Thank you! I'm on a DRG video binge and find watching the videos helpful. It keeps it real. I had a great trial and am looking forward to the pain relief of the permanent (surgery in two days!) but I'm scared of post op pain. Thank you again! Peace to you!
One of the biggest things I “preach” is that your pain has to be greater than your fear. I wouldn’t have gotten both a SCS and DRG in 6 months of eachother if the pain wasn’t killin me. You’ve got this! I made these videos to keep things real cuz the company’s and doctors don’t want to tell about. Always here to answer questions or for a pep talk ❤️❤️
Did you get it? Ion know at this point in my life in just not sure I can put a object inside me, I know the point of these is to stop taking pain meds but heck they help and I don’t have to get cut Open 2x’s a year just to change the battery 🔋 which is the kind my doc use which is better than having to charge it yourself having to hold it in a certain spot for a hour or how ever you charge it, either way hope things work out for you…
@@jackwilson2910 yep, I got it 6 months ago. I have not heard that what they have to cut us open twice a year to replace the battery! Maybe once every 5 or 10 years? At least that's what I was told! It has been really helpful. I have been able to cut down on my meds, increase my activity, and get some of my life back :-) Good luck to you!
@@lindad5492 ion know maybe I heard wrong maybe he did say 6 yrs not months…. Well hope you continue to have success with it, as of now I’m just not ready to have something inside my body just yet, I’ll stick with injections
I just had Abbott's newest technology the Abbott Proclaim Plus featuring FlexBurst 360 and WOW it's amazing!!! My Abbott Protege battery died after eight years and this is an amazing new upgrade that I am beyond thrilled with!!!
@@thewilltowalk6651 Thank you! i knew my battery was dying and I happened across an article in. Pain Medicine newsletter I get saying that the day before I read it Abbott had just gotten FDA approval on the new Proclaim Plus FlexBurst 360. So I call my Abbott rep who happens to be an old classmate from 27yrs ago and had her coordinate with my doctor to get insurance prior authorization and get the new IPG. I was the first person in the state where I live to get it and even better was i was $245 away from my out of pocket so in essence It cost me peanuts and the insurance took a bath in that claim lol. Thank again!🇮🇪☘️🇺🇸
@The will to walk, I'm having the Abbott DRG Proclaim in a few months. I have CRPS in both feet and calves, from a crush injury 22 years ago. Did the same doctor put both your Boston and your DRG in? Or was it 2 different doctors? Were they done at the same time?? I don't think my PAIN Dr. works with Boston Scientific, so if the DRG doesn't give me all the pain relief I need, then what do I do? Do I have to find another pain doctor?? Please advise. I really appreciate everything you said in your video!!
I had two different doctors perform the trial for my SCS and DRG, but the same neurosurgeon performed both permanent implants. My Boston SCS was implanted in Feb 2020, and then the DRG was added in July 2020 after we realized I needed more coverage. Is there a reason you want the Boston for your SCS? Cuz if there isn’t, it would be easier to have both your SCS and DRG through Abbott cuz then you could keep with the same doctors, reps, etc for everything
Jen, my Pain doctor is only taking about putting the DRG in and nothing else. For 19 to 20 years my feet and calves had been numb while I was on the Fentanyl (150 mcg). But there was a Dr. Tollestrup on TH-cam who presented himself as this great peripheral nerve surgeon. I'm in Illinois so I went to see him in Nevada and he decompressed my 3 peroneal nerves (the deep, common and superficial). Well when I went home my feet and calves had pain and prickly, burning sensations. I'm not even sure my diagnosis of CRPS was correct----- I may just have peripheral neuropathy! Do you think the DRG Proclaim spinal cord stimulator can take away my pain if it's just Peripheral Neuropathy??? Thanks for replying honey!
Hi, cool video! :) Since both reduce pain, do SCS and DRG have different functionalities? Also, if you would just choose one, which one would you choose?
The SCS works by beating the pain signals before they reach the brain while the DRG acts as a sort of sedative for the pain signals. I would definitely say the SCS has been, by far, more helpful than the DRG. The 32 contact paddle put out by Boston Scientific covers my whole pain area (from the upper back to my toes) with 75% relief on bad days and 100% relief on good. I have also only needed it reprogrammed about 3 times in 9 months. The DRG, on the other hand, has been a bit all over the place. I got great relief with the trial, but the permanent hasn’t been as helpful. I finally got some significant relief after my 6th programming in 3 months, but that only lasted a couple weeks until I started having breakthrough CRPS flares, so I’m sort of back to square one with that foot. I will say, though, that my case is a bit unique in that scar tissue from when my L5S1 blew out in 2012 requiring back surgery left significant scar tissue, which prevented the SCS signals from reaching below my knee in that leg. The DRG was a bit of a “Hail Mary” because you usually need leads on L4, L5, and S1 to reach that area, but only my S1 was viable. Also, the DRG is quite new, so many insurances won’t even cover it because they see it as “experimental.” So I’m basically thankful for any relief I can get in that foot as that is where by CRPS originated before spreading to most of my body. I hope this answered your questions.
For the DRG, I don’t carry my remote anywhere really cuz it’s such a lower set, no feel device, that once it’s set, you are good to go. And for the SCS I carried my remote with me for the first few months as I adjusted to my different settings. I would suggest looking into Medtronic because they have AdaptiveStim (something I discuss in “the positional nature…” I hope this helps!
Hi there does the Boston scientific help you with your pain? I have pain in my leg burning tingling sensation can you let me know please I am in the waiting list for the trial
I have LOVED my Boston. It has helped a wide pain area although cannot help the foot where my CRPS started due to scar tissue from an old back surgery blocking the signals. Wishing you a very successful trial!!
Yup! That’s the placement for a cervical SCS. I have a thoracic incision for my SCS and sacral incision for my DRG....as well as incisions for each battery pocket
I have the boston thing in my back and I have 32 contact point I get stim feeling in my leg but nothing in my back is that normal the tech can't seem to get it on my back does it sound like I need a different tech or me be one that it don't work for??
It all depends on the placement of the leads on your spinal cord. They may be placed low enough to cover your legs but not high enough to cover your back. If the surgeon placed leads with the ultimate intention of providing both leg and back pain relief, you may want to either get an x-Ray to ensure that nothing moved or have a different tech try programming you
