Nice video. As a frame restorers I do honour how the frame was finished originally, so not always an indication of no restoration.
I can't find the reference, but I have read that gilded edge frames where referred to as royal frames.
You can tell country of origin by the bole colour. And on English frame the time period too, which is nice when you are learning. 😊

I am an oil painter who also builds his own frames from scratch. I mill and combine the rails, design, print, and mold compo, make rollers, and paint/metal leaf/technical wax/shellac the finish. I once read about a famous painter complaining about finding the right frames for his work, which resonated with me so much I went on a 3 year pilgrimage to learn this rather secretive craft.Your videos are useful. May I ask, are there any books that you would recommend about classic frame manufacture that you know of? Anything is useful.
