    I use the Red Aquila strings for my concert ukulele and never had any problems with them, I love the sound and feeling of them. I just purchased the Freemont black low G strings for my new Soprano ukulele...shall be getting them next week! Thanks for your information about the different brands and a demo of how they sound. Can't wait to try them!

    I don't know how you do it in all your comparo videos. I'd rather jump off a roof than to restring and stretch all these uke strings. I've learned a lot from your videos. Bravo!

    I was very surprised at how nice most of these strings sound. Although the Pepe Romero low squeak low G is my favorite the Fremont Black line run a very close second.
    Thanks again, Alex, for all you do.

    I use Aquila Reds on my crappy children's Luna soprano. (It is the one with a pink fairy on the front LOL) I did indeed have that string snap! Luckily it was still looking enough to use and since then it's been very nice.

    More great string info! Thanks Alex! I have not had great success with low G and am convinced it isn't my thing...but when I hear it (by others) I really like it lol. One day I'll get the right string on the right uke :D.

      Its not for everyone... I would probably get something thin and bright like the Aquila 16u string. That will give you the most high G sounding low G, much less overpowering. If that doesn't work, stick with what you know and at least you won't be missing out. 👍👍👍

    Fantastic video. Thinking about changing the strings to an Anuenue AMM3 to go for low--G and get mellow, warm sound and not too bright and for fingerpicking, Fremont Soloist for the low G + Worth Brown for the other 3 would be fine? Thinking about not widening the nut of course ... :) thanks a lot!

    Any recommendation for the Romero Creations ST-MG Mango? I know Romero has their own Low G wound fluorocarbon string set, but am wondering how they compare to these.

    • @UkesWithAlex
      @UkesWithAlex 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Romero low G is basically the same as the Fremont Soloist string. On a concert that would be my first choice... Especially due to the type of bridge on the STC. The fatter diameter strings might not even fit.

  • @kiaradrake541
    @kiaradrake541 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I saw in a video by someone else that if you want to go Low G you want to avoid wound strings or you’ll be replacing that one string a lot more often then the none wound strings… have you found that as well?

    • @UkesWithAlex
      @UkesWithAlex 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've seen ukes with really cheap fretwire have a strange shredding effect on wound strings but ultimately I usually make a wound string last upto a year of regular play so it depends on how regularly you would replace your strings...

  • @nigeldavey1043

    Hi Alex, I have used a substance ( which I am sure you are aware of with these Aquila reds to stop them catching and snapping which is called " Nut Sauce ". Might be of use to a viewer or two. Massage the string at the area where it it will pass over the nut as well as just applying to the nut. Tend to prefer Worth browns or Ken Middleton's living water strings now though. Oh and that Cat's tongue thing, feel the string and fit it roughest away from nut. You can close your eyes to enhance your finger sensitivity if need be. 👍

    • @UkesWithAlex
      @UkesWithAlex 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All very interesting stuff. I have used nut sauce but found it to react a bit to some strings and discolour them a bit which is fine for your own Ukes but I couldn't risk it on stuff I'm sending to customers. Appreciate the tip, you never stop learning.

    • @nigeldavey1043

    • @UkesWithAlex
      @UkesWithAlex 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have found all unwound low Gs to be unreliable on a soprano with quite wild Intonation issues. The Fremont unwound blackline low G works a teeny tiny bit better but, personally I think the Fremont Soloist is your best bet or a D'addario NYL031W.

    Hey Alex, I have a Enya nova Pro tenor and am currently using D'addario low g but find them a bit thick and tough on my fingers. I have a concert uke with aquila nylgut strings on and find these really nice to play. What do you recommend to change to on my enya tenor? Thank you

    • @UkesWithAlex

      The low G will be a bit tight in the nut slot. It should work but don't be surprised if the red low G snaps quicker than a wound string.
