I always felt it was more than just a gag because zoro is more than capable to become a captain on his own. Heck even an emperor. But Luffy makes up for his lack of direction in life. That's why they're perfect for each other.

Love the fact that you mentioned the devil fruit is only as good as the user. That is one of the series biggest power level equilizers. Oda mentioned that the power level comes from imagination and will and its a core idea on how he designs his characters. He thinks about their imagination level and how they could use the power effectively. Such a creative spin on strength.
These two sisters are by far my favorite reactors, for One Piece especially. Watching them is like experiencing One Piece for the first time again. Not to mention how observant and forward thinking they are and figuring things out, like the connection between Luffy and Eneru's Devil Fruit.
I like how his priest is called “Ohm”, the sound of which has religious ties (is regarded as a mantra) but is also the unit of electrical resistance. Oda is very good with double meanings for the subject matter in a particular arc.

The three types of devil fruits are Zoan, Logia, and Paramecia (sometimes spelled paramethia) Zoan users transform. Chopper into a human, Ms Merry Christmas into a mole, Pell into a falcon Logia users can conjure, manipulate, and become natural elements or substances. Eneru is lightning, Smoker is smoke, Ace is fire, Crocodile is sand. Paramecia is a sort of catch all for everything else. Robin growing limbs, Buggy being chopped up, Mr 2 copying other's appearances. Luffy is a paramecia because his body is rubber, but he can't make rubber out of thin air or control existing rubber. Same with Mr 3. He can make wax out of thin air, but can't turn his body into wax.
The two of you can figure anything out. I've watched so many reactions to One Piece but you guys ask questions and think of answers I've never seen anyone else do. Absolutely incredible.
Robin doesn't like to fight, which is why she usually hangs back and lets the others have their fun, like Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. She's quite good at it, however, not to mention ruthless and brutal if you manage to make her angry.
I've said it before, I'll say it again. I love the respect you're giving this show and how you're actually putting thought into it. This is the part of the show people tend to lose interest in and us hardcore fans just have to accept that but it really looks like you're enjoying your ride through the land of dreams!
I love it when characters just casually mention very important revelations because yeah, that IS the correct way to do exposition as the characters are delivering the information in a natural way.

@Haylo&Kiss Any body of water that gets above a fruit user's knees will make them feel weak. It's not just sea water. In a manga cover story, Ace was thrown in a river and almost drowned. Also, Chopper and Luffy almost drowned in the beginning of the Skypiea Arc.
People look down on Robin, but I feel she's the most unforgiving, cruel member our little crew has got despite being one of the lovable ladies our crew has to offer. She has absolutely zero compulsion in regards to honor and will always go for the most debilitating weaknesses her opponents have, and I think that is absolutely great. Even if she's not the strongest, she'll take fights where others won't, solidly making her escape the trope Nami sometimes finds herself in as the damsel of the crew.
when enel says "i am lightning" its a play on words because lightning in japanese is basically comprised of kami(god)nari(state of being). he's saying he is god manifest at the same time he's saying he is lightning. its beautiful

Robin doesn’t get many fights, but those few always end with an overkill: her breaking Yamas back while he was already falling to his death is a prime example.

About Giant Jack (the beanstalk), I think you were wondering how it got that big. It hasn't yet been explicitly explained how some objects get so much bigger in the sky, but you'll notice that there's a bit of a pattern there. It doesn't apply to all animals for whatever reason but it does seem to apply that all plant life got massive upon reaching the sky. So my guess is Giant Jack just grew that large over hundreds and hundreds of years' exposure to the sky environment. Something that Pagaya (Conis' dad) already mentioned is that island clouds and sea clouds have different concentrations of a component of sea stone called "pyrobloin." A theorist I know of on TH-cam suspects this is related, and I think they're right.
Devil Fruits are classified into three types: 1. Paramecia, the most common type, grant superhuman ability, just like Luffy and Robin (btw Wyper called it in episode 165) 2. Zoan, grant the power to transform into animals: Chopper, Pell 3. Logia, the most powerful type, grant the power to transform into a natural element: Smoker, Ace, Crocodile, Eneru
Also, Paramecia can have abilities very similar to logia, like Mr 3's wax fruit, the difference is a logia can dematerialize and allow attacks to pass right through them while a paramecia fruit would not allow you to dematerialize.
To add to this: The reason Logia is stated as "The most powerful type" is because of their ability to effectively become intangible once they become their "element/natural material". Crocodile could only be hit by Luffy when a liquid was thrown on him to prevent his transformation. So without some sort of strategy or countering abilities, they can seem pretty much invincible.

Zoan: Human-Animal Transformation. Users you've seen: Chopper, Dalton, Pell, Chakka, Lasso (Dog-Gun). Paramythia: Superhuman Power/ability to produce a substance, but not become the substance. Users you've seen Luffy, Robin, Buggy, Alvida, Mr 1, Miss Doublefinger, Mr 2, Mr 3, Mr 5, Miss Valentine, Wapol, Bellamy.
As far as Devil Fruits go, there are 3 types: Paramecia (or Paramythia depending on the translation) which give you enhanced strength or abilities, think Buggy’s Chop-Chop Fruit or Bellamy’s Spring-Spring Fruit. Zoan Fruits which give you animal properties (which includes human properties as well), like Chopper or Pell and have 3 distinct forms: human, hybrid and animal. And finally Logia types which turn the user into an element, like Ace or Smoker, and now Eneru. This is considered the strongest type. As you said, what makes the Devil Fruit users powerful is not the specific power, but the way that power is used and how inventive the wielder is with that power. For instance, because Luffy has a huge imagination he can defeat a much stronger opponent like Crocodile, despite having a seemingly ridiculous power.

Seeing the beginning of it all... about the one piece lore, history of the one piece world... Especially after getting a little bit mire deeper context based on the reveals allthese years and also the info from the recent chapters... makes it all even more meaningful, yet it's still incomplete, keeping the mystery intact not revealing too much, but still equally intriguing and exciting to uncover it all as part of Robin's journey, and all the people who sacrificed for it... And it all is one grand experience of satisfactory payoffs at multiple levels spanning over 20 years of the one piece story... I'm feeling very very emotional for Robin, especially after knowing the context of how much it all means to her, the world and many other beloved characters.
Zoan = shifting into animals, giving creatures powers, speed, more strenght, endurance... Logia = its like elements, its like user body is that. Like smoker, ace, crocodike and eneru. I understand the first part "hold our true motives in your hearts and speak not of it" that the writer of the ponyglyph wants to tell history to however reading the ponyglyph and wish that they will not speak of it because it's dangerous or because it's unspeakable history. Every wiki from the Poneglyphs, Devil Fruits, Will of D., etc, etc(there are some more things that I want to type here but I can't because they'd be spoilers). If you're caught up to the lastest anime episodes, it shouldn't be a problem as the wikifandom page that I read on all this topic doesn't spoil on the manga content there. zoan is specifically turning into animals, not shapeshifting in general, to clarify. They just give you the ability to turn into three forms: your normal form, full animal form and a form that's a mix of the two. Chopper gets more because of drugs.
Devil fruits can be classified into three types 1) Logia - Strongest of all.. this fruit generally is elemental and normal attacks pass through user's body. They are intangible. For example smoker with plume plume fruit and ace with fire logia 2) Zoan - it allows user to transform into animals.. there are mainly three forms human form (chopper in normal small form), animal form (when chopper turns full reindeer on 4 legs) and human hybrid form (when chopper turns big ). Same with Dalton and Pell. 3) Paramecia - basically all the rest devil fruits which doesn't come under zoan and logia. They are most common and very diverse... luffy, buggy, mr 3, robin all have paramecia.

I actually ended up looking up exactly when Logia got namedropped in the series a few days ago because I was having a hard time believing it actually got all the way here (and had long since revealed and showcased multiple examples) before revealing such a basic category.

I don't really think this is a spoiler because I remember knowing this information already when I watched this episode all those years ago, but it might be, so, possible spoiler about the devil fruit types below: Logia - elemental (crocodile too, yes) Zoan - shapeshifting (animals and other stuff) Paramecia - all the rest (Luffy, Robin, Wapol)
All of the Robin stuff with the Poneglyphs is so cool, and is super-important, especially later. It's so cool that it's set up this early. And Logia is a type of Devil Fruit, like how Zoan Devil Fruits are a type of fruit. While Zoan grant their users the abilities of certain animals, Logia change the user's body to be made up of certain materials. There is one other type, Paramecia, which is sort of a catch-all for other abilities. Eneru & Crocodile are both Logia-type users; Luffy, while it seems like he'd be Logia as well, is actually a Paramecia, as are Robin and most of the other Devil Fruit users seen so far. I think the difference is that Logia-types can have their bodies destroyed and reform, and since Luffy can't do that, his ability isn't considered a Logia-type.
Not really a spoiler but what the community had concluded by this point in the story. Zoan, Logia, and Paramecia are the 3 main categories of devil fruit. Zoan is based on transformations into animals for the most part. Logia is physically being transformed into the corresponding element and gaining a body that can't normally be hit or cut. Paramecia would be like Luffy's, Buggy's, and Robins fruits. They generally change your body to some degree, but for the most part Paramecia is a catch all for anything that isn't Zoan or Logia. Crocodile and Smoker would be example of other Logia fruit as well. Zoan's are really easy to tell cause of the transformations. Logia's natural body's being essentially ethereal is what makes them the most naturally powerful devil fruits. Really hope you ladies catch this. You guys don't have the luxury of being able to discuss with the community about these types of things and watch videos to know the stuff we did while this part of the show was airing so I feel like you should have someone helping you guys put some of the pieces together without out right spoiling anything.
Robin is so insanely cool in these episodes. She uses her brainpower and devil-fruit in perfect harmony, it looks effortless. Shes the perfect fit for her powers, though I've always wondered what it would be like if Luffy had them, or someone who uses pistols or swords
Here's a basic breakdown of the 3 types of devil fruits. Paramecia - grants the properties of something to your body (chop-chop, rubber) or the ability to produce something (Robin's flower-flower, Mr 3's wax ability) Zoan - shapeshift into a particular creature (typically 3 forms: base, hybrid, alt) Logia - your body becomes an element, leaving you immune to physical damage except for specific weaknesses based on your element (Crocodile being vulnerable to water, Eneru and rubber, for example)
You guys have actually been introduced to the three basic types of Devil Fruits. Paramecia: Basically every fruit that doesn't fall into one of the other categories. I believe it's said they are generally the weakest but also tend to have the most insane abilities. Examples include Robin's Flower Flower fruit, Buggy's Chop Chop fruit, Miss Valentine's Kilo Kilo fruit, etc Zoan: A fruit that gives the user the ability to turn into another creature. Examples include Pell's Bird Bird fruit model: Falcon, Chopper's Human Human fruit, Dalton's Cow Cow fruit model: Ox. Logia: Generally regarded as the strongest of the three, allows the user to turn their body into a natural element. Users can train themselves to turn into their element semi-automatically when attacked making them seemingly immune to normal attacks. Though as shown by Luffy hitting Smoker and Ace accidentally at the restaurant in Alabasta it's possible to catch them by surprise and hit them normally in addition to usually having a weakness of some sort. Examples include Smoker Plume Plume fruit, Ace's Flare Flare Fruit, Crocodile's Sand Sand fruit, and of course Eneru's Rumble Rumble fruit.

The types of devil fruits classes you know of at this point are: - Logia (the user becomes a substance/element and can create/destroy it at will; lightning in Enel's case, or fire in Portgas D. Ace's case.) - Zoan (the user is given the power of some kind of living creature such as dogs, falcons, bulls and so on. These have sub-classifications (for example, the Inu Inu no Mi/Dog Dog Fruit, model Dachshund eaten by Lassoo, the 'gun'-pet of Miss Christmas and Mr. 4). - Paramecia (basically anything else. Luffy is made from rubber, but not considered a Logia because he is not able to become Rubber, or to split himself up into his substance in the way Ace and Enel can. Same goes for Mr 3 who suffers from a similar shortcoming: he may be able to create it, but he isn't able to turn into it either, so the Wax fruit has a paramecia classification.) As you can see, the first category is incredibly strong just by its nature. How do you kill someone when their body just becomes an element when you stab them, preventing them from getting hurt? (Luffy found Crocodile's weakness, but it's usually not that easy.) Zoan is also considered strong, but this is very much related to the animal in question. A carnivore-based fruit like a wolf is probably considerably more lethal than a silly giraffe.) And Paramecia? These can be very strong, but they can also be incredibly goofy and hard to weaponize like Luffy's fruit is. But there will always be scenarios where a Paramecia is hundred times more effective than even a logia simply because of what it is. (You may or may not have sniffed out Luffy's...) With that knowledge under your belt, can you figure out what Smoker's fruit is classified as? ALSO, before people comment: I KNOW I left parts out. H&K don't know those things and will learn about them down the line, so I limited this explanation to the content they do know. One Piece explains everything, but it is really easy to miss details sometimes because Oda dripfeeds such lore by means of casual comments, so I'm just summarizing for their benefit.

People look down on Robin, but I feel she's the most unforgiving, cruel member our little crew has got despite being one of the lovable ladies our crew has to offer. She has absolutely zero compulsion in regards to honor and will always go for the most debilitating weaknesses her opponents have, and I think that is absolutely great. Even if she's not the strongest, she'll take fights where others won't, solidly making her escape the trope Nami sometimes finds herself in as the damsel of the crew.

About Giant Jack (the beanstalk), I think you were wondering how it got that big. It hasn't yet been explicitly explained how some objects get so much bigger in the sky, but you'll notice that there's a bit of a pattern there. It doesn't apply to all animals for whatever reason but it does seem to apply that all plant life got massive upon reaching the sky. So my guess is Giant Jack just grew that large over hundreds and hundreds of years' exposure to the sky environment. Something that Pagaya (Conis' dad) already mentioned is that island clouds and sea clouds have different concentrations of a component of sea stone called "pyrobloin." A theorist I know of on TH-cam suspects this is related, and I think they're right.
Devil Fruits are classified into three types:
1. Paramecia, the most common type, grant superhuman ability, just like Luffy and Robin (btw Wyper called it in episode 165)
2. Zoan, grant the power to transform into animals: Chopper, Pell
3. Logia, the most powerful type, grant the power to transform into a natural element: Smoker, Ace, Crocodile, Eneru

Also, Paramecia can have abilities very similar to logia, like Mr 3's wax fruit, the difference is a logia can dematerialize and allow attacks to pass right through them while a paramecia fruit would not allow you to dematerialize.
To add to this: The reason Logia is stated as "The most powerful type" is because of their ability to effectively become intangible once they become their "element/natural material". Crocodile could only be hit by Luffy when a liquid was thrown on him to prevent his transformation. So without some sort of strategy or countering abilities, they can seem pretty much invincible.

As far as Devil Fruits go, there are 3 types:
Paramecia (or Paramythia depending on the translation) which give you enhanced strength or abilities, think Buggy’s Chop-Chop Fruit or Bellamy’s Spring-Spring Fruit.
Zoan Fruits which give you animal properties (which includes human properties as well), like Chopper or Pell and have 3 distinct forms: human, hybrid and animal.
And finally Logia types which turn the user into an element, like Ace or Smoker, and now Eneru. This is considered the strongest type.
As you said, what makes the Devil Fruit users powerful is not the specific power, but the way that power is used and how inventive the wielder is with that power. For instance, because Luffy has a huge imagination he can defeat a much stronger opponent like Crocodile, despite having a seemingly ridiculous power.

Especially after getting a little bit mire deeper context based on the reveals allthese years and also the info from the recent chapters... makes it all even more meaningful, yet it's still incomplete, keeping the mystery intact not revealing too much, but still equally intriguing and exciting to uncover it all as part of Robin's journey, and all the people who sacrificed for it... And it all is one grand experience of satisfactory payoffs at multiple levels spanning over 20 years of the one piece story... I'm feeling very very emotional for Robin, especially after knowing the context of how much it all means to her, the world and many other beloved characters.

zoan is specifically turning into animals, not shapeshifting in general, to clarify. They just give you the ability to turn into three forms: your normal form, full animal form and a form that's a mix of the two. Chopper gets more because of drugs.

Devil fruits can be classified into three types
1) Logia - Strongest of all.. this fruit generally is elemental and normal attacks pass through user's body. They are intangible. For example smoker with plume plume fruit and ace with fire logia
2) Zoan - it allows user to transform into animals.. there are mainly three forms human form (chopper in normal small form), animal form (when chopper turns full reindeer on 4 legs) and human hybrid form (when chopper turns big ). Same with Dalton and Pell.
3) Paramecia - basically all the rest devil fruits which doesn't come under zoan and logia. They are most common and very diverse... luffy, buggy, mr 3, robin all have paramecia.

I actually ended up looking up exactly when Logia got namedropped in the series a few days ago because I was having a hard time believing it actually got all the way here (and had long since revealed and showcased multiple examples) before revealing such a basic category.
I don't really think this is a spoiler because I remember knowing this information already when I watched this episode all those years ago, but it might be, so, possible spoiler about the devil fruit types below:
Logia - elemental (crocodile too, yes)
Zoan - shapeshifting (animals and other stuff)
Paramecia - all the rest (Luffy, Robin, Wapol)

The big guy fighting Robin is named "Yama" which means "mountain".
All of the Robin stuff with the Poneglyphs is so cool, and is super-important, especially later. It's so cool that it's set up this early.
And Logia is a type of Devil Fruit, like how Zoan Devil Fruits are a type of fruit. While Zoan grant their users the abilities of certain animals, Logia change the user's body to be made up of certain materials. There is one other type, Paramecia, which is sort of a catch-all for other abilities. Eneru & Crocodile are both Logia-type users; Luffy, while it seems like he'd be Logia as well, is actually a Paramecia, as are Robin and most of the other Devil Fruit users seen so far. I think the difference is that Logia-types can have their bodies destroyed and reform, and since Luffy can't do that, his ability isn't considered a Logia-type.

"goro goro" is Japanese for the sound of thunder. It gets translated into "rumble rumble", hence why Enel's fruit is called the rumble rumble fruit.
Not really a spoiler but what the community had concluded by this point in the story. Zoan, Logia, and Paramecia are the 3 main categories of devil fruit. Zoan is based on transformations into animals for the most part. Logia is physically being transformed into the corresponding element and gaining a body that can't normally be hit or cut. Paramecia would be like Luffy's, Buggy's, and Robins fruits. They generally change your body to some degree, but for the most part Paramecia is a catch all for anything that isn't Zoan or Logia. Crocodile and Smoker would be example of other Logia fruit as well. Zoan's are really easy to tell cause of the transformations. Logia's natural body's being essentially ethereal is what makes them the most naturally powerful devil fruits. Really hope you ladies catch this. You guys don't have the luxury of being able to discuss with the community about these types of things and watch videos to know the stuff we did while this part of the show was airing so I feel like you should have someone helping you guys put some of the pieces together without out right spoiling anything.

Here's a basic breakdown of the 3 types of devil fruits.
Paramecia - grants the properties of something to your body (chop-chop, rubber) or the ability to produce something (Robin's flower-flower, Mr 3's wax ability)
Zoan - shapeshift into a particular creature (typically 3 forms: base, hybrid, alt)
Logia - your body becomes an element, leaving you immune to physical damage except for specific weaknesses based on your element (Crocodile being vulnerable to water, Eneru and rubber, for example)
You guys have actually been introduced to the three basic types of Devil Fruits.

Though as shown by Luffy hitting Smoker and Ace accidentally at the restaurant in Alabasta it's possible to catch them by surprise and hit them normally in addition to usually having a weakness of some sort. Examples include Smoker Plume Plume fruit, Ace's Flare Flare Fruit, Crocodile's Sand Sand fruit, and of course Eneru's Rumble Rumble fruit.

The types of devil fruits classes you know of at this point are:
- Logia (the user becomes a substance/element and can create/destroy it at will; lightning in Enel's case, or fire in Portgas D. Ace's case.)
- Zoan (the user is given the power of some kind of living creature such as dogs, falcons, bulls and so on. These have sub-classifications (for example, the Inu Inu no Mi/Dog Dog Fruit, model Dachshund eaten by Lassoo, the 'gun'-pet of Miss Christmas and Mr. 4).
- Paramecia (basically anything else. Luffy is made from rubber, but not considered a Logia because he is not able to become Rubber, or to split himself up into his substance in the way Ace and Enel can. Same goes for Mr 3 who suffers from a similar shortcoming: he may be able to create it, but he isn't able to turn into it either, so the Wax fruit has a paramecia classification.)
As you can see, the first category is incredibly strong just by its nature. How do you kill someone when their body just becomes an element when you stab them, preventing them from getting hurt? (Luffy found Crocodile's weakness, but it's usually not that easy.) Zoan is also considered strong, but this is very much related to the animal in question. A carnivore-based fruit like a wolf is probably considerably more lethal than a silly giraffe.) And Paramecia? These can be very strong, but they can also be incredibly goofy and hard to weaponize like Luffy's fruit is. But there will always be scenarios where a Paramecia is hundred times more effective than even a logia simply because of what it is. (You may or may not have sniffed out Luffy's...)
With that knowledge under your belt, can you figure out what Smoker's fruit is classified as?
ALSO, before people comment: I KNOW I left parts out. H&K don't know those things and will learn about them down the line, so I limited this explanation to the content they do know. One Piece explains everything, but it is really easy to miss details sometimes because Oda dripfeeds such lore by means of casual comments, so I'm just summarizing for their benefit.
