Definitely shoot for valley galleria in the electronics store, or national radio tower. Until you get an extractor it's a pain but tag copper and you can find most electronics inside most large buildings.
Vault-Tec University has 2 weight rooms with tons of dumbbells/barbells. First one is through main entrance, make 1st right and its on the left at the end of the hall. The 2nd is down the hall on the left from the main entrance, and through the vault simulator door. Then when you get to the main landing its downstairs in a corner. :)
You can also grab every empty can some have lead in them. Also aluminum can. You always need aluminum.

All three missile silos have weight rooms right at the entrance. Grab the weights and leave.
