I'm awaiting delivery of some fluid as my 3009 arm drops quickly - the service (not user/setup) manual is available on vintage radio forum - topic is SME 3009/S2 Series II Improved Refurbishment. That manual says to use 1,000,000 c/s viscosity silicone fluid - I ordered some from Jadlam Toys & Models (£5.95 - SKU: C-81620)
I managed to refill the dashpot last night - took awhile and had to remove that section from the tonearm then tap with a light hammer and screwdriver after warming the glue holding it in place. I cleaned the whole thing out (not much fluid left in there) then making sure the piston is lowered - squeezed some of the 1mil fluid in (that stuff is thick), replaced the 2 red screws and cleaned up excess fluid out of the bleed screw, put in the bleed screw and then operated the cue arm a few times. Orignally, I tried the arm without the bleed screw in which didn't work so well, better to keep as much fluid in there as possible. My arm drops nice and slowly now. Tricky job, but worth it.
I love my turntable but it does take a lot of setting up , nice video 😁👍
