South African women are actually super complimentary to each other! When I lived in the UK, I would often compliment other ladies and people told me that was super uncool and weird and I had to stop doing it! Whereas in South Africa, we are always starting conversations with each other :) That said, I love Brits and I loved my time in the UK. You should come to SA - you will receive kind words galore, haha x
Lauren Setterberg I love that! That's the exact same thing that happened to me when I moved to North America. Some people had a smile on their faces when I complimented them, others just looked at me in a weird way and walked away. LA is a little better, there are conversation starters and sometimes it is coming from other women as well, but not always.
When I saw that people reacted in a bad way, at first I stopped doing it. Then I thought about it and decided; if I don't give a compliment to someone when I feel like it, I won't be true to myself, so I still do it. Whatever everyone thinks of it is another story 🌞
Lauren Setterberg I didnt know that it was uncool to compliment? Everyone appreciates compliments and they put a smile on everyone's faces. It's so cool that women in your country love complimenting each other! I feel that women need to this more instead of tearing each other apart
Hi Lauren I'm from South Africa as well and this is sooo true! You can walk into any shop and the sales ladies will always have something nice to say to you and go to any bar or club and girls will compliment one another! One of the many reasons why I love this country
weird if people have said its uncool.. it might be unusual in many countries but i would never say its uncool if someone complimented me out and about.

Hi Lydia. This is my first time commenting in one of your vlogs, even though I've been consistently watching them for the past year and a half. I love your style and how genuine you come across. I'm a 49 yo Chilean teacher, mother of two teen boys, so one might think that we have nothing in common. However, there is one thing, I'm a cat lover through and through, our 3 cats are our life. And that is why I'm writing today, please don't get the rhododendron. I know you said the soil is not good for growing them, still, don't get that plant, they are utterly poisonous for cats. Their little bodies can't deal with the poison and they can develop severe kidney problems or even die. Your Lumi and Lynx are so precious, I would be devastated if something would ever happen to them.

You can have rhododendrons in your garden despite that you don’t have the right soil. Just remember to dig out a hole 40-50cm deep and 80 cm wide and fill it with special mix which you can buy. In fact, they love pretty acid soil and more enshadoved places especially under the trees. The are really beautiful. Good luck if you’ll try 😄

Lydia, you may want to double check the instructions on the Poopurie -type drops.....the brand I’ve used is spritzed into the water in the bowl before you use the toilet. The essential oils ‘ trap’ the odours underneath the water’s surface.
