential to a story and Hitman Reborn is not a romance manga. There are hints of romance with certain characters but that doesn't mean they're the main focus nor do they have their own arc aside from flashbacks or vague hints.

Yessir!! Anime has amazing fights but overall the manga harder
