  • This type of circuit diagnosis can be frustrating but it shouldn't be. With a few tools and some know how this can be very easily tackled.

What I like most about this technique is how you can do the testing without disconnecting the connector at the oxygen sensor. The moment you disconnect that connector, you've disrupted a possible source of the open/short to ground. Then, after building evidence, you can remove the connector and verify suspicions with a test light and multimeter.

So, who could I go to, to get this full diagnostic? I've had a persistent issue with a P0161 code; and have replaced O2 sensors, and a lower catalytic converter; and all the wiring end to end... so, I'm baffled. What recommendation can you make? I'm in Austin, TX

chris meyers You may have a failure inside PCM

Just wondering if u got it sorted? I've the same issue! Is p0161 the rear o2 sensors or does each one have a diff code?

I've got a 96 Explorer XLT. Have a 161 & a 156 code replaced both upstream o2s,fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. Moving on to fuel pump next. I've also heard an exhaust leak can cause a lean code which is what I had before I replaced the o2s. This video made me think of a short which sucks but hey it's an explanation. I am ok with cars but my electrical knowledge is sadly lacking.

Another great demonstration. Very true..., new means new, not always good. It seems as if the aftermarket electronic components are not very good and sometimes don't play well with the PCM.

Could the white wire that showed 0v been shorted to ground also as a possibility?

I have a frontier 2003 I have on the check engine light I check the voltage on the 2 white wires and I get the 12 volts with the ignition switch on is already the second oxygen sensor that changed brand bosh but I still having the check engine Light on also tested the continuity of the 3 cables that came from the computer and all have continuity also check the continuity in the connection of the harness and sensor connection and mark continuity?? I forgot to mention that I have code P0141

    Good vid.
The final test i would do is to check the resistance of the heating coil in the O2 sensor. Connect an ohmmeter between 2 white wires, it should be in a range of 2-6 Ohms.
    Thanks

Basically change your sensors with original OEM parts not always after market parts work for your car long story short .

Might be my problem changed all 02 sensor 6 codes when installed new 02 senaors.. Put 3 of the old 1s in after cleanup 1 error code.. Might have to cough up 60 dollars for the ORIGINAL part...
