SHINee's "Dream Girl" was part of their Misconceptions of You album, which came out in 2013. The song is called "Dream Girl" so the whole MV is a dream sequence. That is why all the sets look like the rooms have been turned upside down and sideways. For example, in the room with the green walls, it looks like the room has been tipped on its side and they are dancing on the walls with the wooden floor behind them. The whole MV has a funhouse, crazy atmosphere because it's all happening within a dream. That's why we see the video glitches and why they are jumping and falling from the ceilings and walls and why we see Onew roll down the wall, and the members climb in and out of the windows, etc.
Their outfits are mismatched patterns and styles -- and Taemin's pants look like two No. 2 pencils (pink eraser, green metal band and yellow pencil) -- because it's a dream and not everything has to make sense in a dream. (This was another of SHINee's very iconic looks, and it's one of the things that makes SHINee, SHINee.)
Fun fact: We can't see the girl's face because she is a "dream girl." It doesn't matter what she looks like because Shawols are SHINee's dream girls. (Shawols are supposed to imagine ourselves as the "dream girl" SHINee is talking about.) So, the girl represents all their fans. And the fact that her face is covered with flowers represents how their dream girl is as beautiful as flowers, etc.
That is why all the scenes are the way they are because anything can happen in a dream.
This song and MV is one of the dozens of reasons why SHINee won artist of the year in 2013 at the Melon Music Awards, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the Kpop industry. For example, this was the same year that they had comebacks with "Everybody," "Why So Serious?" and "Colorful," among many other accomplishments.
Seriously, SHINee's 2013 Misconceptions of You, Misconceptions of Me and Misconceptions of Us trilogy of albums have some of their most iconic songs to perform live. But to be fair, all of SHINee's songs performed live are pretty iconic.
Taemin is now 19 in the "Dream Girl" MV. Onew is 23, Jonghyun is 22 and Key and Minho are 21.
Rolling on the ground/rolling up the wall, etc. is short of Onew's signature go to comedic move. You will often see him doing log rolls and somersaults when he is trying to be funny. Like when we see him roll down the stairs during their live "Like A Fire" performance at their SHINee World Concert III in Seoul. However, Onew is also known for being super clumsy and he often trips over his own feet and falls, etc. It's such a common occurrence that the other members and fans have nicknamed it "Onew condition."
You definitely need to check out their dance practice video for "Dream Girl," th-cam.com/video/EsfiOO4AVdg/w-d-xo.html, as well as a live performance. And of course, like everything SHINee does, it's always 1000% better live. Just wait until you see their mic stand choreography in concert. Their MVs don't even begin to do their songs justice. When it comes to SHINee, you ALWAYS need to see and hear their songs live to fully appreciate them. The song will have a completely different vibe and be even more epic live no matter what they do. That is why it's an undisputed fact that SHINee are the KINGS of live performances. Everyone in the Kpop industry wishes they could perform live the way SHINee does.
The mic stand choreography is legendary and, like SHINee, it was so unique for its time and unlike anything anyone had done up until then. Just another example of what makes SHINee pure greatness and why they are considered one of the best when it comes to their vocals and dancing. :D
There is even a famous moment in one of their MCountdown comeback stages for "Dream Girl" where Minho's mic stand breaks in the middle of the dance and the way they all improvised and kept on dancing just shows how skilled and professional they are. Check out an episode of the variety show Beatles Code 2 where they talk about it. I love this episode of the show because it has so many iconic SHINee moments. I think you will enjoy watching it. So that is why the hosts are dressed the way they are, they are supposed to look like the members of The Beatles.)
SHINee's mic stands have been specially made to be lighter and stronger than a regular mic stand, and if you watch the show I suggested above, you will get to see them up close, etc. However, the SHINee members still had to train a lot with them to be able to pull off this impressive choreography.

The outfits in this one were meant to be chaotic and disjointed because it's a dream world, but yes, choices were made....
This song remains the ONLY song to ever win a quadruple crown in a single show, because the song kept winning so all the shows instated a new rule that a single song can only win 3 times.
I'll be the annoying stickler... They only won 4 times on show-champion, and as you say, they changed the rules to prevent it happening again. Inkigayo and Mcountdown I think always had the triple-crown rule (after 3 wins a song is removed from competition). Music bank still doesn't, you can keep winning so long as you get the most point (record is currently 17 wins for Gangnem style, more recently BTS got 16 wins with Dynamite). Music core only added the triple crown rule earlier this year.

You're right about the possible injuries lol - there's some brief footage of them practicing the choreo and they're whacking themselves in the face with the stands and dropping the mics... the choreo is so crazy. The song's been out for more than a decade now and I think(!) it's still never been covered by anyone complete with the mic stand choreo, haha, it's just too difficult. The mic stands themselves are also custom-made to be lighter but still sturdy enough that they can stand on them. They used them just three months ago for their 2024 encore concerts! (Yes, Onew and Taemin do their respective flippy mic stand/mic bits when they perform it live.)
Onew also recently sang the entire song by himself live on a show, covering everyone's parts. Don't think he breathed for the entire three minutes. Man's got the lungs of a whale.
I love that we are getting lots of Shinee this week. They bring me so much joy. And since Roscoe seems to have his fashion critic hat on, I wonder if he’d consider doing a review of Key’s Gasoline music video.

Yes fashion choices were made but remember it is a dreamscape, but man they were wild. And yes JOYce is correct, anything resting on your collarbone is a collar - anything close to the Adam's apple for guys or mid neck for woman is a chocker.
This song was so catchy they changed rules at the awards shows.
@Roscoe This blew my mind. When you say “ Did you see this outfit”” Your talking about Taemin’s outfit? Everyone “”” Did you not notice Taemin at the end. He’s in yellow and orange. The outfit is the shape and color of a pencil. It even has the top as the eraser. Look close at the end. I laughed so hard when I did not notice the first time I saw it.
