Hello! I liked the video, BUT! I must argue that ship is not made of "Stalinium" as it was laid down in the Russian Empire times. Also, "guided by the hand of Stalin" would not work for the same reason. I know it sounds nitpicky (probably is) but it is glaringly obvious that there is not a single red star on the ship, and if you look at its flag, you would notice that its a Imperial Russian Navy flag. Communists were famous for renaming things, so "Imperator Nikolai" did not remain, nothing reminding of the Old Russia has. Ship was renamed "Demokatiia" (Democracy) and then "Soborna Ukraina" (Union of Ukraine) then scrapped in 1929. Sorry for the long post!
The Konig Albert is hilarious at Tier 3 with it's typical German BB armor, 41k hp and secondaries, and has a pretty good range for it's Tier, second only to a fully upgraded South Carolina. Have fought higher tier BBs with more remaining HP and won with it thanks to that armor and the fact that it's essentially a Kaiser at Tier III.
I understand why they changed the matchmaker, Omaha, Kongo, and a few other ships were beasts when they were getting in matches with Tier III ships however what they should've done was tightened up the tier spread to a plus or minus one on all tiers and stopped tier 8 and above from down-tiering to keep the end game tiers full. Now we have the tier V break where Tier V is constantly being thrown up as canon fodder in tier VII matches, and Tier VI is constantly thrown against Tier VIII making formerly wonderful ships like the Cleveland and Omaha get clubbed like baby seals.
LOL, I love my niki and have been playing it a great deal lately. You described it perfectly tho when talking about its early MM, I played some with it but shelved it cuz of T6s MM. It's awesome to play now.
Timur Sagdiev apart from grem, nikolai and Belfast there are no overpowered ships. Some ships just require communication to use them to full potential. A minotaur can be obliterated by hydro or radar. German Dds can sneak up on a minotaur and spot it with hydro and Spam torps in smoke. And it eats cits like crazy. Moskva has an awesome long range radar, but it's low duration means you have to tell your Team to focus the target you radar. Yamato is weak to HE spam and planes. Zao once focused dies quickly, too, and can be spotted by planes of a good cv driver too since it has weak AA. The game works on a Rock Paper scissors principle, don't try to beat everything with a rock.
I m a bad boy, i love to pick up the 3 premium Battleships of tier 4 specially the Nikolai with my Langley, i have her for some seal clubbing, great video well played 👍👍👍👍👍
My best seal club game was 9 destroyed in my Murmansk with 195 damage done. Sad thing was it was a tier 6 game. Good times. That was about 8 months ago and the over all player base seems to have improved quite a bit.
I am not sure what is worse, the Nicolai or going out with carriers when matchmaking smiles on you by giving you over 6 BB and no DD's on the other side. Still I like taking out the Albany with it's pop guns
I do have one question. Where would you fit the boiler rooms and engines ? With that turret arrangement there will be no space for them. Or does it have some miniaturised electric propulsion ?
actually it is possible to get one in a super container, the odds are very high though. if you don't believe me check out Vulgarr the Viking's channel, he got one while opening a super container during a live stream.
the best way to destroy this ship is fires! =/ it catches fire farely easy, but it can tank literally almost all shells on low tier battles. you could torp away. but do remember turn rate in it is fairly high in my opinion, it feels heavy, but turns fast
Russian navy wasn't a thing in the history, so it has to be at least somewhere, btw what else overpowered Russian thing have you seen in Wargaming? So much complains
I'm a big Nikolai fan as well. But there is another ship which similar forward facing guns, and that is the Dunkerque. Of course in that ship its not made for retreating in and showing your broadside, kiss of death.I learned to play the Nikolai against T6 ships so T4 is seal clubbing, and T6 DDs are harder to sink than T4.

I think Wargaming limited Tier IV players to nothing higher than Tier V to keep newer players from getting discouraged. That and 9 fwd firing guns. Getting the maximum # of guns to bear while staying angled always a challenge. 4 for the Kongo, 9 for the Nikolai. Stay out of range or die ingloriously.
was trying to play a litle tier 1 but after 12 games it was not possible because to many sealclubbers. then tier 2 with umikaze but also herte it was not possible to play the ship,every 2. enemy was a high skilled expert,then i gaveup to play lower tiers under t5.

Any BB except German ones takes massive damage from showing their side and citadel to enemy BB. So that's nothing special against Nikolai. Instead of maximal belt armor thickness what matters more is how much hits can be bounced while having good number of guns to fire back. While that medium waterline armoring all the way to bow makes it harder to hit citadel through there. And you're equally wrong about fires. Extensive "medium" armoring of midship and lack of superstructure makes Nikolai the most proof T4 BB against HE spam: HE shell penetrates only plate with thickness of 1/6th of shell's caliber and failure to penetrate also halves HE's fire chance. So Nikolai takes the least amount of direct damage from HE spam while also having less fires ignited. Kaiser has equally that medium armoring, but it has superstructure vulnerable to smaller caliber HE spam.

Nikolai, compared to it's frontal armor, is especially vulnerable to penetrations of the rear athwartship bulkhead, more so by comparison than any other BB I've had in the game, and I've had nearly all of them. Nikolai does burn easily, this is not the same as the lack of direct HE damage, which is true due to it's lack of superstructure. This does not stop it from being set ablaze, at all. Lighten up Francis.
Vulnerability of stern is hardly the most meaningfull area for weakness in overal gameplay. And regardless that started fire does same percentual damage robustness against HE shells leads to less fires per same number of hits. That fire chance halving mechanics is also why average number of HE hits needed for starting fire goes up noticeably from New York to New Mexico, which has 25mm deck and side plating. Also IJN cruisers like Furutaka, Aoba and Myoko have very HE proof midsection compared to other cruisers.

Brushed past another BB in a duel that you need to leave behind you rather than continue the turn and expose broadside? First of all congrats for a perfect defensive game play. Second, grate accuracy for a tier 5 BB. I have 4 event Kongo, there is no way a Kongo will be as accurate as Nicolai. Downside, oh, ya. Nicolai is so slow, garbage range, if a Kongo wants to mock you, it will stay at 15 km+ range , traveling with only 23 knots using He just o put salt on a open wound. Hypothetical You fight a Kongo 1 on 1. I can't speak of other BB's, I am not a BB player. A good Japanese DD player will take Nicolai as a huge Christmas Tree full of exp. Even a skilled German tier 5 cruiser can rush You an gift You 2 torpedo salvos, , and trust me with that turning inability it will be game over. A good bully in close combat, I must admit that, attack it in pack or sail away. It will pick enemies 1 by 1 with ease. Out ranged, out speed can be deal easy.

Definitely a very good ship. I regret spending so much money on WoWS, but the Nicolai I regret less than most.

I got the nicoli out of a Christmas package yesterday. I didn't realize it until I saw it in my port. it's a fun ship.
Had a 7 kill carry match in mine last night, most of it at the end when I thought for sure the potatoes had lost another one.

Every Russian ship is overpowered in their tier. I can't play this game unless they decide to remove 1960s Russian ships.

Pulled one from the Christmas boxes and played one game in it. Ended up getting a Kraken Unleashed.
