Khao tan is not really a snack for good luck. To put it more accurately, it is one of the local desserts which Thai people usually give to Buddhist monks as food offering in many traditional ceremonies in the Northern part of Thailand, such as the Northern Thai New Year and other annual temple ceremonies. Thai people believe that by practicing this food offering to monks, they will receive the blessing and good fortune.
