    Glad to hear that there is a new detachable radio at a fairly cheap price, of course it's made in China. But I held my breath knowing there were some unnecessary bugs. I found out from you and from the comments. I hope there's a revised version in the near future, and I'd be happy to buy one for sure. Thank You.

    Just picked this up yesterday. I was disapointed when I discovered that it wasn't on CHIRP yet. Manually programing is not something I enjoy,BUT, I did follow your video and got my local repeater installed. Got a great signal report and had a 10 minutes QSO with a friend. You can hear the fan and it did get warm but not hot. Have a female club member and she got one also, on my recomendation. I'm sending her the YT info and hope she can get going too. 73 see you on the radio.

      @chrissewell1608 funny you should ask. I got great responses on TX. Sounds great on rx. It's so small it got lost on my computer desk, literally. I have to find the program cable and load up some more frequencies. One day I'll have it back in the truck.

    Beautiful device and good audio quality transmission and reception. However, some bugs when the device remains in stand-by for a long time, strong signals are no longer received and the audio in transmission becomes very saturated and inaudible. The fault disappears by starting the device again. It's random but I encountered this problem twice in three days of testing. The programming software also has bugs, some settings must be made from the radio such as the display of the channel name which is not taken into account from the software... I hope that the firmware can be updated on this model...
    Power output measured compliant 22W VHF and 25W UHF.

    Thanks for the Video. I believe you would only need to go back and save the tx frequency if you wanted to have a nonstandard split.. I've been able same my memories by just setting the offset shift and direction. Thank you for pointing out it does not allow you to overwrite a memory. You need to delete the memory and then save again if you make a change. Agree that I would love to see CHIRP support. I may just see if it will work with setting for any other of the qyt radios that are supported by CHIRP.

    I received my KT-5000 this week and started testing. I've noticed some problems. It seems to be with low sensitivity. The squelch does not open with weak signals, it is necessary to leave the squelch at 0 to receive stations with "NORMAL" signal. The radio has time that restarts on its own. The power measured in non-radiating load does not reach 25W as promised.

    If QYT still has the same mic cable?, you can build your own mic extension cable using Cat 5 / 6 data cable, and RJ-45 plug ends. I had remote mounted my Yaesu radio, years ago, which has similar wiring. You can really make a custom install, with a remote head and mic. Throw in an enternal speaker, and you can remote it up front too.
    If its a dependable radio w/ no problems, and has Chirp programming, I'll buy one. (I am using the QYT 8800D now, and it rocks, for the money!)

    Thanks for your review. I gotta say when I seen that the microphone couldn't be attached to the faceplate when separated from the actual radio, so with me, I'm out as far as this radio. I think they should of thought about being able to attach the mic like other radios that you can just mount the faceplate and place the radio body under the sear or behind where you're sitting.

    My old yaesu FT-7900 has Mic connector at control head, but they Yaesu re-designed to Yaesu FTM-6000, Yaesu made same mistake by placing Mic Connector in Main unit. AG6JU

    Thanks for the nice video ! My question is: do you know a way to limit TX frequency range to HAM bands only ? Chirp is not supporting this model yet, and I don't see any other options so far.

    • @radiotopics1874
      @radiotopics1874  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I doubt there is a way, and of course, the manual doesn't mention it. In fact, the specs at the back of the manual state that it only operates in the ham bands, which is wrong. This is just like the Baofengs, which transmit over an extended range. I think it's baked into firmware.

    The mic appears to use an RJ-45 connector. Can it be extended with a common network cable and 2-way coupler? This would let you install the radio almost anywhere. (you can also buy M-F Cat5 cables)
