    We are based in North Wales and manage around 150 colonies of bees, plus nucleus colonies.
    We produce Great Taste Award winning honey and sell nucleus colonies to members of the public.
    Our 6 frame overwintered nucleus colonies sell out very fast every year so early ordering is advisable.

    We supply F1 Mated Buckfast and Jolanta Queens throughout the season. The UK Mated Jolanta Queens are reared using genetics used by the UK's biggest bee farmer - Murray McGregor - and are not available to general public, except through resellers like us! Check out our queens page on our website.

    We are passionate about beekeeping and really enjoy helping beekeepers through our TH-cam channel.
    On our channel you can find information on making splits with swarm cells, making increase with queen cells, grafting larvae, foulbrood and disease inspection, honey extraction and machinery, top tips for beginners, products reviews, instructions and guidance plus much more.
    #NO NONSENSE BEEKEEPING is a UK based beekeeping channel, designed to keep beekeeping as simple and enjoyable as possible. There are no overly complicated techniques or intricate pieces of equipment.
    We cover all beekeeping topics ranging from queen rearing, disease recognition/control, honey extraction, swarm management/collection, how to make splits and much more!
    My personal favourite aspects of beekeeping are selecting queens for rearing, rearing queens for mating, making up nucs for overwintering and collecting swarms.
    We aim to bridge the gap between commercial and hobbyist beekeepers and cater for beekeepers of all experience levels.

    Haha! No apology needed, I totally knew I was writing off a honey crop, but like you I wanted to get the mite loads super low for winter. Your advice on treating early is bang on :)

    I pretty much did this a few years ago. The comb was black, the boxes were beat up. I got rid of the old deep frames and kept putting in new frames and foundation. It wasn't as dramatic as what you did, but my hives were dying and I couldn't figure it out. I had our state inspector out and there was no sign of high mite loads, or EFB or AFB.
    I'm thinking a pesticide application that went wrong somewhere nearby the colonies.
    I'm looking to go new boxes this year. Maybe a few Layens hives

      Hopefully it gives you good results. What I like about the extremeness of doing it all at once is there is nowhere for any disease to hide and reinfect the new equipment. Its the perfect break

    I wish you would date stamp videos as this was clearly a little while ago now. It can be really confusing for new beekeepers to know what time of year a video relates to unless it's stated. Bear in mind people will be watching this video months/years after it was made/uploaded. I only have 3 colonies but after pretty much everything going wrong this year, I'm going into winter with two of your UK Buckfast queens and they are both looking good so far.

      I agree. Presume it must be done on purpose to encourage people to join the patreon and see the videos in real time…

      Sorry. I always forget to timestamp them. It was filmed in August.
      I film between 10-20 videos over a single weekend and then drip feed them onto the channel. TH-cam really penalises us for uploading 20 at a time, so we hold them in the channel membership page.

      I do my best to elevate any that are time critical but its hard when there is 40 odd videos in there as lots are relevant and some (like this one) get forgotten about :(

    How do you keep the bees in the new boxes when you shame them. Do you have to exclude/cage the queen of luck down the whole colony. Or do they simply stay in place?

      Sorry for the horrible spell checking. Almost reads like a ransom note.

    Question! 🤷 After shook swarming everything could you not of just OA vapour everything? Quick easier and would it not have been as effective? Definitely think your right though with cycling frames out and might give it a go next year 👍

      Also you forgot to tap the frames first 😂 love it when you get stung haha definitely makes the video 😉

      @BlackMountainHoney  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes. They also got a vape of OA at that point as well :) Perfect time to do it!

      Was thinking the same thing. No Apivar with it's chemical residue in the new wax. Oxalic acid before the capping began should have decimated the mites.

    I thought you were taking a chance with this one. Lucky you put that veil when you did, they got very spicy after that first sting 😮😂

    Youre in Wales ? Winter ? But you uploaded this a day ago? Do you not upload according to the present season and weather conditions in our hemisphere because you have some type of strategy like youll only do it for people who pay you ? Or whats going on here because its confusing and i bet it can be misleading to some people that are starting out

    We’re do you get your insulated hives at?
    And do you ship buckfast bees to the states?

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We get those boxes from Paynes and unfortunately, we are unable to ship to the US :(

    • @NevadaBeeMan-nq3po

      @@BlackMountainHoney how come you don’t ship to the USA? To much red tape or is the survival rate what you worry about ?

    Do you think that your poorly progressing colonies may have poorly mated Queens from 2022. In Northern Ireland sunlight levels in June - September have dipped significantly since 2020. 2019 was the last year with a normal light curve. Not only does this affect flowering, it is unseasonably cold so queens have been hit and miss, with poor mating being a problem and possibly lack of food at critical times. This year 2023 was so bad only 25% of boxes even thought about swarming. Some of those I performed controlled splits on failed from both parts due to the weather stress. I can’t imagine Wales too much different but I haven’t checked. I can send you the graphs

      Could be. We see next year as I havent replaced the queens. I am expecting a bumper harvest :)
