- An outstanding performance of music made famous by Al Jolson, played by Robert Wolfe (Organist Goes Crazy!) on the Mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ of the Thursford Collection, Norfolk UK. The music includes:- "Ma He's Making Eyes at Me", "Is it True What They Say About Dixie", "April Showers", "My Mammy", "Pasedena", "Sonny Boy" and "Toot Toot Tootsie"

Unbelievable performance, Thank you.. No doubt about it, as good as or better than Virgil Fox.
Yes hes Utterly Gifted. Bit younger than Virgil Fox though. No probs with stiffening fingers yet. I used to take my now deceased parents to Norfolk on their annual holiday and we ALWAYS went to Thursford. We all loved it. Easier when he came north to The Penistone Paramount or M Ranch in Nottingham. We were regular visitors there. I no longer go now as i was VERY close to my folks and id find it too upsetting. My eyes prick whenever i see Robert on TH-cam
Its like comparing oranges to apples. Virgil Fox wasnt a theater organist. His favorite specialty was playing Bach. For years he was the organist at Riverside Church in New York City, not Radio City Musical Hall.
At the age of 80 - I’ve listened to organists for most of my life . I think Robert Wolfe beats them all !
Also notice.....no sheets of paper the man plays it all from the dome. Insanely impressive.
Michel Linschoten the dome is our best source of music, after all, it doesn't stop at the last page. It can just keep coming, until exhaustion and unconsciousness of course.
LOVE THE WAY HE MAKES 'EYE CONTACT' WITH THE AUDIENCE, A REAL SHOW BIZ PERSON. I ADORE THE MUSIC, BRAVO. INSPIRING, REFRESHING.
This fellow is an unbelievably talented organist!
What did we see in the world of great pipe organs and organists before YOU TUBE? I live in America and for some time the only way you could hear the great musicians on pipe organs (and many other instruments) was via recordings. TH-cam has
opened the door for anyone with an internet to search and find! Robert Wolfe is right there with other famous organists
giving the world the very best at the consoles! This offering also features an excellent video and audio recording. Thanks, Paul
Amen! I'd never even heard of a Wurlitzer before YT!
@@12799MaDeuce The electric keyboard was invented by Robert Hope Jones
of Peterborough after the second world war.. No one was interested in the U K
so he took it to the USA where the musical company of Wirlitzer took it on and
applied it to the huge pipe organs that we know today, mostly from cinemas in the
30`s. A few are left as they went out of fashion , killed by the DVD. Shame,
My wife and I had our honeymoon in Norfolk, and Robert played a dedication for my wife!
Robert Wolfe is one of the most amazing organists this country has ever produced.
I think the world has ever produced would not be an unfair assumption
And the most amazing thing is that he can't read music manuscript at all - truly fantastic.

Hi 👋
Yes I am at home waiting to see you play at your. Concert, Joan.
Felt very privileged to see him perform live must be one of the best living ………!
Is there any doubt that Robert Wolfe is one of Britain's top organists? He generates a tremendous joy when he plays. A great showman and a great organist!
Charles Jenkins more like the one of the worlds
I'm out of this world when I listen to such talent playing the Theatre Organ - the chord expansion - counter melodies - the bass footwork - the rythmic changes and tempo. WOW!
There are much things you could say about this performance, but for myself i'd just like to stay with the following words: "The BEST performance, the BEST employing of the rich sounds of a Wurlitzer i'f ever heard in my life." Just absolutely GREAT!!!
Good stuff! Just amazes me how one can move their feet fingers and all the stops and accesories on this and multi task like this!!!!
I remember see Robert at Thursford when I was 11. I remember telling my Mam and Dad that's what I want to play some day. At the time I couldn't play a note of music.. Now at 43 I can say I have played the Theatre organ at many venues across the British Isle. Even the top of the shop the famous Wurlitzer of the Tower Ballroom Blackpool. So what ever your dream, work hard and you can achieve it. So thanks Robert Wolfe. You have been my inspiration.
Craig Smit
Yes
Craig Smith Hi Craig it was inspiring to read your post. I'm a similar age group to you. I was taken to Southampton Guildhall to hear Phil Kelsall and was affected in the same way. I found it very hard to get help to play. So Robert Wolf has inspired me like Phil, but also to go down the self taught road. I think it's great that you have played so many instruments. Have you ever posted yourself playing on TH-cam or SoundCloud? I hope you enjoy many more happy hours of playing and listening to the king of instrument. Best wishes Pete
Beautiful. Hope you stay on here forever. This is therapy for me.
In a class of his own !
I wish I lived in England. If only to hear Robert Wolfe!!!!
This is terrific memories, as a kid of five years old , my mother and father use to sing these great Al Jolson songs. The organist is wonderful. Thank you
Robert is the best! I have same pair shoes myself. ! Will look at this video again and again!
That pedal work is BEYOND amazing!!
Great! Could listen to Theatre Organ music all day, especially when played by the artists in the play list.
Just Brilliant
What a wonderful performance! Theater organs are a special breed of pipe organ.

I never tire of watching and hearing this piece - I listen to it every night before I go to sleep !

Robert is one of the finest organists of this generation in direct line of the masters of the past. His choice of registrations is superb and keyboard technique is quite outstanding! Bravo Robert!

WHY ON EARTH are home organs in decline? This is beautiful music, played with skill, passion and immense style. You are the master of the organ Robert, and it's a pleasure and a privilege to watch and listen to you. You kids..... Watch, learn and become amazing. Playing the organ like this should be your achievable goal!
Hello, I lov your music very much much, thank you,
Hello
Keith Simpson yessir, it's on the ol' bucket list.
I think it all comes down to maintenance cost, and demand from the new generation.
I miss my theatre organ. I was, when i was young a very good performer too. I changed it for the church organ. When I hear it now.. I miss it.
I am watching this in 2024. Is this fine organist still performing?
Yes, you can still catch him in concert twice a day at the Thursford collection and at various venues around the UK.
Robert has a complete understanding of the Wurlitzer and a wonderful exponent of its many features + magic fingers !
Robert and this Wurlitzer have become one, hes the sound it makes and its the sound he makes. It's magic when someone knows an instrument to this level.
Beautyfull ,thankyou.
Many thanks
You are a great talent and treasure, sir.
Best regards!

I just discovered Robert and I love the music. So fascinated by his flying feet. Such happy music, I’m hooked. Love when he looks at the camera and smiles.

Excellent performance . . . unbelievable
Nice shoes and the tux pants look nice... amazing how he glides on organ pedels.
As a keyboard musician this has given me ideas to doing an Al Johnson melody so thank you fpr the tips up 👍👍
This is magnificent - heard Reg Dixon at Blackpool when I was very young. The technique and sound are up there with the old maestro, especially the beat behind the tune of "Mammy"
A wonderful post.

Just Amazing

.
Delightful
Gosh bring back wonderful memories. Thankyou Dee . PS. Lovely hair 😊😊😊😊😊
Without doubt one of the finest exponents of the theatre organ today. My old organ teacher would to go beserk when he heard theatre organs. Said they could not play two notes without sliding between them.
Absolutely wonderful A1!!
Just great. Wonderful style & great to sing along :)
great! I love your organ playing .
love it so much, I don!t know what to say!,,!!
Hi hello hello
the organist is very good. His attention.
To the keys and feet are tremendous.. thank you.
You are just amazing I've never played an organ with a predalboard (just very badly and only two manuals) and I'm frankly amazed by your footwork- its so fast. I didn't realize human being's feet could do that -lol.
Lessons and lots of practice is the best method. If you can play two manuals, you can play 20. The more you have, the easier it becomes as you have somewhere to go for different sounds.
@@OrganMusicYT Well, you see the trouble is (and you weren'i to know this is that no amount of pracctice would help much now, because some years ago I went down with multiple sclerosis - and even my very limited skill on the manuals has gone away for good now. You were not to know.
@@john3775 I'm very sorry to hear that. It must be very frustrating. That said, I've had plenty of practice and I'm still no good haha
@@OrganMusicYT like I say mate YOU WEREN'T TO KNOW, so don't feel bad about it , eh. OK (it is bloody frustrating- like you I practiced a LOT (about an hour a day back in the early seventies) (I learned to read music (least I can still do that!) and spent ages on fingering , and I guess I wasn't TOO bad on the manuals- but I had all ten fingers giving of their all back then. Multiple Sclerosis happened- I still have ball ten fingers but they just don't give of their all any more. Nowadays I have to play a qwerty keyboard synthesizer on a keyboard fitted with a keygaurd (a sheet of metal over the keys, having one hole per key - and I have to play only monophonically (that's not the instrument at fault, my coordination is only up to one note at a time but at least I can still just about play a melody learned from sheet music- and I still very much enjoy listening to truly great players like Mr Wolfe- so although things could obviously be a bloody sight better, they could also be a bloody sight worse.
Well done. The playing, the song selection, the organ and the recording/video are all very good.
great organist
Nicely played in the Blackpool style.
81 years young love it! C
Hello Hello
woo
:
m
merry Christmas and the best for the up coming new Year, The best to you.
P
He must have more than one brain. Absolutely wonderful music.
Just one brain with 10 connected fingers not only the right touch but
second touch as well all at what must be UK's finest organ proving organs can be installed elsewhere from.the original home
Gordon Exmouth
wonderful!
The man sure gets busy sometimes!
Robert must have learnt it since childhood.
A nice organ and I really like his style. Is this Blackpool style? Very different from what a lot of theatre organists do. I love it!
Yes, it's Blackpool style, though each "Blackpool style" organist has their own take on the style.
@@OrganMusicYT He's very good. extrodenary.
Not only talented but "great looking". What more do you want?
Superhuman.
As one other organist observed, "Seventeen separate simultaneous brain functions are required to play a theater organ successfully". Theater organists must be benevolent aliens from outer space ! Or Gods (take your pick). You are all awesome !!!
