Mary-Elizabeth O'Neill, age 15, singing Pur dicesti, o bocca bella by Antonio Lotti . Opera Night 12/5/08, St. Paul's Church Northport, NY. Daniel Ragone, accompanist.
I think a lot of people don't realize that many of the critical comments are coming from a place of respect, for the young lady and her talent. I teach musical theater singing (have a Broadway background), so I give honest, supportive correction and feedback when I see videos of younger people singing. Those who are serious about their talent KNOW they've got some ability, and don't need "Wow, you're so wonderful, only 14???". They want to learn how to get to the next level, and appreciate the informed comments. Don't take me wrong. "Wow, you're great" is fine, and appreciated. But don't bust on those who critique in a constructive manner.
Ummm I am really surprised with all these negative comments. You are amazing!!!! You sound like a famous opera singer! Don't listen to them because they're just jealous so haters back off!!!! :) AMAZING VOICE
It doesn't matter what 10 year olds can do! This is a fairly difficult piece and she did absolutely wonderfully with it! She has more training to be done but saying that crap doesn't help her. Telling her she's the most wonderful singer ever won't help her either. She has a beautiful voice, yes. She can sing with great agility, yes. And about the music, you have no idea what her story is. She could have had just a few weeks to learn this. She may have memory problems.
Well! You give "piacer" and then some with your opulent natural voice, so simply and brilliantly produced! I wish you the best in your professional life. Who is your voice teacher?
Well, this young lady is now 28, so this comment is for those listening now...although she is singing in a very favorable space, this seems like a very big, nicely registered voice used with some freedom...the problem with singing a bel canto showpiece like this is that you are up against McCormack, Caballe, Jadlowker, Onegin and various others... this aria needs to be sung with obvious mf>mp or even pp contrasts during the phrase repeats and with ornaments, turns and trills in the various repeats of the verse. One should look at what McCormack and Onegin did with it...if you can't do this, then stay with something more straight up like Caro Mio Ben, which can use, but doesn't require, virtuosity. These are classic showpieces and just because you can sing the notes doesn't mean you should do them if you don't have command of all the fioritura...
@operabuffey she is amazing how could you say she's bad???? You're honestly just jealous so hater back off. You won't get far in life acting like that. Even if she were bad, which she is far from...you don't need to say mean things. Anyway no 10 year old can do this unless they are hoping to strain their voice she's 15 and she is amazing so yeah gotcha hater
Brava! So young. Try this aria with a professional conductor and listen to our italian vocal coach reading the lyrics in the rhythm to the music on www.e-vocal.com !
Wow.....how pathetic. You really are not qualified to insinuate such a future. Most ten year olds' that have parents ignorant enough to start them on such mature material can forget a long term career. Their voices are to young and won't develop properly without VERY careful training. If parents are willing to start voice training that young then it would be literally insane to allow them to perform in public! The child will burn out in a year. You need to check your facts. This girl is wow!
Seriously... videos of people singing on TH-cam hardly ever impress me, but this is really great.
NO WAY she is 15! One of those RARE prodigy singers! BRAVA! I know 30 year olds that don't sound this good
that was the most beautiful thing i think ive ever seen on youtube she is 15 and she has such an adult voice BEAUTIFUL
What a beautiful, talented young girl. You have a great voice! Don't pay attention to the negative comments; envy...obviously!

But actually, you are 15. Beautiful sound!! I really enjoyed this recording.

wow she is NOT fifteen! incredible, I'm so jealous!
Do you know what key this arrangement is in? I'm planning on doing this song for a college audition.
absolutely amazing!!! what colleges are you looking at??
I'm using this song for my college audition she has an amazing voice
And don't compare voices. ESPECIALLY if it's to young people. This isn't a race to see who can mature their voice the fastest.
Just practiced to this first audition is Friday
you CAN'T be fifteen...
wow.
Bella
In the footsteps of the great Count John.

Besides some very minor mistakes, this was wonderful! Better than most college freshman! However please be careful that you are not forcing your sound
try not to sound so closed on the "er" of piacer during the triplet sections,
but other than that fantastic, very mature voice! :)
OMG THIS IS INSANE
brava
Great techniques for a 15 year old.

Really? Well why don't you try and tell me if you can do this. I seriously doubt you can.
What??!!!
