- Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan looks at the deciding Game 11 in last year's World Championship match. The game only reinforces Carlsen as a future legend.

Magnus Carlsen vs Viswanathan Anand, Carlsen-Anand World Championship (2014): C67 Ruy Lopez, Berlin defence, open variation
Yasser is like the Bob Ross of chess
+ 1, stefan reich.
joseph morton yes, totally!!
that was exactly what I was thinking!
Bob Ross is the Yasser of painting, more like
"I start looking around the board asking my pieces 'How are you feeling?'... and the knight on f3 answers, truthfully, 'I'm not sure - I think I'm okay?' "
Love Yasser.
Yasser is probably the greatest chess teacher I have ever heard. He is a world apart. Awesomeness,
rayof 315 Yes its the sign of a great teacher. Many great players are very poor teachers and many average players are really good teachers if they have good material. Yasser is that rare exception, a great player who is also a great teacher.
He is very smooth and easy to understand, but a wee bit too slow in the delivery... and he could make better use of the computer screen rather than walking up to the projector image. As for teachers, I'm finding Jerry from ChessNetwork and John Bartholomew's channel great for learning as well. Both are articulate and their pace is balanced.
MSK Chess
rayof 315 sometimes funny as hell? Always!
i agree the others uses gm logic they think some moves are obvious but he's really good
His voice is so calm its like taking a valium. He speaks eloquently.
+Iamatreee yeah I don't think bot being born in The United States has anything to do with it! Probably him being raised in America has much more of an impact on the kind of person he's become!
+kelly white "not"
+tmasdlog Yeah. I like it, but it takes slightly longer for him to speak sentences
+tmasdlog his smile creeps me out though
+Priyesh Goel sorta,
Gosh, how can you not love the way Yasser teaches? He has all the gentle charisma of a dad teaching his son how to ride a bike.
I'm a big fan of Yasser, too--I was introduced to him through his book "Play Winning Chess." It really helped my game by teaching the fundamentals in an easy-to-understand illustrated format. I'm still not a particularly strong chess player, but his book made me a lot better than I was before!
In a world where most never had a dad he makes them feel protected and loved !
Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan has such a beautiful personality and energy-love how he carries himself. Really enjoying this video- thank you.
Ever since buying GM Seirawan's 'Winning Chess Tactics' back in the mid 90's, I've had a deeper fascination for chess. I appreciate his thoughtful teaching and in this video he shows great insight. Thank you Sir.
The Mr. Rogers of chess. Good lecture, though. I actually understood a lot of the ideas behind a world-class game and watched the whole thing, even though I'm a noob.
I could watch GM Seirawan talk about anything. What a great personality and and teaching style!
Great job, as always, by GM Yasser Seirawan! Spot-on commentary and engrossing story-telling about this deciding WC game... Just as enjoyable as it is instructive... And don't miss the little anecdote at the end where Yasser relates how Carlsen spurned Vladimir Putin during the awards ceremony! Priceless!
I use this guy's voice to sleep every night. I sleep like a fat, happy baby, let me tell you.
I must say I really like Yasser's in depth analysis. It's incredible how much thought there is behind simple looking moves. Keep it up from Switzerland, I am looking forward to every new chess video uploaded from you guys.
best YT chess teacher ever ... miss your videos Yasser
How on earth isn't there a legend class about Kramnik yet?
A very underrated world champion!
Cause nobody likes Kramnik, as a person…
@@slylataupe4272 no? why? he's clearly not the most charismatic guy, but there have been many champions with much more off-putting personalities. and even so, i can't see why it should matter much from chess perspective. not unlike on the dance floor, we don't appreciate those people for being the nicest guys on Earth, but for their moves.
Great Job Chess Club .. Please keep on posting chess games for legendary players .. You are flourishing chess life - peace 💚
It would be a real privilege to listen to Mr. Seirawan in person. He has such a calm and alluring way of showing you a game that it is never boring. A real gentleman and I thank him dearly for holding this lecture.
Very instructive! And lectures of such high quality! Thanks St. Louis Chess Club for making it public.
I just found out that Yasser's mom was a Cheshire Cat. Why am I not surprised?
His smile
Hhhhhhhhhh lmao
I first saw this video a little over 6 years ago - I've loved chess ever since. Thanks for the fantastic commentary, Yasser is the best.
Fascinating and instructive analysis of world championship level chess by GM Seirawan.
TY CC&SCSL for supporting these videos.
I remember this being one of the videos that got me back into chess in 2018. Now I’m about 2100 and my otb is 1920. Cheers Yass, what a fantastic teacher.
Really enjoy these. Such a humble guy.
Yasser Seirawan explaination of chess positions are pure gold. I learned so much. Thank you!
In a really good day you are not playing Carlsen.
21:30 Moving the king to C3 to support the pawn also turned the disadvantage of the blocked pawn on E5 into an advantage, such as that the black squared bishop would like to see that pawn gone now instead of being happy that it blocks the way for white's pieces.
Another masterpiece commentary by Yasser Seirawan!! Chess is so beautiful!
yasser was a great player in his day. he has scored victories over karpov, kasparov, everybody
I just must say how much I Love your voice, how inspiring you Are thank you
Hey Chess Club, I just wanted to say thanks for these great videos. All of your lecturers are very informative and entertaining. I'm learning a lot.
amazing lecture....I learn so much from watching Yasser Seirawan's videos. Thank you so much!
Seirawan gold incoming! Love these videos! Tell ***** to get someone to help him with his personal channel too need to see his face in his videos.
I love this guy, such an Amazing energy
Idk what's weirder, the fact that you randomly capitalized a word or that you didn't capitalize energy instead.
The Legend: Yasser Seirawan - GM Magnus Carlsen
Yasser is great - GMs Akobian and Finegold are also brilliant.
WELL! By pointing out all chess fans, he basically pointed out Putin :D That is his problem he didn't want to be pointed out "basically".
Awesome videos by Seirawan. So affable temperamanet! Love it.
that moment he asks all the pieces how are they feeling really got me :D
Great lecture by Mr. Seirawan. He's a first-rate presenter.
"b5.... wow!" lmao i love this guy
Yasser is one of the best chess analysts imo (along with Jan Guftason, Varozhan Akobion, and Kingcrusher) explaining in a straightforward and clear way the players thought processes and reasoning throughout the game. A far cry from some sites where the supposed "analyst' basically just rapidly recites the moves.
GM Yasser Seirawan is a wonderful lecturer and teacher. I hope that in the near future he would also write some books on how to improve our own Chess games. The few books that he has written are absolute jems.
yaseer's teachings will be remembered for ages to come
Watching GM Yasser explain chess really brightens my day
Yaz and GM Ramirez are AWESOME lecturers .
The guy isnt a pandit,he is an artist.you just lost the game and like go to heaven of chess with very beautiful voice.thanks maistro.
I watch his lectures every night it’s like asmr hopefully I won’t wake up a chess gm one morning
yay, Yasser is back!
Just discovered this channel. Became an instant fan. Wish you were back on chess.com, to watch you play live.
He brings life in chess with his lectures
love the way he teaches!!!! Almost watched each and every of his video!...
at 1:01:12 there is another error, the h pawn once moved is a giveaway for black's bishop and can be taken with impunity
this guy's books are great too. i read his book on tactics and another on strategy. They are among the best in the business for a novice player.
Well, since 2014, we can see that Magnus did a very good choice by not supporting Putin's propaganda at the WC match' closing ceremony in Sochi, Yasser was talking about at the very end of the lecture :)
Thank you Yasser! By the way, I bought your books back in the day ("winning chess tactics, winning chess games)
I'm 14 and I bought some of his books. I learn so much even though it's so basic.
GamersUnlimited321 R. Ploplis I use to be 14 until i turn 15 this year.
That's cool
XD
I love Yassier's commentary.
I've made 20 exchange sacrifices in my games, 18 were unintentional. Such a treat.
Interestingly enough in the live-coverage Peter Svidler and Ian Nepomnatchi always looked at the counter ...b5. It was mainly Ian who suggested this move a sevral times unless Peter said let's stop it, it's not going to happen. Just in this moment Anand played ...b5! xD
I wish I could go to StL to see one of Seirawan's lectures. He's amazing.
Not sure if he still lives there or not, but he was just doing commentary on behalf of the StL Chess club for the English Open earlier this week!
Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis at 32:33, after Nf6, what about the variation : Nxe5 , R/Nxe5 , Bf6 thus eliminating white pawns advantage on the Queen side with a tempo (if rook takes)
Chess club Saint Louis, please, could you improve the quality of your videos? I'd love to watch em at 720p. The experience would be way better. Thanks
hackmigueluc We will return to high definition in the coming months when we move to our new classroom.
Perfect. Looking forwards to it. I wish that when I went to SL I know about the chess club.
please upgrade to 4K yasser's nosehairs are not fizible.
Maf Ian Ha, funny.
lol, closing is HILARIOUS
Yes, Yasser speaks slowly, quietly, everyone has time enough to understand. Nowdays everyone hurries, and finally it is difficult to learn well. You want to go fast ? Go slow !
very easy to follow analysis, could be instructive to all ages.
Why is the best move Bc3 at 42:40? I know taking with either pawn is bad, but is Bc3 preventing something specific? What if you simply do not take either pawn and did other moves?
Btw, thank you Yasser! You are such a great instructor and charming person.
Love for the game is the key to learn it to others, this guy surely does.. Like it a lot :)
That's a pleasant lecture to hear.
what? 1 hour chess lecture video, you must be kidding me right??? this must be a very boring video
one hour later...
what? i actually watched this video until the end. i didn't even realized that an hour has already passed,,
Obviously you didn't read all of his comment carefully.
was this a reply to a comment that max ellis deleted? lol
I watched a hole video on pawn structures what a great teacher
It blows my mind both players saw that c5 move. Thank you sir, for your incisive analysis and for your time spent preparing this class. You have renewed my admiration of those few called 'gentlemen.'
If I had to choosing between this video watching and a Peter North solo video I would choice this video's everytime!!
What a great teacher Yasser is!
Speaking of precise opening moves, in 2020 Stockfish 12 seems to prefer 5. Re1 to 5. d4. and slightly prefers 9. Rd1 to 9. h3
شكرا جزيلا لك فلقد اشتريت عده كتب شطرنج من التي كتبتها وهل من الممكن ان العب معك ؟
its really irritating that he keeps pointing out the moves on the projection we cant see it and im sure hes blocking the projector too wish he used the computer to show the moves
I wish Sir yasser teach us more chess like this...:-)
I cannot understand how deep positional play works. And I'm stuck at 1800s elo. Can anyone refer me to resources that might improve my game?
I am a novice chess player and wish there was an overview of taken pieces..
BRAVO !
I was watching at 1.5 speed, but I had forgotten. After a while, x1.5 speed feels terribly slow.
*Reason to watch this video*
A GM analysing the match - 1%
That GM is Yasser - 99%
Incredible teacher!
I just love the Yasser's aura
A quick note for Mr Seirawan..............It can be difficult to follow your reasoning, for us Internet users, if you point at the out-of-shot chess board when demonstrating your thought processes, rather than using the computer to create arrows and highlight squares.
Yours
Andrew
Although I do realise it's probably counter intuitive for you to teach this way!
If you play Yasser's lectures at 150% speed, it sounds like he's speaking at a normal clip.
couldnt see what you were pointing to behind the screen
Trying to settle an argument, what colour are the non white squares on the board?
Very cool, I can't understand anything cuz I have problems concentrating, but seems like very good content
I don't see why with the infamous b5 white HAS to capture. Why not just let black take and retake and then those disastrous exchanges just don't occur.
9:00 we can't see what Yesser is pointing out. Why don't he just demonstrate it on the computer instead of pointing into the projector which is blocked?
@37:13 instead of pawnb5, why not pawn c6 kicking the knight?
BEST TEACHER EVER!
Hi! I'm a beginner. I don't understand why at point 1:02:28 blacks resigned. What about bishop B4 check pushing white's king away from pawns? Unfortunately this option is not explained on the video. If someone could show me the light...Thanks in advance.
MrAravai I see now white can capture whit the king b3 pawn. Damn!
Would love to learn from this guy.
Yasser's voice is silk on qualudes
I just figured out why I like Yasser. He's the Mr Rogers of Chess.
Veridicus Maximus Bob Ross
@35:43 after knightd2, what if black plays h5?
Could you not play b5-b4 at 42:30? Then c7-c6?
Yasser is the best person I've ever seen
your camera angle is bad because when he gets up to explain and point out on his screen I can't fallow as well
# very important QUESTION PLZ Mr. Yasser .. Why it has to be a while square on the right bottom corner of the chess board as we set it up ??? Thx plz try to answer it I need to know I appreciate it allot and God bless you
It is an arbitary rule. The board must always start in the same configuration.
Great video
Yasser's voice is like warm honey.
