this was a great cartoon , it was just like the movie version of OZ, they made the cartoon so well, even the voices too! Just perfect! I remember this when I was little, I always loved it.
I think, regardless of whether Oz was a dream or not (which, even in the MGM film, I believe could more or less be left up to interpretation) we should really just look at this for what it is, in and of itself. They took the movie and turned it into a Saturday Morning Cartoon. And personally, this was a huge part of MY childhood, so I'm happy to see it here on TH-cam. :]
I can't believe this is on TH-cam!! U remember my mom used to wake me up on I think it was Saturday morning when it was on. Then I missed the last episode n was so upset!! (I was very young when this was on tv). I'm excited to see that it's here. :)
Awe, That's So Sweet Of That Lil Munchkin Girl Giving Dorothy A Boquate Of Flowers. I'm Having a Nostalgia Size Headache, This sure brings back memories. This Has Got To Come Out On DVD, I Have Two Niece's, and They're going to be 10-months-old This coming march 30th, and when they get older, I hope that they'll Love This Cartoon Show, Like I Have Before Them.
Wow, I Remember watching this when this was on CBS, this and, WildFire, CBS Storybreak, Dungeons and Dragons were one of my favorite cartoon shows. I wish that This and Other Old Cartoons were Still On Today, At Least These Old Cartoon Shows Like This One Was Way More Awesome To Watch Then, Mickey Mouse and Spoongebob.
The way I see it, the events of the movie weren't a dream, the slippers magic just made everyone THINK it was a dream! In the words of M. Night Shamalamadingdong: WHAT A TWEEST!
'Journey Back to Oz' is the official sequel to the 1939 film, not this series, because in that movie Dorothy's head gets injured again and she once again dreams that she is in Oz.
@LovettSweeney This was NOT an official sequel to the 1939 film. It was an UNOFFICIAL sequel. The only official sequel to the 1939 film is the 1974 animated film, "Journey Back to Oz" where Dororthy has another head injury and once agin dreams that she is back in Oz.
I know that it was not a dream in the books. I've read them. It's just that the creators of this show took some liberties by making Oz a real place while mostly basing it off the 1939 film.
@snakes3425 What re you talking about? Baum wrote 13 direct sequels to his original novel, and had a few short stories which he admitted were not meant to be taken in the original continuity, but were just fun little snippets he came up with for the characters; in other words, little stories where he saw what would happen when he put his characters in varying situations. But you are correct on the other number: there have been dozens of OZ books not penned by the one best meant to write them.
Natureheroes22: Since they are from the MGM film canon, longevity is for them. Ditto for spin-offs, as "Wicked" (as a novel by MacGuire and a musical by Schwartz)--and its sequels--can attribute itself to the MGM film for inspiration, just as the film took liberties with Baum's literary classic.
Thank you! I love this program! Really, I search for it years! It's amazing! And I have a cuestion: you have the chapters in spanish? If you do, I would greatly appreciate it passes me! Thank you!!
It's interesting how the Monkeys do a crazy science of getting the witch back to life. With WICKED, Elphaba pretended to melt and kept her relationship with the Scarecrow (FIYERO) a secret!
@ snakes3425... you'll have excuse me for this. I am a wizard of Oz encyclopedia. L. Frank Baum only wrote 14 books in "The Wizard of Oz" series. He died in 1914 just before the last book was published. The other 40 books that were written were from fans of the tale itself. Everything else you stated however, was and is correct.
In the original book, Oz was NO dream. The movie people made that up, using the idea from an older play version of the story, thinking people of 1939 wouldn't go for a story that claimed fairytales lands were real.
WHAT IS THIS?! THIS SERIES TAKES TOO MUCH FROM THE 1939! Either they made it, or they somehow got the rights. Well, at least Dorothy sounds almost like Judy Garland.
lol! i remeber in kindergarden we did a play on it it was so cute lol i was dorthyand my friend shawna was the witch lol (poor shawna) and my other friend daniel he was the tin man and a dude named walter was the scare crow lol haha lol...good times..good times
This was part of the Saturday Morning Cartoon line up of the early 90's along with the Roseanne Barr cartoon "ROSIE" and the New Kids On the Block cartoon series.
@LovettSweeney Technically if you want to a "sequal" to the 1939 movie it's Disney's Return to Oz, although that was baised more on the second and third books Marvalus Land of OZ and Ozma of OZ
Hello again, fellas! ;) How've you been? :P @Alejandro Cruz Unfortunately, NO, I don't have them in Spanish... But that doesn't mean that there aren't any! :) Anyway, I'm more than grateful to have found them in English - which was my intention from the start -, so... I don't know anything from there on. Good luck! :)
@LovettSweeney Baum wrote 19 sequals to the orginal book and other authors wrote about 30 more sequals, and in the book the events weren't a dream, and yes the Wizard was still a two bit con-artist who used cheap parller tricks to pass himself off as a real wizard in the novel
Well it works, I mean the Lion, the tin man and the scarecrow were metaphors for politicians that are cowards, heartless and brainless. What's one more conman? One that's kinda smart.
Why do they have to find the Wizard and why was he brought back as a plot point? He. Left. Shouldn't defeating the witch be numero uno on the list of things to do.
I'm really disappointed with this first episode. Yeah they show how Dorothy gets back to Oz, but they don't show how she finds her friends again and how they react to seeing her again for the first time or her first reaction to being back in Oz! It pisses me off that they would leave out stuff like that, especially in the first episode!
WHAT IS THIS?! THIS SERIES TAKES TOO MUCH FROM THE 1939! Either they made it, or they somehow got the rights. And furthermore, WHERE'S THE LOLLIPOP GUILD?!
Hello again, dudes! :P Listen, I've been OFF for some time now, I know, but trust me, my life hasn't been going so well, lately... Anyway, to keep the long story short, I DO know that this particular & wonderful TV show is on... MySpleen.Com :-) BUT you need an invite there, and you can get that either from one of the mIRC's DejaToons' channels / rooms, or from some other, relate forum. In any case, you need to promise them that you'll upload similar, RARE, tv shows. By .torrent, of course.:-)
While yes, the musical was a giant sh!t pile dumped on the books series and this series is based on the musical, one of the key differences is that this cartoon has Oz being a real place. I had your reaction at first. Skipping through the series, yeah it's crap, but at least it's not a head trauma induced delirium.
It's amazing how accurate they are to the 1939 movie. or as accurate as they can get.
I miss this show!
this was a great cartoon , it was just like the movie version of OZ, they made the cartoon so well, even the voices too! Just perfect! I remember this when I was little, I always loved it.
The witch was one of my favorite characters in this cartoon!

I hope one day they'll make more episodes
They always sound like they're out of breath in this cartoon xD
Thank you for uploading this!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh wow this used to be shown on Saturday Mornings when I was in kindergarten. This, the New Kids On the Block cartoon and the Roseanne cartoon too.

Uh, you guys know if you get it done with your singing and proclaiming, you can still catch up with the Wizard?
Snakes3425 Baum actually wrote only 14 oz books.
i miss this show =(
Thank you! I love this program! Really, I search for it years! It's amazing! And I have a cuestion: you have the chapters in spanish? If you do, I would greatly appreciate it passes me! Thank you!!
Love this show :)
The voice actors are really doing a nice job imitating the actors from the 1939 movie.
I remember this show!!! I love it!!
It's interesting how the Monkeys do a crazy science of getting the witch back to life. With WICKED, Elphaba pretended to melt and kept her relationship with the Scarecrow (FIYERO) a secret!

And of course the witch is Wicked is named Elphaba.
As a Wicked fan, I am TEAM ELPHIE!!
Various episodes are released on older DVDs. The complete series has yet to be released though. Hope that changes one day!

So sweet! :)
This was part of the Saturday Morning Cartoon line up of the early 90's along with the Roseanne Barr cartoon "ROSIE" and the New Kids On the Block cartoon series.
Just like Wicked would do in 1995 (book) and musical (2003), except rewriting the story to fit the point of view of The Wicked Witch of the West.
BertRacoon82 Please tell me how do I buy this first couple episodes of this show. Thanks
@amaxamon YES! Finally someone who knows! xD I love the later books.
@LovettSweeney
Technically if you want to a "sequal" to the 1939 movie it's Disney's Return to Oz, although that was baised more on the second and third books Marvalus Land of OZ and Ozma of OZ
okay been to Oz before or not if I found a pair of magical glowing shoes in my closet. they would be out in the trash.
Hello again, fellas! ;) How've you been? :P
@Alejandro Cruz Unfortunately, NO, I don't have them in Spanish... But that doesn't mean that there aren't any! :) Anyway, I'm more than grateful to have found them in English - which was my intention from the start -, so... I don't know anything from there on. Good luck! :)

Thank you
why is wicked witch in stones?
Actually he only road 14 sequels, but I guess its hard to keep track cause he did wright so many.
This is way better then that return to oz crap!
Did this show ever feature the other villains (Mombi, Nome King, General Jinjur) or was it only the Wicked Witch?
i
Do you happen to have the 1987 Wizard of Oz cartoon?
I like it
OMG I remember that too!
Well it works, I mean the Lion, the tin man and the scarecrow were metaphors for politicians that are cowards, heartless and brainless. What's one more conman? One that's kinda smart.
Awesome
It's so stupid it only lasted 13 episodes all versions should be like this.
When was this ever a Cartoon
@amaxamon well I doubt it would have been otherwise Wicked wouldn't have happened. Have you seen it?
im doing a play about these thats why im practincing
Why do they have to find the Wizard and why was he brought back as a plot point? He. Left. Shouldn't defeating the witch be numero uno on the list of things to do.
what channel is this on

I thought "The Wizard Of Oz" was a dream. So there's a sequel to the dream? And did everyone know that the wizard was actually was not a wizard?
cool
COOL
Any notice Dorothy looks a fair bit older now?
Glinda: B.J. Ward
WHAT IS THIS?! THIS SERIES TAKES TOO MUCH FROM THE 1939! Either they made it, or they somehow got the rights. And furthermore, WHERE'S THE LOLLIPOP GUILD?!
