Really nice camera angles which show off the stunning landscape on a great winter day to the max; probably the best video of the upper West Ockment Valley I've seen yet seen too. Also continuity that flows nicely. Great start to the walking year. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks Trev. Dartmoor looking beautiful, Now I have retired it makes me want to sell up and move to where y father came from , which is Plympton. But as they say never say never. Great video again.
Yea i count my blessings being situated so close to this, especially during these times. Cant wait to get further afield though if I'm honest. Thanks for watching!
Brilliant to see you out on the Moors again mate. We've just moved back to London, but whilst I were living in Devon for the past two years, I must say it was your channel that made me want to get out there and experience the Tors and all their beauty - I'm so glad I did and the few times I were lucky to camp out, I'll never forget. Anyways, moving back to here will not stop me getting back and appreciating everything there is to explore and take in. Thanks for the uploads keep up the great work. All the best for 2021
Hi Richard - thanks very much for watching, and really glad that you have enjoyed our videos, and the moor, whilst you were down this end of the world. Hope the grind of the rat race isn't too stressful for you, but I'm sure that your absence will make the heart grow fonder and you will appreciate Dartmoor all the more when you do visit.
haven't watch avid of yours in a while, i wild camped a lot last year and watching this video reminds me even just watching you outdoors improves my mental health. keep it up. i'll be out wild camping in two weeks.
Cheers George. Just a shame the ending cut off so abruptly. Didn't realise this had happened... shame. I'd saved the SoN holler for the last tor of the day!
Being more local to South East Dartmoor can't yet travel to this area of Dartmoor but will definitely be spending the majority of my time exploring this area when we are back to some kind of normality. Absolutely stunning area Thanks for sharing Trev
Nice one mate! Your videos are very slick. Appreciate the effort you put in to show case the beautiful Dartmoor. I'm planning to visit and wild camp for several days when lockdown ends. Currently in hospital and your post is taking me from the ward straight to the moor. Please keep them coming with your light-hearted approach :)
Sorry to hear that your hospital bound, Dean - hope that its nothing too serious and that you are on the mend! But glad to have transported you back outdoors, if only for twenty minutes. Thanks for watching and take care!
Thanks for joining us, Anne. Always happy to share this beautiful landscape as best as I can. Obviously to see the real thing is even better but its the best I can do!
Trev, nice to see Dartmoor again can't wait to get back there myself. While I agree on your do,s and don'ts wish more people would follow few simple rules. However I believe you are allowed to stay in the same place for up to 2 nights. I've camped twice at Shelstone tor makes a great spot and worth a vlog.
Good to see you back on the moor, Trev and what a day for it! Hope you'll be able to make a more regular habit of it and get back to doing what you love. All the best.
Was just what the doctor ordered Olly. To be honest, I've been quite happy hiding over the winter, but first signs of spring and I'm dying to get back out there. Cheers for watching! Hope you're keeping well
Love this video, great choice of music. So love black tor, have a wonderful picture of my son sat on there. Love the view so much. Thanks alot for posting. How long was your walk? Thanks again
Cracking video trev. Bet you were glad glad get out. Really showed Dartmoor in all its glory. Cant wait to get there again soon. Glad you pointed out some rules too, so many people don't take notice of dartmoor rules and think they can camp anywhere, seen loads on my trips. Atb buddy and hopefully see you on the moors 👍
Yea - it was a great day to get back out there - felt like it had been a long time coming. I felt it couldnt hurt to share the rules again. It was heartbreaking to see the moor invaded and mistreated last year. ALso... I went to reply to your comment on my discussion post earlier and deleted it by accident... sorry bout that mate!
Great advice there, we must respect the land and land owners. I do worry that beauty spots will be swamped in the coming months, I just hope people behave . Beautiful shots as always .
Yea, I'm sure I'm preaching to the converted here but felt after last year that we possibly need to start spreading th word early. Cheers for watching!
Really enjoyed that video.... it’s my favourite part of the moor.... and the area I explored the most when I lived just north of Oke. Have you found the WW2 aircraft wreckage at the far end of and opposite Black a tor Copse. It’s reasonably well hidden and can’t be seen until you are almost right on it, but it definitely an aircraft. Also are you aware of the Victorian Ice Works at Sourton Tor... apparently used to flood it in winter and let it freeze, then cart the ice down to Devonport docks.
Really enjoying your Vids Trev & Nath. Dartmoor is an amazing place! Will be up there in the Autumn again hopefully. Thanks for reminding me how much I love this little area around Sourton and Oakhampton. Keep up the good work you two
That was an awfully long hibernation Trev. Welcome back buddy, good to see ypu out and about again. The East Okemont literally runs past my house.😃 P.S. I do like Shelstone Tor
What a stunning morning on the moor I think that is my favourite spot I've found on the moors to date Love a walk up the west oakment river. I have thought of one more rule to add to yours NO BLOODY SINGING 😜
Great to see you back out and so jealous as all we can really do for another few weeks is plan on a map all the trails I'm going to be ready for post lockdown! And new kit to try as well given there's not been much else to do!
Cheers - I actually have some of that route already planned but also down to Kitty Tor, Great Links and Brat Tor and back via Coombe Down. Looking forward to it now I've seen the views!
2021 starts here! Love it Trev, real nice feel about this one. We said to Nath abkut the twinkle in his eye in his recent kit video, you can see that same twinkle here too, good one you! Loved the camping, hiking and camping g hints and general advise too, well said. Kat and I were talking Darty earlier and blooming loved this video, thanks Trev ❤☕👍 stay safe and well, Ceri and Kat 🥰

It really was a great Dartmoor day last weekend! Trev do you ever bump into people who watch your channel? I wonder if it’s also worth reminding new visitors of the firing times as well as the wild camping map? Cheers Trev great one as always.
Hi John - Yea it was a great weekend to get out - and yes - firing times is very important... to mention. I occasionally meet people who watch our vids, its always great when they say hello.
Brilliant Trev. Perfect day for your first Dartmoor walk of 2021. I'm going to avoid Dartmoor for a few months after it opens up again, I think it will be too busy. I'll head for the SWCP instead. Although I may go down there once as I haven't tried the Cloud Peak 2 yet. It's been in my backpack since New Year. ATB. Josh
Yea - I reckon the whole of the South West is going to be really busy again this year - I dont blame you for avoiding Dartmoor for a while. Can't wait for normality t o resume and then the dust to settle. Take care Josh, cheers for watching!
Has the park released any info concerning the resumption of wild camping? . I'm sort of working on it being ok as of the 12th but I've seen nothing published. Great vid btw
OMG that mirror-like calm water at the beginning, I am drooling all over my keyboard...👍👍👍 BTW, I live in Exeter, does drive only myself to Dartmoor NP for day hike count as "outdoor recreation" at the moment? Yea - that shot was actually taken a day or two after this video, but so luscious I had to include it! I'm sure if you hang tight it wont be much longer now before we can travel further afield. It'll be a bit warmer then too, I should imagine! Thanks for watching!
COVID permitting , me and the wife will be in Dartmoor this summer...... I’ll give you the shout !... see if you answer 😂 Excellent channel .... refreshingly real .... ATB Tony
What a coincidence, I was just editing my Dartmoor blog on my website to include the Highwayman Pub in Sourton, from when I was at Lydford last September. Great video, stunning location. 👍
Cheers Joe - hope this video helps - there is a guide on the Dartmoor.gov page too to help you ou. Hope that you enjoy it when you finally get out and about!
Ooooh. That moor looks amazing. We haven't been to Dartmoor for about three years now. Hopefully later this year. I want to find the aircraft wreckages up there. I know of two. One at Tigers Marsh & the other on the side of the valley. 🙂🙂
Yea this was a great day, Martin. I gear there are a lot more than 2 wrecks up there. We haven't looked for them yet, either. Hope you manage to get there before too long. Take care mate and thanks for watching!
Excellent video as usual. It's amazing to think those huge chunks of rock were formed 280 million years ago. If they could talk, they'd tell a few stories.
Loved it trev, excellent. Been a while mate, I surely missed them! Footage was superb, really clear on this one! That looked one hell of a walk, if I’m honest that didn’t seem like the Dartmoor I’ve seen on TH-cam before. Reminded me of the Peak District for some reason (that said I haven’t visited either 🤣). Seemed like you really enjoyed yourself, and had a pure passion to be back out and it made for a great video. Loved the singing to 🤣. Very abrupt ending mind, wasn’t ready for that! All the best! 2021, here we come! 👍🏻👏🏻
Yea - not sure quite what happened there - the copy on my PC is fine, so not sure why but the end has got lost during upload... quite weird?! Anyway, glad that you enjoyed the rest of the video though! Cheers for watching!
Great video Trev. I’ve never been to Dartmoor but it definitely has a Peak District feel to some of it which is my local National Park. I’d love to do some walks in the Dartmoor area at some point. Not sure if you’ve walked the Peak District yourself before but I think you’d love it if you haven’t 👍
Hi Anthony. Hopefully we will get to the peak district before too long. I have always wanted to visit, had planned to do so last year... maybe this year.
Tip, when the red flags flying don't even go there, it's prohibited, the military are working up there and likely to be firing. This covers quite a lot of the north west area of the moor where their camp is based.
One of my favourite spots. That boggy section below Black Tor can be very tricky - I’ve yet to find a decent route through it. Such a shame that the moors are outside my “reasonable travel” area :-(
Yea, this is a cracking area Nigel. I count my blessings how close we are to the moors, especialllyy in the last two years. Glad that we made the move! Oh, well, not long now Nigel! Thanks for watching!
Still waiting for the first, Michael, hopefully enough of us get it to get us back to some normality before the summers out. Thanks for watching and take care.
Super clear footage Trev, have you upgraded the camera? A bit of background noise, which reminded me of your Rode Mic problems, so I had a quick look for the video you did on it but seems to be gone, has this been sorted now? Sorry about the questions but an interesting topic. I bet it was great to get back out on a proper hike again, I cannot wait to get back over the Lakes. Must admit I did not know that about wildcamping in Dartmoor, I thought wildcamping was allowed all over Dartmoor. Perfect hiking day and as a Rolling Stones fan, not sure about the singing mind 😂 but then again, why not! Perfect place to stop for food and drink too - roil on restriction free hiking and camping, cheers Alan
Same camera I usually use, but yea, this was the day of the rode mic failure. The Rode vid was a bit of a knee jerk reaction really so I pulled it down, I dont like to be all negative and I am sure its probably partly my camera input too so I am looking into the settings and whatnot! Fingers crossed I get to the bottom of it!
Start of 2021 🤞🤞😁, looks great Trev. I've only ever seen Dartmoor from your vids, it's an area I've never visited. I will be hitting the shropshire hills at the first opportunity, will save Dartmoor for another day. You had a gorgeous day for it 😁
I have yet to see Shropshire too, and most of the country as it happens. Cant wait to finally get moving once again. Take care mate and thanks for watching
Bonlourno trev really enjoyed this vid so did u by looks of it .I think the ending bit is a utube thing coz bald and bankrupt had same prob/in rules bit are woodstove cookers type fires aloud
Yea, really wnjoyed this one... glad you did too. It was a shame the ending was cut out. Something I shall have to keep an eye on in future when uploading. I wouldn't say a wood stove is ideal to be honest, I personally wouldn't use one up there. Cheers for watching!
Lovely video trevor, can't wait for freedom of the nation, I haven't finished with dartmoor and I want to explore even more and take a tor,, I mean tour. Don't worry, nothing's going to go missing 🤣☮
🤣🤣 You just make sure you do, Andy... you are free to take Cranmere pool though lol. Cheers for watching, sure you will be back here before you know it.
Same things just happened to us. Absolute nightmare, spent ages editing to make sure our new video will be up for Friday ... watching it back to check it’s all gone alright and the final 2 minutes have been cut off.
Had a camp up on Black Tor back in summer, but unfortunately didn't have the weather you did here. Good on you for slinging some advice about the camping rules though, as I fear with foreign travel still likely to be banned for sometime, we will probably see some of the crazy scenes of last year again, which sadly might lead to areas of the park having a ban.
Yea its a shame but I think you're right, too many people swarming to these places and sad how many have no idea of how to treat these places properly. Unfortunately those who need educating are probably not those who watch our videos. I would like to camp here at something but I bet Black Tor can get a bit rough perched on the lip of that valley.
Another great video Trevor. I don't know how much footage you lost from the end, but why not upload the ending only as a new video and call it 'part 2' Regards !
It’s good to go over the rules as they’re important. If people do what they want then the place will be covered in rubbish, 💩 and scars from fires. No one wants that! I love singing on the moor too, the only thing that can hear me is the wind! Good to see you out on the moor though Trev ☺️👍
Cheers Ben. I thought a recap of the guidelines couldn't do any harm... im not one yo force it down everyone's throat in every episode, i like to think that 99%of SoN viewers know the drill. Cheers for watching!
Now he just needs to learn how to pronounce OKMENT correctly! OCK not Oak!! But great to see you back again Trev and particularly in good old North Dartmoor too! It's the best bit!

I thought that was strange, also do you think a 3 man tent is too big for wild camping?
I thought it ended abruptly, I even checked that the advert near the end wasn’t paused or interfering with it lol
@@onthetrail202 if it's for two people, who can share the load it would be good, but for solo camping it may be a bit too heavy.

Yea - that shot was actually taken a day or two after this video, but so luscious I had to include it! I'm sure if you hang tight it wont be much longer now before we can travel further afield. It'll be a bit warmer then too, I should imagine! Thanks for watching!
Canadian Geese?!?! Didn't know you got them on England?! Learned something today.
COVID permitting , me and the wife will be in Dartmoor this summer......
I’ll give you the shout !... see if you answer 😂
Excellent channel .... refreshingly real .... ATB Tony
Haha! Let's hope you make it here in the summer... I'm sure you will. I'll keep an ear out for you! Cheers for watching
Awesome video, superb edit Trev 👌
Won’t be long until the camps start up again and we can be out properly
Not long now - I think I will be mid week camping for the time being until the crowds subside.
@@SummitOrNothing yes, that sounds like a solid plan I will follow suit or head to more remote location not accessible by car
What a coincidence, I was just editing my Dartmoor blog on my website to include the Highwayman Pub in Sourton, from when I was at Lydford last September. Great video, stunning location. 👍
An interesting pub that. Great place to kick off a stroll on the moor. Cheers for watching.
Beautiful
Cheers! The moor was looking good too, huh?
I'm new to wild camping and want to try and get it write thanks for advice 👍
I know... amazing isnt it! (The history that is, not the video lol.)
Yea - Good point well made! Cheers!
Nice vid mate
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers!
Nice to see you out and about lovely video wish i was there just about had it with lockdown just wanting for second jab 🙏
Awesome pal 👍
Thanks for watching!
Yo trev
Im trying to decide on a water filter system....do you have any preference bud?
Cheers
I use the sawyer mini - the spec is really good on that one and reasonable price too.
Cheers
Bonlourno trev really enjoyed this vid so did u by looks of it .I think the ending bit is a utube thing coz bald and bankrupt had same prob/in rules bit are woodstove cookers type fires aloud
Yea, really wnjoyed this one... glad you did too. It was a shame the ending was cut out. Something I shall have to keep an eye on in future when uploading. I wouldn't say a wood stove is ideal to be honest, I personally wouldn't use one up there. Cheers for watching!
great video mate
Thanks very much. Glad that you enjoyed it.
Nice editing 👍
Cheers Harry!
Another great video Trevor.
I don't know how much footage you lost from the end, but why not upload the ending only as a new video and call it 'part 2'
Regards !
It was literally about 30seconds, Brian. Just a holler from the top of sourton
@@SummitOrNothing .. but surely folk would have liked the footage of "The Beast of Dartmoor"
Ah well, maybe next time 😀
It’s good to go over the rules as they’re important.
55 seconds in and an instant thumbs up for pronouncing Sourton correctly.
Now he just needs to learn how to pronounce OKMENT correctly! OCK not Oak!! But great to see you back again Trev and particularly in good old North Dartmoor too! It's the best bit!
Ive got one right!!! Yaaaayyyy!!!!
D'oh!
Hello trev how's it going. Have you have any SoN key rings and pens and anything similar for sale
Hi Paul - we do have a spreadshirt page where we sell merchandise - feel free to have a look through mate! - shop.spreadshirt.co.uk/summit-or-nothing/
Thanks trev
epic
Thank you!
Couple of other things Don't park like a idiot and control your dog's that means on a lead. Great video far end of meldon feels like a amphitheater
Great points Josh! Thanks for watching!
