2 reasons for India's defeat
1) Biggest setback was Dhawan injury. He is the most underrated ODI player in World cricket. I think that messed up the whole planning of team and they didnt have any backup. Cos those days our plan was top 3 of Rohit-Kohil-Dhawan will take care of 60-70% of the batting.
2) Rayudu exclusion from team. He is a player who can score against both pace and spin.
India made the same mistake in 2003 where they dropped Laxman who was always good against Aussies in ODI and Tests for a average Dinesh Mongia.

Dhoni calculated last over very well. Even with Ben stokes in final, the equation was same 23 off 9. Dhoni knows that he can clear 2 big hit in final over and can score 16-17 in last over of jimmy nisham. Also the biggest blunder by kohli was to send him at 7 in crunch semifinal!

From 92/6 to 221, it shows pitch eased out after new ball lost its hardness. Indian management decisions in the batting order cost us this game. I agree with vikrant here Dhoni could have come up the order at the fall of third wicket.

@@soumenchatterjee32759 When Dhoni had arrived, India was in a very sensitive situation. Even Pandya who is a big hitter played with a strike rate of almost 50 in a partnership with Dhoni. Main target of India was to not lose any more wickets as run rate was not a big issue till that time. This was the reason the overall balls taken by Dhoni were more. Still the strike rate of Dhoni was much better than Pandya. Jadeja was the main batsman who actually took the charge and started hitting consecutive boundaries and scored quick runs that led to a big relief and release of pressure for India. That partnership of 116 runs had changed the game completely and every Indian felt like now we can win this game for sure. We were 208-6 and only 32 runs away from the world cup final when Jadeja got out but still we had hopes because Dhoni was still there. Everything got shattered for Indian fans when Dhoni also got run out. Had he been there till the last ball, I don't think Newzealand could stop Dhoni from making us win that semi final.
Even bigger mistake was not playing shami in starting 11 who had taken 14 wickets in 4 matches, while he picked chahal who conceded over 60 runs in 10 overs.
2019 was the most heartbreaking loss, I think that reserve day just broke the rhythm of our team and gave time to NZ to regroup as team and devise new plans, the new ball did so much that day, Kiwi bowlers were on fire, even Santner bowled so economically. All n all that was our wc for the taking.
Only Rohit Sharma scored most of the runs only top order dependent team... pitch was also difficult to score...

1. Dhwan injury ruled him out they should called rayudu in intead of rishabh pant ..rayudu will not played irresponsible shot like pant in semifinal .he also saves ind against Nz from same suitation in Nz series just 1 month ago .
2. Dhoni should bat at no 5 to build the innings and pant should come late or should open if he called in place of dhawan ..to utilise powerplay and kill the swings which dhwan used to did ..ind just need start of 30-35 for none and thats it ...
3. Blunders : picking vijay shankar sharma in squad / dinesh kartik on basis of T20 performance in IPL special for RCB

Dhoni had become pathetic as a batsman from 2013 onwards, which forced him to retire from tests in 2014. He had 0 centuries outside the Indian subcontinent, no centuries in Australia, NZ , England, West Indies, South Africa, etc. Also during 2017-19, people were expecting him to retire because his strike rate had fallen in the 60s and 70s in the first 40-50 balls Dhoni faced, causing India to lose a lot of matches due to Dhoni. This was completely opposite of what Dhoni's reputation was in the early career days when he would win matches and score at 90+ strike rates.
