    I work at Penn Station and our managers are very strict about gloves. If the GM isn’t there, the managers might forget to wear gloves, but we used tongs for the meat. We don’t touch it. We weigh the meat in a bowl, and cook it. They used to have it where we didn’t need to wear gloves but we have to now, mainly for cleanliness and the fact that customers will see, and possibly give a bad review.

    I worked at Penn station for 4 years. We never wore gloves unless making a non grilled sandwhich. We touched onions and mushrooms with hands but the meat was ALWAYS picked up with pinchers, never picked up raw meat with our hands

    I worked at penn station here in Ohio for 3 years. The only time we handled food without gloves is BEFORE it went through the oven. And yeah it does kill all the bacteria. Nobody is touching the steak or chicken either. The only “uncooked meat” we would touch is the lunch meat.

    I worked at Penn Station in Canal Winchester for over a year. Never put gloves on once. They taught us that before the sub goes into the oven, it is handled entirely without gloves. After it comes out of the oven we do not touch it

    After getting later on in the video I would also like to tell you that EVERYTHING has to be washed and wiped down at least twice a day. Around 6:30 we do this thing called flipping and I've only worked at one food service franchise and I dont know if it's normal for all stores but flipping is taking any and everything that's in a container and taking out the contents and putting them into a new container. During the flip we have to take one set of the tools we use to wrap and wash them and then bring them back as soon as we can then taking the other set back and wash those then let then dry until after we close. I can also tell you that we do wash everything in hot water starting with one sink that's filled with soapy water then rinsed in hot water by itself then rinsed again in hot water that we put these little blue tablets into that aren't bleach but have the same affects of bleach. If nothing was wiped down or the floor was dirty then that's the specific store and doesnt speak for all locations.

    I work at Penn station. We only touch the food before it goes through the oven. After If makes the topping Station, you can’t touch it with your hands. Wearing gloves doesn’t make anything more sanitary, as you still touch money, floors, ect. We wash our hands continuously if you don’t like it stick to places that wear gloves to make you feel better even though it’s not better.

  • @NoahFrogg

    I work at penn station, we all wear gloves apart from one person who is allergic to the gloves we have. We sweep the line whenever we aren’t in a rush. We wash our hands whenever we take off our gloves. We wash our aprons weekly and get new ones monthly. We wipe down our tables when we aren’t in a rush. And we gotta wash our hands and put on new gloves if we touch our face. The only time we don’t wear gloves is if we run out and even then we’ll send someone to go but a few packs from Kroger. We get complaints all the time especially during rushes saying our store is dirty. We can’t do anything about that during a rush because usually we have 5 people working. Two on grill, one doing bread and taking order, one wrapping, and one cashing out and getting orders out. We try our best to be clean and penn station doesn’t deserve the cap you give us

    you might as well never eat at any restaurant ever again. professional chefs don't wear gloves. Have you ever seen Gordon Ramsay wear gloves? He handles raw meat all the time. They are constantly washing their hands, it is pounded in their heads. I have watched this many many times.

    • @WhatTravisSays
      @WhatTravisSays  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Stephanie Adams Ah, but you see, that's the thing. The employees handling my food were not washing their hands. And I'm sure Gordon Ramsay doesn't handle his phone, wipe his hands on his clothes, and handle already-cooked food with raw meat on his hands.
      And I'm sure my experience was an isolated incident. But that doesn't mean they deserve any more of business.

    I work there and the sandwiches are thrown through an oven and it kills all of the germs. Most of us wear gloves anyways. Also the only meats that we handle with gloves or without are the deli meats that are precooked already. The chicken and steak is raw and we have to use tongs for those.

  • @ArchOfWinter
    @ArchOfWinter 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I've seen some places where people wear the same gloves that handles money, raw meat, and cooked products. It completely defeat the purpose of gloves.
    So cleanliness and food safety isn't about wearing gloves or not, it is about the procedure between handling different things.
    If properly managed, it is cleaner to not use glove if you wash your hands in between every step. It may even prevent cross contamination depending on how and when you wash your hands.
    I've been to sushi places where the sushi chefs doesn't use gloves at all and have a proud A health inspector rating and seen places where the worker wear gloves but people avoid for their own safety.

    I am a manager at Penn Station and we wear gloves for the grill and when we put the sandwich in oven but we are not aloud to wear gloves when catching sandwiches, cashing people out or dressing/ wrapping sandwiches we use a flipper and tongs so we don't touch the food if someone does touch your sandwich with bare skin they are not doing it properly in almost all Penn stations except for certain counties/ states that don't require gloves

    "Uncooked" the "uncooked" meat is like ham, Turkey, pepperoni, salami, and other meats like that, the only raw meat is chicken and steak. You also use tongs while handling both of those meats.

  • @m3owcaboose529
    @m3owcaboose529 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm currently working at one and to keep it short if a sandwich is cold gloves are mandatory but if the sandwich is going to be grilled gloves seent required because any germs that could be on the meat are going to be killed off either when grilled or going through the oven. If you dont think it'll kill off any of the germs you can put your hand on the grill and you'll find out that your skin will be dead including the bacteria :)
    PS if you asl nicely for employees to wear gloves they are required to do so, be sure to ask BEFORE they start weighing out your meat. If you ask halfway through we have to toss the whole thing and end up wasting food.
    PPS I cannot speak for everyone at ever store in America but the only place my hands have been is the food and the hand sanitizer dispenser and I have the dried out skin to prove it.

    Same thing happened to me, I asked the guy why he was not wearing gloves and he said they don't have to until it hits the heat oven and after that they just wrapped the paper around the sandwich, I said, Cancel my order and walked out ! No need to freak out, just walk out ! Worse is at JJ's when they are wearing gloves, sweeping the floor, and then put the broom down and ask what'll you have? I say, I'll have you put on new gloves before you touch my food and never go back there again. especially to the drive through window where you can't see what they are doing with their gloves on.

  • @LadyUnicornEJG
    @LadyUnicornEJG 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm sure there are others who would be as bothered. The lack of gloves wouldn't be a huge issue on their own - keeping hands clean and not handling other things until they'd been washed could be an alternative - but gloves make the situation easier. But...since when is _raw_ meat on a sub? Seriously, I've never heard of that...every meat I've seen on sandwiches is cooked first then sometimes "cooked" again to heat the sub, never raw in that part of the process. That in itself would change how big the bacteria issue would be, given the kind of problem raw meat can actually be and thay any temperature required to actually _cook_ meat would in fact kill bacteria.

    Sorry about your bad experiance,I recently stopped at a Penn station,They dont seem to get much bussiness,for one they are in a bad location,no big signs,but heres what I didnt like.
    I ordered a Ham with american cheese,mayo.
    That isnt getting cooked.
    I ordered a Reuben which was cooked.
    And a med fry.
    The frys looked good but then i noticed he stirred them up with the old ones and I never thought about it.
    How they weren't really busy, when I got home.
    My Rueben was fine.
    But the Ham and American had pieces of cheese that had been exposed to are about inch of it.
    And it was sticking out of the top of the sandwhich.
    They would havw been smarter to just discard the exposed part of the cheese.
    I never went to this one before.
    And i said that to the manager,and she said I hope you have a good experiance.
    Then she walked to the back and let them finish.
    Its in my area,and I live in Ohio.
    But It wasnt that great to really give it another try.
    Jersey Mikes is just down the road.
    Subway refrigerates the cold side.
    Shame.I really liked the different types of sandwiches they had.

    I never worked for a chain, but when I worked for campus dining in college, we had to change our gloves and wash our hands all the time. You touch your hair or face? Change your gloves. You had to help at the register? Change your gloves. We weren't allowed to use our phones behind the line, but you break the rules and text? Change your gloves. My nails were always brittle, but at least I know I wasn't contaminating food!

  • @aidenlosh9518

    They do wash hands constantly. Often stores don't require employees to wear gloves because after the food is grilled it goes through a 375 degree oven which, yes it does sanitizes the food, then the last employee(s) to handle food don't touch anything without tongs of through paper. The health department checks the store every time some whiny person like you complains and they never find anything wrong.
    So in conclusion, yes, yes you are insane.

We had to wear gloves. People would stare me down while I make their sandwich😂 I don’t blame them, I do too. Who wouldn’t wanna wear gloves after dealing with raw meat?! I ate a Penn Station Sub this week and I know the manager at my local Sub Shop and they scrub their hands when I walk in the door, if they don't, they know I will email the owner. They even slice my bread with a new knife from the kitchen. Plus, I informed them that I am OCD and have a weak immune system so they tell the cashier to stay on the money and the phone duty and the rest of the staff handles the food. I don't even see them scratch their heads when they whip up my sandwich. I too emailed and I also called the owner and strongly advised them to get gloves in the place. If they do start wearing gloves their sales will increase. Great Video! - Hunnee

    Well, corporate will probably see this. They'll probably crack a few heads and up their sanitation game.

    National food safety standard. Gloves are required when touching ready to eat food.

      Christopher Barnes Penn Station only touches food that is not ready to eat, they use tongs for ready to eat food.

    Penn Station is disgusting. I've been to multiple and didn't even see a box of gloves, let alone people wearing them. And the food is terrible as well. D grade meat with tons of cross contamination. Absolutely foul.
