A keyboard with ghosting may prevent you from performing a dog leap. I suggest checking this before training since you may avoid frustration this way.

its kinda working for me but it's super inconsistent; i've found that slow rolls from having chain gun in your loadout also work for the trick
what's the secret ingredient that makes it work? do i need to change my walljump mode or my FPS or something? is it just timing the w input?
For me it has been the w input right before the ledge. I play on 144hz and 144fps so that may give me an advantage in identifying the time to input w. Other than that, practice! I had holidays and a lot of time on my hand to practice.
You could indeed change your wall jump mode to walk instead of jump and it will make your dog leaps consistently hit. This may give you less control over your character since you can't easily slide off a wall while moving away from the wall. As you have found out in testing inputting dog leaps with the wall jump mode to walk will be consistent from 120 fps and above.
You can do it more simply with a heavy gun. This technology is useful to shorten the time it moves when it is originally used with heavy guns. However, the map that can be used is limited, and the practicality of this technology depends on the map. If you want to use and use this technique well, please practice in the center of the sewer map. I want to explain exactly what I found in the technology, but [zru] described in the video is something I found and explained independently that I didn't understand. I was the first to discover it, but [zru] spread this technology and informed how to use it.
You can do this technique off of roof rolls and sable rolls too which did not make it into the video.
EDIT:
I will not make another video since even in those situations you can do dog leaps off of slow rolls.
