Hi Ruby I worked in the MINT from 1964-1966. We use to go to the top of the new hotel and watch the A bomb test. We could not gamble in the Mint so we went next door to the Horeshoe. We stayed in the Horsehoe hotel all 8 rooms in the original just above the casino on our honeymoon in 1969. Really enjoy your videos.

Thanks for sharing. You aren’t much older than my dad and it amazes me how different the world you grew up in was. Men and women dressed up wearing hats, pensions, home owners, happy just having a job. The rich actually paid taxes, humble parents, land ownership and people lived off it. Now my generations goal is to travel and enjoy the world while we are alive. My best friend just died. Nothing matters more knowing you aren’t promised tomorrow. Traveling is my passion. My friend didn’t get that luxury. Id rather die happy then miserable with money I didn’t get to spend… You are the last of the great generations that no one will ever see again. I’m happy you grew up when technology didn’t matter and people did. My dad doesn’t even like using a phone. I never understood that. He retired and never called in ever. Never late. Sacrificed for his kids. I only wish he understood that we grew up in a different world then he enjoyed. We have things harder. Gone are the times where only men needed to work. Less jobs and benefits. Less buying power. I am lucky to have my dad. I will always have a home to go to when he’s gone. I’m lucky to have two awesome parents who loved me. Not everyone gets that luxury. .

The worst thing about the rooms is that the insulation in the floors is so minor that you can hear the casino and even hear conversations people are having downstairs. Still way better than the original rooms at Golden Gate though. The diner hidden in the back by security is a hidden gem. The hot sandwiches are a great deal.

No closet with hangars in a hotel room is kind of bizarre. I agree with Ruby's suggestions about the casino too as far as pushing the classic old school vibe and history.
I honestly didn't know Binions hotel had re-opened I thought it was just a Casino now. I also assume since she didn't mention it that they don't give you access to use another hotels pool since they don't have one.
$250 is way overpriced for that room even on a prime weekend. I know it's in a good location for downtown but the place basically has no amenities.

There was a really tasty late night steak for a few $, and the food from the deli counter was just as good as the delis in LA. Don’t even get me started on missing the delicious cinnamon babka. Chase is on the $10,000. Mainly they were used for inter-Fed transfers and eventually the Fed took back the bills. And yes, so much fun to go to Whiskey Liquor Up sit at the rail and people watch.

I enjoyed my time once my room was available. I had been told "early check in" was available but it wasn't. They suggested I leave my bags at Bell however that is at the far side of the 4 Queens and for me impossible to navigate. I am disabled and sat at the sports book for 2 hours waiting for a room. I remember back when they announced they were going to re-open the Hotel Apache part of the hotel and announced that it was going to be for those who wanted an old school downtown hotel experience (i.e. divey motel in the 70’s) I knew they would end up looking exactly the way they did. It’s too bad that Binion’s doesn’t have a hotel tower that could be renovated into an old-school Vegas luxury hotel using an amazing throwback Vegas brand like “The Mint” that would add a cool and interesting vibe to an ailing property downtown. Oh wait…

    • @felixsoheili1154
      @felixsoheili1154 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Apparently they wanted to use the Mint Tower. Problem is there was alot of asbestos and the building was not even eligible to be gutted because of the crumbling structure since it closed in 2008. For the longest time homeless were breaking in and stealing shit out of the walls and rooms. As much as it would be cool to have the tower back they would have to take the entire thing down and rebuild.
Though 4 Queens is finally renovating the North Tower in 2024 so hopefully that will be nice.

I could see bottles, used needles, old clothes, etc. Had to wait til the next day to get moved. About 40 years ago, wife and I ate dinner at Binion's. They advertised a steak dinner for $6.99, and it wasn't bad. They kept the price low because the cattle used came from Binion's ranch.

Hello Ruby! Love your video along with your detailed descriptions as you go along! I'm a new subscriber, so I have a lot of catching up to do on your previous videos. Have never stayed at Binion's before but used to stay at "The Golden Nugget" often! Love hanging out on "Fremont Street"! Thanks again! Robert /:-)

We did the hand in with the fish at Sea World in San Diego. What a bizarre feeling. Ruby, you and Mr Ruby should have tried it. The fish on my hand gave a buzzing vibration feel. I was so scared that it might be painful, but it was just a nice relaxing vibration feel.

I had a great Reuben sandwich at the Binion's deli, Breakfast at the cafe, and several drinks all comped from their casino game app. last October.
I wish they hadn't discontinued the rewards.

My hubby and i stayed thrre a couple years ago and all kinds of creepiness , fire alarms going off with announcements to leave the room & called the desk they knew nothing about it. Cold spots in our room, knocks at the door and nobody tgere! We almost checked out!

The major thing I’ve noticed looking for places to stay in downtown and being there a few times: almost every casino needs to redo their rooms, or just tear them down and build new ones. I couldn’t fathom paying $200+ for that room!

Excellent video Mrs Ruby thank you so much. There was an excellent computer game in the late '80s/ early 90s called Binions World Series of Poker. It was an awesome game. You checked into Binons and you could play slots all the table games Keno etc, but the main event was World Series of Poker. Keep having fun Mrs Ruby, always enjoyabe. Oh I didn't know binion's had a pool I'm going to look online and see what it looks like.

$250 ??? Wow, you are right there is no way I would pay that. You could have been in a nice room across the street a the Nugget. Thanks for doing this one. Now I know.

My mom was good friends with Benny. Let me just say, you never ever ever acted like an idiot in his establishments. He took care of an issue she had, and he was loyal.

Stayed at Binion's early 2000s before the remodel. They did have two elevators, and they walled off the elevator that went straight to the gaming tables, not sure why. It was one of the best amenities they had..ha

My wife and I stayed there about 8 years ago in what appears to be the same kind of room as yours. We thought we were staying in a haunted hotel. If you like antiques and a lack of luxury, then Binion's hotel is the place for you! Great video, represented the place well.

Back in my Navy days (mid 80's) I was stationed in San Diego. I used to get a $25 round trip plane ticket on PSA from rec services and vouchers for $15 per night at Binion's. Free drinks, cigarettes, and I usually got comped for meals. $2 blackjack and 25¢ craps. BTW except for the TV, the room looks the same.

Hi Travel Ruby and Mr. Ruby..., History ! ! If only the walls could talk... Over the years..., we have lost count of the number of people that have ( died ) at BINION'S Hotel Apache... Even "Stu Ungar," the World Series of Poker Champion, died here... Including Benny Binion's son, who died here or at his home in Las Vegas... As you..., I do ( NOT ) recommend staying at Binion's Hotel Apache or even stepping inside its doors... Some of the important historical items have been ( removed ) and that is sad within itself... The cheap room was always a cheap room, and I would stay somewhere else on Fremont Street. Excellent video and very informative, and thank you for sharing the video... " Semper Fi " Mike in Montana :)
