@@ChristopherCarReviews no problem, I like when people are coming from a perspective of a average buyer when they review cars. It's rare now a days imma sub too
I replaced my fully electric car with a Prius Prime, I am loving it so far. I've never had a problem with charging cars, this is my third car that plugs in and I find it more convenient than stopping for gas. My daily driving is covered by the EV range so I rarely use the engine, a tank of gas can last me thousands of miles. Buying a regular hybrid would only make sense if someone drives significantly farther than the electric range daily or if they don't have access to charging, otherwise the average person would benefit greatly from plugging in even with the short range of the Prius Prime. Great review otherwise

Sporty car? I was looking for fuel efficiency. That's it's design. I have no issue with the screen as you do. You mentioned that you don't like plugging it in. There's no issue or time wasted plugging the car in. Then why would you buy a prime? You should have just bought a regular Prius. I love my Prius Prime. So far I'm still learning the best ways to get the best mileage from the car for long drives.
Thanks very much. I just received my Prius prime 2022, which is essentiall the same as the 2021. I bought the base model as reccomended by you. I am really happy with my purchase.
Down to 22 - 25 km here in Winnipeg at -30 to -40 deg/Cel. Otherwise I really enjoy my 2019 PRME. Electricity is 0.08 per kw/hr. So it is real savings driving into the city for work. Summer range is 40-47 kms, so it makes up a little for the loss in winter.
As a Prime owner , I have to agree with the screen. It’s absolutely terrible . If I would sell my car , I would be for that reason alone. I should have got the base model. I enjoyed your drive through Lachine :)
Great video. You sum up the cars strengths and weaknesses perfectly. Resale values are poor in the uk compared to normal hybrid. Depending g on your point of vue the phv is either the best or worst of both worlds. My average mpg is 120 in uk gallons with all lot of charging so I've saved a lot of money on fuel and electricity is 5p per kilowatt at night but Iit will take a lot of miles to pay for the battery
Thanks for your review. You just made it more difficult for me though. My heart was set on a 2021 prius prime and now I might take a look at other Toyota models!!
Thanks for your video review. I posted on both Facebook Prius Prime Groups. My 2017 PP Advanced has been wonderful and yes, while I'm not a fan of the 11.6" infotainment, I love having other added Advanced/Linited trim features. Especially the Heads Up Display.
I must be one of the few that loves the big screen. Yeah, at first it was a learning curve, but I like it now and have driven both models with and without. I don't have any issue finding things while driving and I much prefer the large screen over the smaller base model.
Merci pour les très bons commentaires. C'est un véhicule qui se conduit autrement, en utilisant intelligemment l'inertie et la planification des distances. Il exige une discipline et attitude consciente. Cher mais très gratifiant.
I bought a Prius prime limited and returned it for an LE. I'd way rather have Android auto, fabric seats (that don't burn you on a hot day) and 5-6k in my pocket, although admittedly, I will miss BSM..
Just got a base model. I'm charging every day and getting under 3 L/100 km in winter. I much prefer the small screen version since I get physical buttons for the heater, and Android Auto works.
Nice review! I’m a little over a year into my 2020 PP. Also, a Montreal driver. I agree with pretty much your entire review. But, as a person with a 35km drive to work, I think my gas savings are a bit more than your estimate. Also, there is a Circuit Electronique station right next to my office. I would add a couple items to the disappointment list. Apple CarPlay tends to disconnect randomly. I have no idea why! Very annoying when I’m listening to a podcast. And, I find the car has a hard time keeping the front window defrosted while driving in a snow storm. Overall, I like my PP. Now to save my pennies for a Cyber Truck!!
@@ChristopherCarReviews I got my Prime last month. Loving it so far. Wondered the same thing about snow. But then, the truck comes out for the days it's going to snow. Four wheel drive sure feels secure when it's messy outside
Hi Christopher, great review. I live near St-Sauveur and was wondering if the electric mode works immediately when getting in the car on a cold morning or does it need to use the gas engine to warm up first? (or does the battery keep itself warm when it is plugged in overnight?) Also, in your review you mentioned that you have to run the battery down to zero before plugging it in again in order to achieve full efficiency..I was told that it wasn't good to run batteries down to zero. Just wanted to get a clarification :) Thanks in advance for any info you have.
I purchased a base Prius Prime 2 months ago and I agree with everything you said, except for your hesitancy to plug it in regularly. To me, the 20 to 30 seconds it takes to plug it in is no big deal. As for the screen, I completely agree and it's why I purchased the base model. I used to drive a Chev Sonic, and the audio system was the only thing in that car that I would say is outstanding, especially when you consider the car's price point. The audio was superb and easy to use. A Prius Prime with that audio system would make the perfect car.
Why do you bother doing reviews of cars you can plug in, you certainly don't beleive in them, you look for excuses instead of being objective towards people who are looking at buying these, it does not need to be drained to be plugged in, your a joke.
@@ChristopherCarReviews I don't understand. I plug and unplug stuff in my garage almost every day anyway. How is this dirty and/or a pain? Even if you get 15 miles per charge, that's almost 5,500 gas free miles per year or 10 tanks of gas per year.
Agree. I have a 2021 and its my first plug in car or a hybrid for that matter. getting out of the car and plugging it in when I get home is no big deal.
Rav 4 Prime is a better choice $7,500 tax credit $33,500 final cost for Rav 4 SE with weather package 42 miles of range (67 kilometers) 34 miles Winter above 14 F (55 kilometers -10 C ) 302 hp 6 months 4,400 miles (7,081 kilometers) one tank of gas.
Yes, but there is no way to buy one, the waiting list is depressing. Worst thing is toyota pay to advertise them despite the fact that they don't have inventory! I makes me angry.....
I just bought one but i have a question. If the ev mode is not on and battery is fully charged then it will still give me that 153 mpg right? Love your videos by the way!
First of all the Prius Prime with the Tax credit is CHEAPER than a regular Prius! Second, Is it REALLY A BIG DEAL to plug it in? You must complain about putting your shoes on in the morning...
Thank you for being honest on the car review

@@komalpreetbrar7740 not at all. The big screen did look nice at a distance, but the software was very clunky
Why isn't the Prime available with AWD like the standard Prius is???

The car body is so low to the ground that it seems to be a potential problem for driving thru snow. Is it?
no

I think it okay, rather to charge everyday when I get home then waiting in line at gas station.
if you enjoy doing that, it is the car for you
I agree. It's not an issue plugging in the car when I get home

Well I have the puris prime XLE and I really like it. Its good for me

Great review!
Does it still use electronic mode even the speed is higher than 80 km/hr?
yes
An excellent video!
good video
Pluging in the car is an issue or did you just want to test the car without ev range ?
nah, i just got bored of doing that, everything is dirty, it is like gassing up
