  • This video takes a look at some of the issues that stem from identifying as gender fluid, genderqueer, non-binary, or whatever it is the kids are calling it these days. It explores the relationship between masculinity, femininity, and gender, gender as a binary, and the use of gender-neutral pronouns like ze and hir.
Disclaimer: This video pokes fun at SJWs and tumblr-ites, but isn't in reference to anyone who actually experiences gender dysphoria.

If you never heard of the idea of 'genderfluid', would still think you're flipflopping between male and female? Wouldn't you be using the words like 'passive' and 'energetic' instead? You're not changing genders, you're changing to different moods, whims and states of mind.
And if you don't like this, you'll have to excuse me for favouring logic over emotion, because feelings are easily swayed.

+amindoutloud There's nothing wrong with you behaving the way you want to behave. Sometimes I want to listen to black metal, sometimes I want to listen to post-rock. We all have preferences and that's just being human. It's a problem when people demand they have special classifications, pronouns, and recognition for the specific way in which you're different.
There's already a unique signifier for the unique individual you are, it's called your name. You can also legally change your name. I am perfectly happy with you telling me your name and referring to you as that, but if you're demanding I ask you on a regular basis how I need to refer to you, I'm simply going to stop communicating with you because at that point you're just crying out for attention.

Tbh, I don't really care if someone wants to call themself gender neutral or whatever, if they're a decent person and not a raging "sjw" I'll respect their decision. However, I don't understand why we need all these gender neutral pronouns like ze/hir, etc. Surely "they" is gender neutral enough?

    • @aratakitheoneandoniitto
      @aratakitheoneandoniitto 7 ปีที่แล้ว +117

A lot of people see "they" as being grammatically incorrect or awkward. Most of the time they is used in conversation it's to refer to a group of people, such as "They are eating together." For some people it just sounds weird when referring to one person and not a group. The English language, and many other languages likely, lack a gender neutral pronoun that isn't also used to describe something else that's completely different.

    • @stellasdoesstuff
      @stellasdoesstuff 7 ปีที่แล้ว +204

But then people forget that in English we DO use "they" for a single person! Especially when that person's gender is unknown. If you want to communicate that someone stole a cookie, but you don't know who that person is, most people would say "someone stole the cookie!" "Who?" "I don't know, *they* just took it!"

Does she get "That's not a real gender" every time she comes out? - If she was claiming to be something other than what she is physically, she might. But i don't think it would affect her much. She'd probably just ignore them.

As a gender fluid person here is my take on the “requirements” of being trans. I have dysphoria when I am not the way I was born. Also I don’t choose to wake up felling masc and go “hmmm what if I be a man today just to be ridiculed and oppressed at work?” No. I am a man during that time. With dysphoria. I would wear a binder. Put my hair in a way it looked short, and went by he him and they them pronouns. I always go by they them because it always somewhat fitting. Like if being a girl was hot weather and being a boy was cold weather, the temperature would change for me. But I would rather wear a tee shirt and light sweater than always be in a tank top or have to change all the time.

I can't say who you are, but i think a lot of nonbinary people are just confused and have really bad social dysphoria so they relate with people who cant decide their pronouns and their expression changes on the daily.

I have a question if that's alright. Could you possibly just be feeling fluctuating levels of dysphoria? Like Trans women are born with female brain structures or matters (Although obviously science isn't near in explaining it.) But these areas changing drastically on a possibly daily scale is a bit? I'm not sure what my point it. Maybe it's just hormones and social reactions varying the amount of level you experience the stress? Meaning your brain gender is male but you feel the stress of not looking or not being perceived that way fluctuates. Or is there occasions where you definitely want to feel a woman? I wish you a safe journey :) Thanks for reading

Neda Laj thank you for asking! I don’t really know. It’s confusing some days I fully identify as a girl and other days I identify non-binary and others I’m a boy. I’m born a girl, and I remember times as a kid when I was exited to go through puberty and everything that came with it. But now I have days were I try to hide it as much as possible. And I feel uncomfortable as a girl. I last in each gender about a week or so, and it blends between. I wish I had just one gender, or an answer, but I honestly don’t know. I might figure out someday, but for know gender fluid fits me best. Once I heard it, I felt safer. So that’s how I identify.

@@eleo8266 Hope you manage to figure everything out x In my personal experience, as a kid I wasn't too worried about puberty but once I started it- it was horrible. I felt really uncomfortable with my chest and periods and often hid under large clothing. Also when asked what gender I could be- I couldn't help but feel like I didn't want to be any gender. I even remember wanted to cut off my breast. I found the term agender and felt really connected but as I aged I grew more body confident and with hindsight, it was probably a mix of not wanting to change, confidence issues and depression. what you said kind of reminded me of it- but maybe I've interpreted it differently. I remember a couple years ago. I was friend with this person on tumblr. They were genderfluid. But they allowed anyone to call them 'anything'. As long as they were friends with you. So I asked if it was okay for me to refer to them as a girl. They said sure. So I use to say "she " and "her". They also used to change there description all the time on there tumblr and they asked people to check it everyday before talking to them. Because they'd changed it from "He/him" one day to "she/her" to "They/them." but if you got special permission you could use a one you were more comfortable with. As long as you are there friend.
Long story short was we ended up getting into a fight. And I refereed to them as a 'girl'. and they told me I misgrendered them, they than made a couple of posts to say I was a this horribel person and I should be hated on. I was so confused because I used the term they told me I could use and I explained that, and I explained it to people. and it turned out I wasn't 'allowed' to use 'she/her' if we were fighting and I had to refer to there tumblr to see what they were comfortable with that day. so I decided alright, I'll do that. They kept publishing my asks. And I said "I'm sorry I misgendered you, I'll call you he" and they then went around and was like "well thanks to you, I don't feel like a him/he. So I changed it again to They/them. So once again you are misgendering me. Which means you are abusive." and I ended up getting really frustrated and used they/them and they then said "Thats not my pronouns either" within the same day they changed from she/her to him/her to they/them back to she/her. And when I gave up them and just used 'they/them' it turned to 'oh now your just misgendering me because you want to. and you are picking whats most comfortable for you. My comfort is more important."
I ended up not being friends with them in the end, even though our arugement could have been settled because it felt like at that point I never would have done it 'right'. I felt like I was caught in the trap of 'you are miss gender me even if you don't mean to. and for me it was horrible to sit there and have there 'followers/friends' harass me over not using there at the moment pronouns and I was so confused because I was told at the start that the one I asked if they were okay with being referred to was 'okay' to use.
I also find it interesting when I talk to people who are genderqueer/nonbinary and how they tell me they are because they don't like 'girl stuff' or they dont' like 'boy stuff'. or they like 'both'. Like I've been told someone they are nonbinary because as a kid they played with cars and trucks and also dolls. And now adays there fav movies are action flicks along with romance. So that makes them 'nonbinary'. Because they break the women 'stereo type".... But to me it always confused me because I view those as aspects to a personality not a gender. What sex you are or gender isn't related to 'yeah must be a boy cause they like horror'.
I mean I use to play with bugs, mud pies and cars as well. I liked sports I also really liked dolls and dress up. I still like most of that stuff. (Although I don't play with bugs anymore or mud pies lol) but I like getting dirty with mud with gardening or doing hikes that get me sweaty while also enjoying dress up or Disney movies. I also collect dolls and for me that doesn't really say 'my gender is female'. It just always says "this is what I like / this is what I spend my free time doing" So yeah I've always found that strange.
I also realize this video is old so you might not see this or reply. But I felt like I should probably say something.

If the person refuses to pay the fine and/or says to the OHRC: "I'm not going to comply with any orders that force me to use words that are not of my choosing and free will!" the person will likely face incarceration until such time they decide to do what the OHRC ordered them to do in the first place. I’m genderfluid and personally I don’t care if you misgender me, sometimes it doesn’t bother me, other times I just politely ask the person to fix it for the day. I also usually tell them to call me they/them if they don’t know. All people are different and I’m really sorry you had a bad experience with someone like that, I don’t want the world to hate use (genderfluid, non-bianary etc.) because some people are like that.

"...other times I just politely ask the person to fix it for the day. I also usually tell them to call me they/them if they don’t know." - Was the person wrong, though? I mean when they 'misgendered' you. Did their misgendering match your physical sex? Let me put it another way. When you go in to see a medical doctor it's vital that they know what your true, physical gender is, for obvious reasons, right?
Well, was the person(s) who 'misgendered' you actually correct? I mean 'correct' in the sense that they called you the same pronoun that you would use when visiting a doctor.
"...politely ask the person to fix it for the day." - You might be asking is polite _tone_ , maybe, but that's definitely not a polite thing to ask. It suggests that the person did something wrong in treating you exactly the same way they treat everyone else. There's nothing for them to "fix". And the fact that you actually think this statement> "I also usually TELL THEM to call me..." is acceptable in freedom loving society is mind boggling. Where do you live? Australia?

That's so true, it's basically some backwards regression into sexism! Some people always fall exactly in the middle or some grey area, but these are very few in every category. Even most intersex people are actually intersex men and women. Only a few inter conditions make you 100% androgynous and intersex organisations actually point out that intersex does NOT equal a third or many additional sexes. It's a bit of an overlap of male and female, and that's it.

As a transman, I can agree with what she's saying about the who agender situation. I don't understand why there are so many dislikes. I like how she is still using facts and the two gender spectrum, (which I believe is valid) but keeping in mind that sex and gender do get paired with each other, yet they can be split into identity. I appreciate how she keeps the trans community in mind and refers them as the gender they are, male or female, no hyphenated or added words to explain their gender. But I am a man who transition into a male and wishes to only be said as such. Traits of each gender or sex is not a threat but rather an aspect.

@@nicoleashlee1740 Same as me. As a trans boy, I do struggle sometimes. But thankfully not as bad as others. STORY TIME!
At the start of 6th grade, I wanted to explore my sexuality and gender identity, just being curious! I looked into what transgender means. Then compared it to how I often feel. Then my brain finally clicked. I held it in for a few months. But my sister suspected I was hiding something, and forced me to come out. The next day I explained (while crying because I was scared she would hate me) I hate being called a she. I hate being called my birth name. She forced me to come out to my mom that same day. They both didn't care and tried to 'fix me' in a way. Tried to make me wear girl clothes and makeup. I hated every second. Any time my sister had to choose a side, me, or someone trying to make me wear girl clothes, she didn't ever choose me. She calls me a girl and my birth name. Yesterday I went shopping with her and my older cousin. I saw this very cheap and cool camo jacket. My sister blurted out "Brooke, those are boy clothes!" I was shattered. She told me once she thought she was transgender also. (She's not) So why can't she treat me like I want to be? Why do I have to suffer because of a way I was born? Why can't they accept me? I don't see a way out anymore. She makes it very clear she doesn't accept me. She makes it very clear she loves me less than others. She makes it clear that she will never accept me. Idk what to do. If I could get some advice that'd be amazing. Idk what to do. Plz help.

Alright guys. I've gotten a lot of comments about intersex people, so here are my thoughts:
If we can't say "there are 2 genders" because of intersex people, then technically we shouldn't be able to say "humans have 2 arms" either, because polymelia means that some babies are born with 3 arms.
There are 2 genders. Humans have 2 arms. These are facts.
Also, I haven't actually heard of anyone claiming to be genderfluid because they were medically-diagnosed as intersex. Genderfluid and intersex are, in my opinion, two separate issues, and even if someone is intersex, it still wouldn't lend itself to changing back and forth between genders so frequently that gender-identifying bracelets are needed.

Most actually intersex people do end up identifying as male or female anyway, for example, XXY intersex usually ends up being male. • @kukalakana

I think some people are right in that tumblr tends to conflate androgynous (just meaning a not very girly girl or not very masculine boy) with actually not having a gender. Like, I get it -- there is an actual biological basis for being a tomboy, but that doesn't mean you are not a girl/woman.
For pronouns, I use singular "they" but only when referring to a person in the abstract sense, not to anyone in particular. As in, "If you go to the doctor tomorrow, they will give you a pill." In this case, "the doctor" is a single person, but I do not know if "the doctor" is male or female. Other than that, fuck it. Unless you're transitioning or something, you get the same he or she from me.

    • @hitchipa
      @hitchipa 8 ปีที่แล้ว +42

Well yeah, Intersex is a birth defect. We don't create new genders for birth defects. Can downs syndrome be a gender now too? Also seeing as we ALL start out as female, if there is any deviation from that, you're actually genetically male. To be female is to experience no change at all. Should this change however get stuck at say 2% or to the point where it's only just noticeable then sure, pick your sex and roll with it, but that choice comes only from two sexes. Good video, keep it up.

when us genderfluid people describe our "masculine" and "feminine" days as, well, masculine and feminine, what we mean is (at least what i mean), not just the characteristics of being masculine and feminine, but feeling it also as well. some days i won't feel like a boy, some days i won't feel like a girl, some days i'll feel like both, some days i'll even feel like neither. the genderfluid identity isn't exactly "fixed", it moves around from time to time. gender expression and how we dress doesn't exactly define our gender(s), it's what makes us comfortable when we feel like a boy, girl, etc. i could dress "masculine" one day and just as easily feel like and identify as a girl. it's gender expression. what i'm trying to say is, people often confuse gender expression with gender fluid, so i thought i'd try to clear that up (:

Does that mean I"m a man for the day? No, it just means I'm wearing his pants or shoes. Why would you want to restrict yourself so much that you want your sense of style to be labeled a gender? Why do you want gender stereotypes to be so rigid that you can't just be a woman who likes to dress like a man, you have to become a man in order to dress like one?

_______________Just a tip for better civil discourse: Being proud of yourself for taking good steps in life, making good decisions, accomplishing goals etc. is all fine and well, but self-pride merely for the sake of existence (aka, "just being who you are") is not a healthy strategy. It makes a person look and sound as though they think they're better than other ppl. Which in turn leads to division and the bullying of those who disagree ("those" meaning "the one's who try to treat everyone equally in kindness and in a respectful manner").

shmeet I’m... confused by your argument.
Are you saying that people be themselves because it’s egotistical and puts everyone else down? That’s... not how it works.
Being yourself is more shouting making decisions that stay true to yourself, and not what other people want you to pick. A person can be true to themselves by expressing aspects of them, like with: fashion, hairstyles, mannerism, way of speaking, etc.
What your saying, from what I gathered, is that people who are “being themselves” bully others for not being treated like a special snowflake. That is not how it works. Like, at all.
Everyone should treat everyone with respect. Period. Which, includes using their proper name, pronouns, and comfort zones. And that’s what all people generally want. Respect.
Those who ask for it, are usually people like you who don’t give any. And judging from all the other comments you’ve posted here, I’d say my statement is true. If you aren’t respecting someone, either expect not receive any respect (and then claim it to be bullying) OR expect someone to ask for some. It would be oh so easy to do it. Respect is the bottom line of mutuality between individuals and you somehow dig underneath it.

That's the appropriate way to begin an interaction with someone. Respect is something you generally earn as a consequence of positive repeated interactions over long periods of time.
Not that it matters but i feel the need to defend myself a bit from your accusations (which are actually your misinterpretations of my comment). I happen to be very polite and well mannered. I don't even cuss in public. I treat everyone as i myself would like to be treated. Plenty of friends, i get along with everyone. I act in a very respectful manner. But that's not "respect," it's just acting in a respectful manner. Respect is earned, not given automatically on demand by anyone. Just because YOU say that "respect" includes "using their proper name, pronouns, and comfort zones.", and that this is what all people generally want, doesn't mean you're correct.
I really don't think much about respect at all. Never have. Do my friends respect me? IDK, you'd have to ask them. Doesn't seem like a question that needs considering. You can be friends with ppl you don't respect. Respect is not some kind of prerequisite to basic humanity. It just isn't. And asking other ppl to utter words they, for whatever reason, don't believe represents the truth is an incredibly DISrespectful thing to do! Are you able to comprehend what i'm saying? Can you actually see things from the other point of view?
What i refer to you as is none of your business. Your "comfort zones" are not my problem or concern. I am not responsible for your happiness or emotional well-being, that's YOUR responsibility. One that you should treasure and guard jealously. Never give it away. It's not the job of society to make you feel comfortable. You will receive the same treatment from me(society too) that everyone else receives. No more, no less. Everyone is referred to by the pronouns that match their body-type. That's an equal application of categorization if ever there was one. If you want en exemption from this system you're going to have to offer the world a better doctor's note than the one you have currently. The one that says "I don't like it because it makes me feel bad."
A real reason for an exemption would be something like serious medical conditions, dementia, being born with no limbs, quadriplegic, car accident victim, severely mentally challenged, actual trans-sexuality where normal daily life is nearly impossible without surgical intervention...etc. Obviously these ppl could use a helping hand and anyone should be happy to help. Even if it means going along with the ramblings of an elderly dementia ridden person. But we don't do that for the young and healthy who are just confused about 'thoughts and feelings.' Grow up. Get used to pain. That's what life ultimately is...pain. Hopefully you will find some happiness in between the pain, we all do to some degree. Enjoy it.

I personally know someone who is genderfluid. Unlike what the creator of the video states, it's not just about feeling "masculine/feminine".
Because they are biologically female, they experience gender dysphoria when they feel like a guy. Periods are hell for them because their mind is telling them that they're a boy and their body is…well, functioning how any biological female would.
They fluctuate between feeling like a girl and feeling like a boy. (Which I don't completely understand because I don't really "feel" like anything lol, but I won't judge).

Besides, they had to do A LOT of research to find a label that would fit them. (Actually, I discovered the term "genderfluid" before they did.)
They were so incredibly overjoyed to finally understand what they were going through.
They're definitely not trans, but I wouldn't treat them any differently if they were. (And yes, I'd say being genderfluid and being transgender can be pretty similar).

Samantha Sarco we live in an age where people make up brackets that they personal fit into because it makes them feel special. Some of these brackets only serve that one function, making you special. I can not get behind that in anyway.
I get that you can be in doubt about your sexuality, but gender? And then proceed to say you can switch in between genders and make up a third gender seem a little too far out there.
People that have Schizophrenia can change personality (gender based on personality) but they're not gender fluid because gender fluid is a new term that was made up.
Question is how much of this is only psychological and how much is biological...

    • @samanthasarco8665
      @samanthasarco8665 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Darth Atheist They aren't schizophrenic, and they don't want to be special. They hate attracting attention to themselves; they have social anxiety.
I know that some people definitely do try and fake their gender in order to "fit in" and get attention (just like people who will agree with every single one of your opinions in order to be praised and to try to feel relevant)…however, they are probably the most genuine person I have ever met :^)
And yes, gender is psychological, as is sexuality. Allegedly, chemical imbalances can influence your gender…which is honestly what is probably going on with people who are trans/fluid/whatever. I would guess that fluctuations of estrogen and testosterone would determine their gender.
Add in social influence, aka things in our daily life that are associated with either gender, and bam, it gets that much more confusing.
I won't claim to be an expert or even half understand what causes different genders or sexualities, but I will say this: if it's not broken, why fix it? (Which is basically a response to people who claim psychotherapy will magically align their gender to their biological body…which almost seems similar to "Pray your gay away!" or whatever)

It's a condition, but it should probably also be considered a third sex.
Our sex is defined by our chromosomes and reproductive parts. If those traits can vary in their alignment without impacting our health, then should we really define sex simply by two narrow categories?
Let's say you're born with a mixed bag of chromosomes and you end up having two different sets of reproductive organs. If those organs are functional and you can't self-identify as male or female via your physical or mental traits... then which of the two sex options will you choose on a job application? How will you get into professional sports if you're required to verify your sex? If you're an intersex child, your parents can remove one of your sets of reproductive organs without your consent, so which ones do you hope they choose to remove?
A third sex label is necessary and needs to be normalized until we understand the condition further. Otherwise we risk discriminating against those who don't medically fit into our two defined sexes.

There are males who were born with an intersex condition and there are females who were born with an intersex condition. Some of these conditions are serious and some hardly noticeable. Sometimes extra copies of an X or a Y is present but this doesn't mean that person is a new gender. Here's the rule:
So long as there's a Y in the mix that person is technically, biologically, scientifically, genetically, objectively male. No Y's = female.
This happens to less than half of 1 percent of the global population according the UN. See for yourself, don't take my word for it. Do your homework.
Intersex Conditions usually have names that end with "syndrome" "disorder" "deficiency" or some medical terminology you would need to hear twice to say it correctly. They're not mere "variations" of cellular growth, it's not common.. It means something went wrong. They're medical conditions, some can be fatal if left alone. You want some proof that these are conditions that affect males and females? Just look up Intersex Conditions.

For me, what affects my "feeling masculine/feminine/nb" is based on how comfortable I feel if people refer to me as "she" or "he", or even "they". Some days I can't even stand the fact of someone calling me a girl because of my dysphoria, it's not a matter of 'today I feel like wearing boyish clothes', its more like 'I feel uncomfortable being referred as a female today', so I use other pronouns, like "he" or "they". It's how people see me, it's called social dysphoria, I also have body dysphoria, some days I like having boobs, a vagina, etc(feeling like a female) and some days I hate every part of it(really hating, not just 'wishing I had a dick rn😣😣😣'), meaning that day I don't feel like a female. If that's not fluid then idk what to tell you. It changes, the pronouns I feel comfortable using, the way I see my body, the way I think of myself, it changes. I wear more masculine/feminine clothes because I want to feel less dysphoric according to the gender I am that day, I understand that dressing like a boy doesn't change my gender. My gender changes, and that's why I dress differently than other days.

To be fair, this is my journalism background talking and not as someone advocating for special pronouns (I personally hate the idea of special pronouns for making things more complicated), but "they" has already been used as a neutral and singular pronoun long before this SJW crap.
For instance, someone asks you if someone is still at the office.
You can respond with, "They left already."
Grammatically correct and still functions as a neutral pronoun in this context. I don't know why people suddenly forgot that "they" has been used like this for a long time when it's applicable.

    • @DN-lu9ky
      @DN-lu9ky 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Because it's fussy and just enables special snowflakes to create more confrontations. Most people with special pronouns don't advertise what their special pronoun is. If I go up to someone, I will have no clue if they want to be called zim if they do not let me know ahead of time. Most would not wear it on their shirt or something. Heck, there are many special snowflakes who don't even transition well. They suddenly demand people read their minds and magically know what to refer to them as out of the blue.
In other words, it's stupid to pander to such a small minority in such a convoluted way. I am all for showing respect to others, but from my perspective - the confrontational, special snowflakes who would be the ones writing long-winded essays on Tumblr because someone "violently" misgendered them at the store or whatever are the ones who don't show respect to the general population themselves.
      Respect has to be earned.

The idea that clothes or hobby preferences somehow determine a gender is nonsense, a cognitively lazy behavior that would be far better to try and dismantle than the overall concept of gender itself. Wearing pants instead of a dress doesn't make you not a woman anymore; playing sports doesn't make you "boyish, nor does cutting your hair short or even shaving it completely. The fact that people like to make lazy assumptions based on shallow signifiers like this, that's what we need to change. Instead of an end to all semblance of discrimination, let's have an end to people classifying everyone they see in the quickest, least-effort way possible, so that they can decide how to treat strangers based on a profile.

Hello, I'd like to add my two cents to the topic. I understand that some people mix gender and personality, but that doesn't mean every single nb/genderfluid person is going through a phase.
I wanted a more professional opinion so I asked my therapist about the topic and this is what she told me; a genderfluid person doesn't have control over how their identity shifts, so you can't exactly mark on a calendar what gender you'll choose that day. The person's dysphoria fluctuates dramatically (in a way that is different from binary trans people) which causes the person to experience the "feeling" of different identities. Yes, people sometimes confuse it with personality but that doesn't invalidate the experiences of actual genderfluid people.
I personally believe it's real but it's much rarer than people think it is. On that note, I hope everyone who reads this takes it into consideration and I hope you have a good day!

I tend to lean more left, which is funny too because I study business and a lot of business tends to be much more conservative. Being younger tends to push me to be more left, of course. But I also align a lot with these views, because I don't respect the notion of safe space and "protecting" people from views that don't pat them on the back for being stupid. I became who I became BECAUSE of all the bullshit, bullying, etc that I had to go through, not despite it. I am thankful for having to endure that kind of pain as I grew up because it gave me a better sense of appreciation for what I have now. If I never had to endure any of that I never would have needed to grow as a person and I would probably be an overly entitled asshat who thinks he's God's gift to the world.
Ultimately I think politics is a total fucking shit show though. I think the political left and right we see today are very far shifted away from their origins. In the end I just accept that a lot of the people in positions of power got there by behaving in certain ways which tend not to make them the most altruistic leaders that we kind of need right now given all the problems we face. Additionally I don't think the political process, or the economic reality we have today lend themselves to the kind of long-term planning we need as a species to intelligently manage ourselves and the planet we inhabit.

Be what you want to be just know that world doesn't cater to anyone. life is life. you'll die and nobody will remember you in say 20 years. just like all of us will be forgotten. females have the ability to give birth and men have dicks that's life. if you feel like you're more male than female or vice versa you have to remember biologically you were born a certain way and it's okay to want to change that or to do whatever you want with your body or whatever just don't be tumblr about it.

The issue is that you think too much. Being feminine one day and masculine the other day is okay or not 'feeling like a gender' is ok. But then again, how do you 'feel' your gender? Your gender isn't an emotion. Gender identity is a way of expressing yourself. But what is not okay is that people are now starting to think that being GNC makes you have/be a different gender. So ironic to see that the same people complain ab labels on clothes and that kind of stuff, but then they start creating even more labels bc when they wear 'man clohtes' they suddenly have a different gender?? Where did the tomboy girls go to? Or isn't that special enough anymore?
Don't get me wrong, I believe in non-binary, but only if you have dysphoria (having a discomfort with you secondary sex characteristics). Your gender isn't a trend and it's not something to 'explore'. Feeling or wanting to be masculine/feminine doesn't change your gender, it is how you want to express yourself. Wear whatever the fuck you want, cut ur hair, let it grow, do 'boy' things, do 'girl' things, but stop creating those labels and then go complaining about how society puts everyone 'in a box'.
You were born a girl or a boy (or intersex), but how you choose to express yourself is up to you. And you don't need those labels to do that (and for sure not if u are gonna claim that u are trans bc u are GNC, that's just transphobic).
I have a feeling that people are creating those labels to fight against stereotypes, little to they know they are only creating more stereotypes.

personally, I believe that gender is based on dysphoria. I believe that genders such as non-binary exist, and are a major part of the spectrum. like you said feminine and masculine aren't genders, but if someone feels like they are dysphoric towards certain masculine or feminine quality about themselves I believe that is valid. I think that finding a label that makes you feel comfortable in your body is great,. sex and gender are separate things and there are definitely more than two genders. but they should be based around dysphoria, not personality.

    • @shmeet
      @shmeet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

Dysphoria? Do you know what "gender dysphoria" was renamed from? Gender Identity Disorder. They just up and deleted G.I.D. from the manual like...30 seconds ago and stuck "dysphoria" in it's place. But both are listed under Personality Disorders.

Being male or female, categorized by biological sex, it's not even...there's absolutely nothing there to think about or to feel anything, good or bad, about. To use those words you just used in connection to being categorized and labelled a man or a woman, based on biological sex, is so far out of the realm of reasonableness i don't know what to say. That's just plain weird. If that's really how you see things, then i'm sorry, Rod, but you've got something wrong happening in your mind. Something is very wrong. What you're feeling is not shared with 99.9% of the global population. I think you have the best intentions, but there are some things that you said that are just completely not true such as when you said that there are only two biological sexes. Yes, there are only two binary sexes, but intersex people exist. Trans people are also not changing their gender in it of itself. Their brain has always been that gender. They’re changing how they present and in some cases, their body, but they are not changing their actual gender. I do think your comments are more out of ignorance and not actual hate, but I did feel the need to say something.

    • @shmeet
      @shmeet 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Lets look at a few of the most commonly known intersex conditions that ppl typically bring up to use as proof that gender is a "spectrum" and see if they affect men or women. (please do the same searches i do below to verify what i'm telling you.)
How about the XXX sex chromosome? Is that going to be male or female? Let's see what modern medicine says about it. In google i searched for - xxx sex chromosome
1st result listed: "Triple X syndrome, also called trisomy X or 47,XXX, is a genetic disorder that affects about *1 in 1,000 females. Females* normally have two X chromosomes in all cells - one X chromosome from each parent. In triple X syndrome, *a female as three X chromosomes."* - © 1998-2020 Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research (MFMER). All rights reserved. (at bottom of the page)
How about XYY? Same search term except for the yy . googled - xyy sex chromosome
1st result listed: "XYY syndrome is a rare chromosomal disorder that affects *males.* It is caused by the presence of an extra Y chromosome. *Males* normally have one X and one Y chromosome. However, individuals with this syndrome have one X and two Y chromosomes." - Copyright ©2020 NORD - National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc. All rights reserved. (bottom)
XXXX? What do you think? Male or female? Same parameters as before... xxxx sex chromosome
1st result: "Tetrasomy X (also called XXXX syndrome, quadruple X, or 48,XXXX) is an extremely rare chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of four X chromosomes instead of two X chromosomes. *This condition occurs only in females,* as there are no Y chromosomes present." - That's a Wiki page so here's the 2nd result:
"Tetrasomy X is a chromosome disorder that *only affects females* and is caused by having four copies of the X chromosome instead of two." - Copyright ©2020 NORD - National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc. All rights reserved. NORD is a registered 501(c)(3) charity organization. (bottom of page)
As long as there's a Y in the mix then technically that person is male.

Being genderfluid/changing genders is less something that people do, and more something that happens to people. I think talking to genderfluid people about their experiences would help more than doing research on your own. I don't feel comfortable calling myself anything gender related (neither cis, nor trans, nor nonbinary), but I do get gender dysphoria that doesn't really fit male or female, so I understand where genderfluid people are coming from. It's a complicated issue and talking to people on all sides is really the only way to reach some kind of conclusion.

I’m gender fluid and thank you. Honestly I didn’t want to be this way. I was honestly terrified when I figured out I was gender fluid and even then for about 3 years I was in denial. It didn’t hit me till one day I was literally sitting on the bathroom floor having a breakdown cuz my chest wasn’t flat, my voice wasn’t low enough, and overall I was too feminine. That day all I saw in the mirror was boy, boy, and boy. However a few days later I was back to being a girl with no dysphoria at all sitting there doing my makeup. I never wanted to be this way, it just happened and it’s still continuing to happen. Tbh if I COULD choose, I’d want to just stay a girl and not have to deal with dysphoria on my guy days. I would love to be just one set gender and not have to be confused or get hate on for what I am, but that’s just not going to happen.

Poppy Thank you. There is a lot of misinformation about the non-binary genders and every person experience their gender differently. I realize many people are hypersensitive about their gender so caution and tact are most definitely advised. However, there are people who are more than willing to discuss their gender. Also, while many LGBT+ centers promote leftist ideology, they help those struggling with their gender. Therefore, they often have staff trained to answer gender-related questions and/or pamphlets discussing gender identity.

    • @thetruthseeker4771

TupTup18 Thank you for asking. Nonbinary is a umbrella term for anyone who does not identify as completely female or male. For example, there are people who identify as neither gender (gender neutral), a combination of genders (bigender, genderfluid...) or a completely different gender altogether (third gender). I hope this helps.

I know it's starting to be an old comment but I thought your comment was very interesting and true so I'm hoping you will answer. I think this bracelet thing is ridiculous btw. So : I was wondering, as you refer yourself as a transguy, how can you say that you can't change your biological sex ? (Even if a sex operation it's not 100% perfect, you still can transform yourself no?) I mean, if genders don't really exist and we could all express ourselves without thinking oh this is what a women does and im a man so im a demiboy or whatever ; how do you feel about being a specific sex ?
I think that instead of creating more labels for gender identities, we should just anhiliate them and like you said, there would be no more transgenders because they could express themselves (with the right amount of self love and support) in the "gender way" they want even if it seems in contradiction with their self. I get that.
What I don't understand is how do you know your transexual (and not transgender) ? How do you know that your sex isn't right ? Could we apply the same logic with gender ? I know being transexual and being transgender is totally different, , but I just don't understand how you can feel that you don"t have the right sex, if we consider that genders dont exist, there is no peer pressure... What makes you want to change your genitals in that case ?

Dysphoria. Some people have it. You feel like you aren't in the correct body. Being called a female when you really feel you are meant to be a male is an example of a time someone would feel this way. Even looking in a mirror is a mountain to someone while for someone else it is a bump in the road.

  • @rowanstuck9009

I may be only young but I disagree with this video. Although I commend you expressing your feelings to the matter through a video that was calm, collected and with some good points unlike some distasteful memes you will find on the internet about it, gender fluidity has a lot of layers to it. I am questioning when it comes to gender as I can get extreme bursts of dysphoria and yet other times feel the exact opposite and sometimes I just feel like I don't fit the boxes and that's perfectly normal to do so. I don't identify as gender fluid as of now (I don't want to come out to people only to realise it may have been a phase) but I do feel more comfortable when I am in the middle. I have contemplated getting surgery to seen more androgynous or getting a hysterectomy because I don't always feel like I fit in with my female body and it's not just a feeling of masculine characteristics it's a thought of looking in the mirror and thinking I wish I was a guy, or I wish I didn't have these certain female features. But then other times I will look into the mirror and think, I wish I had a better figure, I wish I looked more feminine, I wish my chest was larger, etc. It severely damages my self confidence to go out feeling as if I could sink into my boots due to these thoughts and it's a repetitive thing. I understand how people feel about pronouns in gender fluidity and I understand where they're coming from. One of my very close friends is gender fluid and their pronouns change all the time, and they have two different names to be referred by which makes it very confusing. I suggested the wristbands or bracelets to them and they think it's a good idea and would consider it but they don't own those types of things. I, personally, would prefer that if I were gender fluid to be constantly referred to with they them as it will avoid most confusion but I would not get offended if referred to by anything otherwise. How you perceive me is not something I can change because my control only reaches an extent, and I cannot swap between genders with surgeries as not only am I afraid of surgery (good luck to me) but I physically can't get that many surgeries depending on how I feel and that's why must gender fluid people feel the need to dress according to what gender they feel most inclined to (I'm not sure if that's the best wording). Even so, that's just my two shillings and until I actually make a decision on my gender identity personally this isn't my fight to fight, no matter how much I feel the need to fight it. If you've read this entire thing, thanks for being patient and I'm welcome for any notes or criticism.

+Bryan Byrne they're not changing their gender, they're trying to change their biological sex. You're genitals aren't the only thing that make you male/female it's also the chemically and hormones in your body and brain. Gender is how society sees how a certain sex should act, such as the identity of the sex. Sex is what's actually in and part of your body. We try to corollate the sex with gender, trans do the same so to try to fit with the gender they'd feel, they change they're sex as well.

shmeet Yeah, for the they describe what we are, like how people are BIOLOGICALLY born with different brain activity that changes how they identify (He/Him, She/Her, They/Them are the basic ones, most others are just.... y'know, people thinking they/them isn't singular when it is).
Buuuut basically the rest is fucked. Your pronouns aren't based on your body. Biology? Yeah. You're born trans and such. Physically? Yeah, fuck no.
Your genitals don't dictate how your brain works and what is comfortable for you. Do some research.

Jessica Knight Yo! I agree on all your points except one. They/them is not used to identify a singular person, rather, a group. The fact that there is no pronoun to identify a singular person without it being gendered is what I consider to be a flaw of our language. I guarantee you any English teacher, or really anyone who has studied the language for a while will tell you this. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's why ze/zey pronouns are a thing. I've asked a few professional opinions on this, and they say the best you can do is to switch between saying "her" and "him" constantly without sticking to one. So, saying they is technically incorrect, yet it is understandable since there are no other ways to say what "They" conveys. Sorry for calling you out, But it just bothers me whenever people claim this is correct.

I do agree with you on the fact that however the feelings of "masculinity" and "femininity"may change, they do not express gender. But I, as a gendeffluid person, must say that my gender really does change. I experience dysphorua when I feel like a man (I am biologically a female) and don't experience it when I'm female. I kind of automatically text with the pronouns I identify with at a moment. And the reasons why one might need a bracelet to point others to correct pronouns is the gender changes usually don't occure periodically, but randomly. It' not a decision whether I am a female or a male. It just happens randomly. Sometimes I am one gender for three weeks and then it changes each day. Sometimes it's hard to fathom whether I'm male or female, because, since I am not out to my family, I need to use female pronouns regardless of my gender when talking to some people, and I get xonfused as to whether I am actually a girl at a moment or is it just my mind keeping the "act" going. Especially, since at these times, even if dysphorua occurs, I am not sure if it is geniuene dysphoria or just me trying to force myself to choose a gender. So then I just use whichever pronouns I like and again, any pronoun pins or bracelets could be useful. Because in my native language we have masculine and feminine suffixes, I just usually talk and my friends catch up with my preferred pronouns. But I undertand that in english it's not as easy.

what I don’t understand about this whole debate is the hypocrisy. when they go around screaming ‘oh gender roles should be abolished’ yet they inadvertently reinforce gender roles? for example, people have fought for years for equal opportunity for gender expression. for example, a woman who is passionate about cars, or a man who decides to stay at home at look after children. It just confuses me how it seems to be the logic that ‘oh i enjoy football, I must not qualify as a woman, i don’t like long hair so i must not qualify as a woman’

I will respect your opinion as long as it doesn't deny or disrespect other people's opinions, why can't you do the same? Leave this person alone and keep your opinions to yourself.

@@jboyj7822 idiot, 🤣 science says that epigenetic, genes that everyone has makes people trans, gay etc
In cis people they are turned of, genes
      For example
turning of can happen with the red hair gene (and other genes) so that will make it so they don't have red hair
That's true science, biology and facts

@Dee Brown You can look male, female and in between.
Then you can look masculine, neutral or feminine.
To be male you don't have to be masculine or have male genitals
because gender is different to gender expression which is different to sex.
Being gender fluid is when your gender changes, eg male to female,
but you may not be able change the look of your gender so frequently so *looking feminine or masculine may be the only option that they have*
Getting surgery, hormones, different clothes doesn't make you more or less trans.

Hello I am genderfluid, so some days I feel like a male but then maybe the next day, week and or hour I’ll feel like a girl. And sometimes I feel like I’m non-binary. So my pronouns are she/he/they but today I feel female
Edit: never mind I came out as trans 🕳🧑‍🦯 (I go by he/they now)

@@rosebud6116 gender is different than sex but yeah XXX isn’t male or female and XXY isn’t male or female, they’re intersex, glad you knew! Because the typical male and female chromosomes are XX and XY, those don’t fit because they have that extra one. Also gender has been acknowledged by scientists to be completely different from sex. It has to do with your brain and how you feel about yourself, for example they took brain scans of trans people and trans women had brains that matched up with the brains of cis women and vice versa, their brain scans didn’t match up with their sec because those are two different things.
