I remember my parents not letting me watch horror movies growing up but my elementary school library had a ton of these paperback books for each classic horror film that went over the plot and had a ton of pictures. I lived for these books back in the day.
I'm sooo jealous of all the creepy stuff you can get/do around Halloween in North America! We hardly celebrate it over here, last year I could only scare 2 groups of trick or treaters 😑
this is the program series that i remember from my childhood, john www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Ftribwgnam.files.wordpress.com%2F2014%2F10%2Fc5745253e52a2bf7d258b237c0fa1c12.jpg%3Fquality%3D85%26strip%3Dall&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwgnradio.com%2F2014%2F10%2F12%2Fchicago-tv-flashback-shock-theater-creature-features-monster-rally-and-more%2F&docid=wHDu7a-aFGeUYM&tbnid=siHXe1m9OgMH5M%3A&vet=10ahUKEwi28I3Uz7bTAhWJ4IMKHaO_CdwQMwg2KBMwEw..i&w=502&h=372&bih=518&biw=1187&q=creature%20features%20logo&ved=0ahUKEwi28I3Uz7bTAhWJ4IMKHaO_CdwQMwg2KBMwEw&iact=mrc&uact=8 because my parents were a lilttle older when I was born , I pretty much could watch what ever I wanted with out any perantal over supervision
I had pretty shitty parents, but one cool thing they did was let me watch whatever I wanted. I think it was late in elementary school or beginning of middle school... there was a big shop pretty close to where I lived with lots and lots of VHS that you could rent, and the guy there was also pretty cool because even though you had to be 18 to rent most of the horror movies, he'd let me rent them anyways if I had a note from my parents saying it was ok. After a while, since I was there so often, he didn't even bother with the note, or sometimes he'd just call and talk to them. Ah, the good old days :D
My Horror movies memories are centered around a tv series called Creature Features....it was through this show that I watched the classic horror movies. Such as. dracula , the full version of Frankenstein & others...the mummy became my favorite fright film... This series was on WGN TV, from 1968 to 1974.. I really miss this series ! The series' icon was a line drawing of Lon Cheney in London After Midnight
Here in the States we had Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs on TNT. It was the tits. As for modern horror/sci-fi stuff check out Black Mirror on Netflix, the third season was just announced and it's some twisted shit.
In FL, when I was little, we had Shock Theater that came on at midnight, Friday night. On Sat. afternoon, we had Creature Feature with host Dr. Paul Bearer! Never missed them as a little tyke.
I don't know if you have watched it, but in the 90's TNT use to have MonserVision which was hosted by Joe Bob Briggs. My friends and I fondly reminisce about that one. I was much like you my parents wouldn't let me watch horror, so I had to catch it on late night TV, and then when I went to college I would go rent horror videos. I remember I really wanted to see Hellraiser and I had to go to three different video rental places to get it.
a movie theatre near where I live has a freaky friday horror marathon twice a year It's €29,50 for 4 movies, breakfast and chances on winning various prizes like dvd's, t-shirts, mugs etc. they always ask on their fb for suggestions which movies people would like to see Last April they showed: The Forest, Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, Kristen and The Hallow This month the Freaky Friday marathon will fall on my birthday and 3/4 movies titles are known to be showed that night, as for now 4th movie is still a surprise personally I hope it will be either Shut In or Phantasm: Ravager * Southbound, this movie is a replacement since originally they chose Rings but the American release was rescheduled for Feb. 2017 * The Windmill Masacre * Ouija: Origin of Evil
I'm a twilight zone fan...this old tv series was based on Sci fi..with random horror segments in it...Another thing that I remember from childhood is that on WLS tv ( channel 7 in Chicago), they had a weekly series called afterschool movies...they did show some made for tv horror movies..I don't know how good or bad they were. .. Because it was during the later afternoon ( the starting time usually was 3 pm) & I never had any desire to watch them...
there was TV series ( when I was much younger ) called Creature Features... nothing but horror movies... it was on every friday night..... they did away with it after a while!
Nineth Gate is good man. It's just Gothic literature. When I was a kid I enjoyed Bram Stoker's Dracula with Gary Oldman. I loved it. The only horror movie that scared the living daylights out of me was The Blair Witch Project...in pure darkness, home alone at night.
TMC still does this, but it tends to be more silent/black and white films or really obscure ones like House of Dark Shadows, but I think last year they did Friday the 13th and Halloween.
I LOVE "TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE" I USED TO WATCH THEM EVERY MORNING ON SYFY OR IT COULD HAVE BEEN ON CHILLER I CAN'T REMEMBER IT'S BEEN SO LONG. I DON'T THINK IT COMES ON ANY MORE UNFORTUNATELY. BUT I THINK THAT I HAVE SEEN ALL OF THE EPISODES😊
P.S. MY FAVORITE MOVIE IS "A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET" ALL 7 PART'S OF THEM. THEY MADE A 8th ONE, BUT IT SUCKED, BECAUSE ROBERT ENGLAND THE REAL FREDDY DIDN'T PLAY THE PART. SOMEONE ELSE DID AND THEY COULDN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO ROBERT!!! I'LL TELL YOU THE MOVIE THAT SCARED ME TO DEATH WAS THE EXORCIST!!!
Because I’m 14, my mom won’t let me watch many horror movies or movies in general but as of lately I’ve really got in to the 1960s Twilight Zone. It’s in black and white (obviously) and there is not much physical horror but more psychological horror. Like the Shining with less blood.
you just described the ninth gate, Black metal werewolf.. why would it be shitty? I've seen a horror film that was so bad that it made me pshysocally il!
AMC? nope.. they show a Halloween marathon every year... Every Saturday evening from 10 pm to 12 am ,I watched a tv show that broadcasted all of the classic horror movies It was called Creature features... the drawing Icon was of Lon Chaney from London After Midnight
It seems like a lot of networks/channels will come up with a great idea and manage to screw it up over time. Bravo used to show awesome scary movie moments countdowns every October, but now they only show "real" housewives and other garbage.
hey since your a fan of horror and metal I have the best of both worlds look up carach angren-two flies flew into a black sugar cobweb or when crows tick on windows they are really good they even describe themselves as horror metal
"Some shitty Johnny Depp movie where he's looking for an evil book" How DARE you sir?! Roman Polanski's "The Ninth Gate" is a great film based off an even greater book called the "The Club Dumas". It's the literary nerds classic Faustian Luciferian tale and is steeped in the history of demonology. I highly recommend reading the book and at least revisiting the film.

The original Fright Night 1 & 2 are on my top 10 list of favorite horror movies.
