Freaks me out every time, as well. And I've seen that film well over 100 times. Ever think Charlie went home and explained what he did with the roast? Or did he take a bus out of town, so his wife won't find him.
The USS Indianapolis story happened. It was taking components for the atomic bomb and sank when hit by the Japanese. The survivors were stranded in the water and picked off by sharks that were brought around by all of the commotion. Terrifying.
@@CampCrystalCharlie The U.S, Military kept the story under wraps until long after the War, instead scapegoating the Indy's Captain McVay for the incident. Jaws got Steven Spielberg on the iconic directors map. Without Jaws success, he would not have made, Jurassic Park, ET, Saving Private Ryan, nor Shindlers List.
I love how Brody said the mother wasn't wrong saying what she did to him. It's one of my favorite parts of the movie. Even though he easily could've blamed the mayor and would've been justified to do so, he took the "Buck stops here" position. No matter how the decision to keep the beaches open was made he felt it was ultimately his responsibility to protect that boy from harm and he failed to do so.
Chief Brody is one of the greatest "everyman" heroes of cinema. Small town cop taking on something he never could have imagined. In the book I think Brody only had the Chief job because of the wife, she was rich and from there and had connections that got them from NYC to Amity. They're plan was just to chill out there, live a quiet life and raise the kids but the shark came and he had to man up and take care of business despite his fear of the ocean.
I learned about the USS Indianapolis story in history class here in Ireland when I was 11 or 12 in the early 1990's. It surprises me that younger Americans are not taught events like this in school! You're the only nation that has used nuclear bombs in war and this was part of the timeline.
There seems to be a deliberate effort to keep each generation a little dumber than the one before. I think my generation was the last to learn civics, which troubles me greatly.
I don't remember learning much about WW2 in grammar school or high school. As a child, I was fascinated by the tanks and planes of WW2 - my grandfather was a tank commander on Iwo Jima - and I avidly read about the War from an early age, but I didn't get much official education on the subject until my college years. I hesitate to think how little the generations following mine are actually taught about the pivotal event of the entire 20th century.

Can I request a reaction to An Officer and a Gentleman in honor of Louis Gossett Jr? He passed away today and he was the first black man to win the Oscar for best supporting actor.
Terrific pick. Or, should I say, "Wait to go, Paula!" Enemy Mine is another great one, which is Gossett's favorite movie of his ... although he is unrecognizable in it.
@finishin.my.coffee8780 Loved that movie! Although, Dad and Gossett's character would be imprisoned and dishonorably discharged for allowing a civilian to fly a military aircraft. Tom Cruise couldn't even get the "OK" to pilot a F-18.
2024 is the 49th anniversary of JAWS!! I was 10 when I saw this film in 1975. It has stood the test of time. The book by Peter Benchley, is a MUST read. Spielberg knocked it out of the ballpark!!
“Coffee” refers to the flavor of ice cream the little boy wanted his mom to bring him (in the hospital). It was pretty popular back in the 70’s (when flavors were a little simpler than today’s seemingly infinite choices).
Spielberg did a lot of movies in different genres, including several of the greatest movies of all time, including Jaws and The Color Purple (the original version).
You two are fantastic together. Love watching reactions with the two of you 🙂Jaws reportedly invented the term "summer blockbuster". We use it all the time now, this film created it (reportedly took $100 million during its run, in 1975). Quint's "Indianapolis" monologue is a legend in cinema. Not only was Robert Shaw (Quint) a phenomenal actor, he was also a writer. Now, depending on who you hear this from, the story goes he wanted to give a backstory to show why Quint hates sharks so much. So Shaw said he would write the scene. And he did. He performed it, drunk, while Spielberg filmed it. The crew and Spielberg were so mesmerized by the performance, Spielberg didn't say "cut". They only stopped filming because they heard a "clicking" sound. The camera had run out of film.🙂 And the Indianapolis story is based on true events.
@@CDRhammond Dumber than smashing the boat's radio? Dumber than forcing the Orca's engines, leaving them stranded dead in the water? Dumber than trying to land a 30-foot great white shark by rod and reel? What was Quint's plan? He didn't have one. Only at the end, when it was too late, did he think about drowning the shark in the shallows, but, HE DIDN'T HAVE A BIGGER BOAT.
For the record $3,000 in 1974-75 is about $20,000 today in 2024; $10,000 is $63,000 today. And that's why Quint smashed the radio, he wanted the money.
@@jtoland2333 I figured Quint for wanting bragging rights for getting the shark. And the money for himself of course. Calling in the coast guard would deny him all that.
Shark attacks on humans are rare, but there are some steps you can take to reduce your risk of being bitten: Avoid certain times Don't swim at dawn, dusk, or in the dark when sharks are most active. Also avoid swimming right after a storm. Avoid certain areas Stay close to shore and avoid murky water, deep channels, and waters with known discharges or sewage. Also avoid areas where people are fishing, especially if there are signs of baitfish or feeding activity, like diving seabirds. Avoid certain behaviors Don't swim if you're bleeding from an open wound or menstruating, as sharks can smell blood. Also avoid harassing or trying to touch sharks, and don't wear shiny jewelry or bright colors, as they can resemble fish scales or shark prey. Be aware Look for signs that a shark might be near, such as circling birds, splashing water, or feeding seals and dolphins. If you do see a shark, try to keep it in sight and slowly swim backwards towards shallow water. You can also use an electrical pulse device (ESD) to repel the shark.
Great white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) are one of the most feared predators in the ocean due to their size and reputation. However, there has been much scientific research conducted to try to understand their feeding habits. So, how often does a great white shark eat? To answer this question, it is important to understand the factors that influence their feeding habits, such as their size, species of prey, and habitat. Studies have shown that great white sharks typically feed every few days, but the amount and frequency of their meals can vary. For example, larger sharks tend to feed less frequently than smaller sharks and prefer different types of prey. Additionally, their habitat may also have an effect on their feeding habits. By understanding the various factors that influence a great white shark’s diet, we can gain insight into how often they eat. Great white sharks are known to prey on humans, as well as other animals. Great white rhinoceroses are frequently regarded as eating enormous quantities of food every day due to their large body size and weight. It’s a question that should be asked in depth because it involves the amount of food they consume. A great white shark can weigh up to 1500 to 2500 pounds, according to estimates, and its maximum weight can reach 5000 pounds. According to observations, sharks typically consume between 0.5 and 3% of their body weight in the course of hunting. They must wait a few days between meals in order for their bodies to digest the food, The great white shark is the world’s most lethal shark, with no rival in terms of hunting capabilities. well expect for Killer Whales, but let's stick to the sharks here. Their powerful jaws allow them to decimate any sea creature they come into contact with. Humans, on the other hand, are not their favorite food source. White pointers prefer marine mammals with a high protein content. As apex predators, sharks play an important role in the ecosystem by maintaining the species below them in the food chain and serving as an indicator for ocean health. They help remove the weak and the sick as well as keeping the balance with competitors helping to ensure species diversity. Without sharks as apex predators, the entire ocean ecosystem could fall out of balance. They not only maintain the species below them in the food chain, but also indirectly maintain seagrass and coral reef habitats.
I saw this movie at the NJ shore when it opened in 1975and have watched it many times since. However, it feels like I'm watching it for the first time seeing viewers experiencing the movie for the first time. The both of you did not disappoint. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The comment about Brodie's wife laughing at Hoopers jokes... in the novel that the film as based on they ended up having an affair and then Hooper does not survive the shark hunt!
I read the book several years ago. I remembered the affair but I did not remember that Hooper didn't make it. Yikes! I understand why Spielberg left out the affair. It didn't add anything to the story. In the book I kept waiting for something else to happen and it never did. I guess sometimes people just got a bump uglies and not tell anyone. 😂🤷♀️
@@DianaWoods-n7r Yeh, in the book the shark got him in the cage and the description of him realizing the shark got him is still chilling to this day. On top of that the shark surfaces with Hooper's body in it's mouth almost taunting Brody and Quint. Brody fired a shot from his gun, missed the shark and shot Hooper's body in the neck. I think they filmed Hooper getting killed by the shark but rumor is that test audiences liked him too much to see him die so they cut it and reshot him swimming away then coming back at the end.
In the book, Hooper is this young, handsome, athletic shark expert. I prefer Richard Dreyfuss' character who is smart, short, fuzzy and funny. He was much more likeable and endearing than the Hooper character in the book. Which is probably why you didn't mind him being eaten by the shark in the book 😆
The theme for "Jaws" is iconic, building upon the similarly iconic theme from "Psycho." As for the $3000 reward initially offered, that was approximately the price of a new car. The actor playing the newsman on the beach is actually the author of the novel, "Jaws." Beer cans in the 70s had switched from steel to aluminum, but it was a very thick aluminum compared to the tin, barely there aluminum in cans of today. Thus Quint was showing his strength by crushing the can in his hand (difficult for men to do).
Facts: 1) The monologue that Quint gives about the USS Indianapolis, is based on fact. The USS Indianapolis was an actual ship that was torpedoed by the Japanese and no distress signal was sent. A lot of the survivors who made it into the water were killed by sharks. 2) As a result of the shark frenzy this movie caused, a lot of sharks were hunted and killed. To this day both Steven Spielberg and Richard Dreyfus will only go ankle deep in the ocean water. They have both said worry the sharks would be out for revenge. PS.. I would highly recommend watching the making of the movie (Jaws). It’s really interesting.
Fun facts: the shark was mechanical and rusted and needed repairs alot, so footage was hard to film, so things like the disappearing barrels were used to show you where the shark was. The producers thought the movie would fail because of that. Actually, not seeing the shark more often became more suspensful, and one reason the movie became a huge hit.
Indeed. The way they worked around the fail prone mechanical shark was a masterclass in movie making. The lack of an onscreen shark for more than half the movie ended up adding to the tension and horror when it finally made a full appearance. This is one of my top 10 favorite movies.
Coffee ice cream. That's the kid's favorite flavor. The shark is so big, the current from its movements pushed the little boat over, knocking the 3 kids into the water.
It's not just New England. Coffee ice cream is a popular flavor across the United States at least everywhere i've been. Nothing beats a bowl of coffee ice cream with chocolate syrup on it! Yum!!!
Well that's cool to know cause everyone I talk to outside of New England looks at me like I have 5 heads when I say coffee ice cream. Coffee milk is the official Rhode Island state drink as well lol ;) @@DianaWoods-n7r
Spielberg didn't do Back to the Future or Carrie. He mentored Zemeckis and pushed for the ok for Back to the Future after Stoltz got fired, but he didn't work on the movie. Carrie was done by a different legendary director, Brian De Palma (did movies like Scarface, Mission Impossible, Blow Out, and The Untouchables)
Steven Spielberg Produced Back to the Future. Zemeckis and Bob Gale (co-writer) took their script to Spielberg who ultimately set it up through his Amblin Entertainment with distribution through Universal Pictures. As a producer, Spielberg (and his team of Marshall & Kennedy) develop the script, flesh out the characters, help attach talent and once principal photography starts, be there to put out any and all fires that may start (and there are always issues / problems / “fires” on a movie set). Robert Zemeckis directed based on his and Bob Gale’s script.
@@ckrowne Zemeckis scrapped the script for the movie. Spielberg is notorious for reading scrapped movie scripts to spark his own ideas, which is what happened. Zemeckis thought it would be too difficult to make with a small budget, so Spielberg pulled strings behind the scene to make it happen. He only put his name to give that credibility because Zemeckis was a fairly new director at that time so studios wouldn't have believed he would make a profit
I've gotten the real life jump scares seeing the real animals suddenly breach out of the water. Biggest jump scare so far however came from a 14 foot long tiger come in for food right over my head in the Bahama's. @@tenjed4224 Yeah, Shaw and Matthau were great in that movie. One of my favorite 70s movies. Real gritty New York City. Washington is a great actor, but I am not partial to the remake. I like the original better. Maybe because it reminds me of NYC when I was I kid at that time.
Watch “E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.” It is directed by the same director of “Jaws” and it is lighthearted instead of scary. It has a great storyline and it is also funny.
I love the story line of the animosity between Quint and Hooper. their different points of view. Quint hated sharks ever since the Indianapolis and was old school as far as hunting them. Hooper loved sharks, part of him wanted to study this one as much as kill it. He had all the modern equipment available, even the means to kill it, all of which Quint resisted out of pride. it was a huge swallowing of pride when Quint asked Hooper what he could do with this stuff.
I once read somewhere about the difference between horror and terror. Essentially, it boils down to believability. Fear of an unrealistic, or fictional, threat (a vampire, werewolf, zombie, Godzilla, etc.) is horror. Fear of a real, legitimate threat (a shark, tornado, serial killer, etc ) is terror. That's an oversimplification, of course, and there can be some overlap between the two, but that's why Jaws is probably more accurately described as a thriller, rather than horror (although it has some horror elements).
I'm highly enjoying this reaction. This film was traumatizing for me as a kid but now it's one of my favourite movies. The second one is OK but 3 and 4 are laughably bad...
If you wanna do a Spielberg movie watch, you'll be watching movies for days, he has directed or executive produced several different kinds of movies... Everyone gets the mayor's motivation wrong. He wants to conserve the town's economy. Its true, in a town with only three months in a year to make money, 24hrs IS like three weeks! For him to not consider the economic damage would be as irresponsable as ignoring the shark. And, yes, he wants to keep his job. My theory is, he was in denial and hoping the shark would just go away. And it took his kids being in the same danger as everyone else to wake his ass up. Im not defending him, but pointing out that he isn't the flat, one dementional charactor people think he is. His problem is complicated.
Indeed. You've got it, and the mayor is merely the front man. Others were involved in the cover up, from the coroner to the newspaper editor. As you say, he was trying to keep the local business owners happy. They were whining at the town meeting about the beaches being closed so he nervously says "only 24 hours". I don't understand why people think it was just the mayor acting on his own. The old guy he tells to get in the water was involved with him. He's on the small car ferry and also sitting at the desk at the town meeting. He was complicit. That's why he tells him to get in the water.
JAWS FUN FACT: Copy/pasted from the trivia section of the IMDb JAWS page. "Several decades after the film's release, Lee Fierro walked into a seafood restaurant and noticed an "Alex Kintner Sandwich" on the menu. She commented that she had played his mother many years ago. Jeffrey Voorhees, owner of the restaurant, ran out to meet her. He had played her son, and they hadn't seen each other since the original movie shoot."
I love your reaction to one of my favorite movies of all time. But now I have to defend real sharks and object to your title. Sharks are not brutal. Not in the way you meant it. Yeah, they eat things like fish and seals, but they're no more brutal than a lion or bear. With regard to humans, sharks are nothing like you see in this movie. In 2023 we had 36 shark bites with only 2 fatalities in the entire US, all year. Compare that to the quarter of a billion people at US beaches last year. But sharks are at every beach, all the time, often swimming just yards away from humans in the water. Just do a search for sharks swimming near humans. You'll find hundreds of videos. It's very chilling to see how many sharks are swimming right next to us. But still only 36 shark attacks. By comparison, 58 Americans were killed by dogs in 2023, compared to only 2 killed by sharks. How is it that 250 million people played in shark-infested beaches without more attacks? Because sharks don't eat us. They don't even want to. A shark is as likely to eat you as you are to eat a raw rat. We're just not appetizing to them, we're definitely not on their menu. Every shark attack is a mistake or self-defense when humans are grabbing or poking at them. What Jaws did, hunting people, eating people, staying in one place to eat more people (sharks feed and then swim away; it never happens that one shark bites two people at the same beach, and definitely doesn't kill 5 people at the same beach in a week). Plain and simple: this is a monster movie, not a shark movie. Jaws acts more like a psychopath with a machete at a summer camp than like a real shark.
Spielberg didn't write Back To The Future... he was executive producer. His production company Amblin pitched money for tons of family movies in the 80s and 90s. Basically his name helped them at the box office.
Quint’s speech about the USS Indianapolis back in 1945 was 100% true. That was the largest shark attack in history. Over 800 U.S sailors were killed by sharks in the Pacific Ocean. Some died of dehydration but most were killed by sharks. They were out there in open water for over a week just floating & hoping someone would find them. Their mission was to deliver Hiroshima bomb, so it was a secret mission & not on the books. So none of the higher ups knew to look for them when they never came back to port. That’s the reason quint broke the radio was because of his experience on the USS Indianapolis. Quint hated sharks because of what happened to him & never wanted to admit defeat. His story rivals the story told in the novel, “The old man & the sea”. Lastly, to truly understand why people love this movie, you’d have to have been there back in 1975. Jaws is the movie that started the summer blockbuster film trend. Before Jaws there was no such thing as the summer blockbuster. Jaws came out before Star Wars. Jaws was the film that made Hollywood start making films geared strictly towards summer audiences. This made over 400 plus million dollars back in 1975. Plus, when this came out there was a massive heat wave on the east coast. Folks desperately wanted to go to the beach to cool off but were too afraid to go in the ocean. This was a time long before Air Conditioners was widespread. Back then Folks simply couldn’t afford Air Conditioning, so during the summer, families went to the beach during the summer months. Jaws made so many people deathly afraid of going to the beach & into the ocean. You simply had to be there to experience it. No movie or rather nothing was ever like this back then. It freaked out so many people. We also can’t forget that Jaws was inspired by true events as well. The Shark attacks back in 1916 in the state of New Jersey. I believe 5 or 6 people, including children, were killed in under a week. Jaws is beloved by millions of people. It’s one of the greatest movies of all time.
21:17 I'd take that woman by the shoulders turn her around and say; Ma'am I'd like you to meet the mayor he's the one who refused to close the beaches. 29:58 It's only quickly mentioned but the city council has to vote to close the beaches but the mayor won't allow it. I'm guessing that if the mayor wants them closed the council will rubber stamp it. 36:59 those tin cans are not like the cheap ones we have today. They were hard to crush so the joke with the foam cup.
There is a good example of foreshadowing in this movie that everyone seems to miss: when Chief Brody is looking through books about sharks, researching the subject, while thumbing through the books, he comes across a photo of a giant shark with a compressed air tank from a diver in its mouth. Of course, this comes full circle at the end of the movie when Brody destroys the shark by shooting the compressed air tank in its jaws.
If you're interested in another horror film by Stephen Spielberg, I recommend Duel. It was Spielberg's first thriller, a tv movie (back when tv movies tended to be good), about a man on a long commute being chased and threatened by a deranged long haul trucker. Great stuff!
Glad you enjoyed and appreciated such an iconic movie from 1975. Being 9yrs old in the theater, this movie terrified me and the nation. Spielberg, along with John Williams music kept the suspense going. Also, the shark didn’t work 90% of the the time, being a mechanical machine. So Spielberg relied heavily on the barrels to keep the suspense. Thx again. Jaws is a great movie.
I was ten when this movie came out... and for some reason.. my mother let me go see this. She died four years ago and I'm STILL mad at her. I didn't want to get in the water at a beach for about ten years.
Dang, people blame the mayor yet in the first scene the people were saying closing the beach for 24 hours is like 3 weeks. Yet we all like to blame the mayor yet he is only doing what the people wanted.
If you want to check out all Spielberg filmography dont forget to watch "Poltergeist" as well, the film that, officially, was never directed by him (only produced) but it was certainly directed by him at least partially. A funny thing about the movie: the tv reporter on the beach is Peter Benchley, the writer of the book.
Yes it's horror Jaws always comes in at number one or two best 100 horror movies of all time Jaws and the exorcist are always the top two! And Jaws actually scared more movie audiences than the Exorcist! Especially scared people away from the beaches! I remember that I was 12 when Jaws first came to the theaters I know it scared the shit out of me The exorcist didn't because I never did believe in possession or the devil where jaws with a story came from actually happened and sharks are real and demon possession is not real!
The live footage was around the cage when the shark got entangled in lines. It was shot in Australia. There's so much info on this film, look for one about the making of Jaws.
the mayor wants them to go into the water because he knows everyone is thinking about the shark, he thinks the shark is caught or swam away and wants it forgotten to maximise the $ even for next summer
I've seen a great hammerhead in water that would not even reach my knee hunting blacktips. Seeing a 14 foot+ shark in water that shallow and really moving fast will make some people stay in the parking lot of the beach. In Florida at certain times of the year you will see hundreds of black tips in water that a toddler would be in right in the surf zone. Every now and then just like with the Bahama's a great hammerhead will come right up and start chasing the littler sharks around. Blacktips get to be about 5-6 feet long a great hammerhead can get to be 20+ but normally is around the 10 to 15 foot range. imagine that in water less than a foot deep.
The thing that makes it scary is that it’s possible. Back in the 70 & 80’s people were actually scared to get in the water at the beaches. Shark attacks are real.
That scene where quint and them were drinking swapping stories, quint was actually drunk bc he was drinking real liquor and one day they had to stop filming bc he was too messed up but some of the shots were used in the movie.
With Mothers Day approaching, might I suggest movies with a strong female “lead”. (Hero or villain , or both): “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle”, “The Believers” 1987, “Fatal Attraction”, “The Grifters”
"SHe was laughing too hard at his jokes. He wasnt **that** funny." I think you're the only person in 30 years who i've ever seen CATCH that. In the book, Brody's wife CHEATED on him with HOOPER! She DID laugh a little too hard. Good catch!
Speilberg only had a few movies of note before this. Sugarland Express, and death car, which was Jaws with a car. Then he did this and Close Encounters, and his fame was set! Hooper did some huge movies, Close Encounters, Mr Hollands opus, American Graffiti and the riot, what about Bob, and Let it Ride. Chief was in a huge 80s movie, Blue Thunder, and Quint was in a Bond film Dr no, Battle of the Bulge, Force ten from Navarrone, The Sting, The Deep. This is also perfectly spoofed in Ace Ventura Pet Detective! Pro tips ...rhey had multiple issues with various mechanical shark issues. The story of the Indianapolis was true. A kid researched it about 20 years ago after seeing this movie, and got the Navy to recognize and reward the survivors and give backpay to the families of the dead. Sharks are programmed to eat fatty sleek shaped, one or two colored animals, like fat tuna, dolphins sea lions, seals, etc., so humans aren't high on their food menu. pro tip... independent theaters will sometimes on the anniversary, put a massive portable screen on a beach, reverse projection it, then u get in ur floaty, go into the beach water, and u and crowds of people watch it, from the water!😮😮😮. Years later the mom of the eaten kid went into a restaurant, and saw on their menu they had a Mrs Kitner or Alex Kitner sandwich. She goes and tells the manager, that was me, I played the woman! Manager goes back, tells the owner....the owner is the kid Alex! Jim Carey does a perfect parody of the first attack, in Ace Ventura!

That's not what Hooper said. He said he wanted an autopsy to be sure they got the right shark. Never once said he wanted to do it publicly; The mayor said that, jumping to a conclusion that it would be in public.
There was a cut of the movie I saw ONCE in the early 80s where they revealed that Quint used a frozen baby dolphin for shark bait. I have not seen it since, but I swear it existed. In the novel, the Mayor turns out to be involved in organized crime, and they won't let him close the beaches. Decades after the movie was made, Lee Fierro - the actress who played Mrs Kintner - walked into a restaurant on the same island and noticed an 'Alex Kintner sandwich' on the menu. When she mentioned to the server that she had played Mrs Kintner in 'Jaws,' the server went in the back and alerted the restaurant owner, who turned out to be Jeffrey Voorhees, the actor who played Alex Kintner. According to Voorhees, he rushed out into the dining room, up to her table and shouted, "Mom!"
Jaws was the first summer "blockbuster" and one of the first times in cinema history that a studio spent considerable money on marketing and merchandising for a film. It was the first film to gross over a hundred million dollars in domestic box office receipts, doing so on a roughly nine million dollar budget. It was the all-time box office champion for roughly two years until the release of the original Star Wars movie.

They're plan was just to chill out there, live a quiet life and raise the kids but the shark came and he had to man up and take care of business despite his fear of the ocean.
It was actually the Mayor's fault.
@@romerjusu3804 I was hoping he would have gotten eaten in one of the Jaws movies.

I wait for this confusion in every Jaws reaction.
Can I request a reaction to An Officer and a Gentleman in honor of Louis Gossett Jr? He passed away today and he was the first black man to win the Oscar for best supporting actor.
Terrific pick. Or, should I say, "Wait to go, Paula!"
Enemy Mine is another great one, which is Gossett's favorite movie of his ... although he is unrecognizable in it.
That movie is amazing and I watch it a few times a year! I hope they put it on their list of movies to watch
I loved him in Iron Eagle. My father and I saw it in the theater when I was a little kid.

2024 is the 49th anniversary of JAWS!! I was 10 when I saw this film in 1975. It has stood the test of time. The book by Peter Benchley, is a MUST read. Spielberg knocked it out of the ballpark!!
Author Peter Benchley appears in Jaws as the reporter on the beach btw
Ah, the Ben Gardner jump scare never gets old! LOL!
lol I love how you all knew and was waiting on that jumpscare 😂😂😂
“Coffee” refers to the flavor of ice cream the little boy wanted his mom to bring him (in the hospital). It was pretty popular back in the 70’s (when flavors were a little simpler than today’s seemingly infinite choices).
Coffee ice-cream is delicious; especially alongside a scoop of chocolate - - great combo!
ooooooooh now that makes sense. Had no idea a coffee flavored ice cream existed. 😂😂
Sheesh that actually does sound good
Right?!? For authentic 70’s style, make sure to pick up a pint of “Häagen-Dazs” brand coffee ice cream.
Coffee ice cream is widely available today. I buy it on a regular basis. Delicious! Especially with chocolate syrup!
The story about the USS Indianapolis is true unfortunately.
When you take a fish out of water you're drowning it
The reporter on the beach, was Mr. Peter Benchley, the author of JAWS. He also wrote THE ISLAND; THE DEEP; ECTRA.
ooooooh didn't know that
Spielberg did a lot of movies in different genres, including several of the greatest movies of all time, including Jaws and The Color Purple (the original version).
'Anyway, we delivered the bomb.' The most consequential line in a great film.
The actor who.plays " Mat Hooper " was also in " Close Encounters Of The Third Kind ".
"A whaaat?" makes me laugh every time.

I find it one of the dumbest things in this movie.
@@B-a-t-m-a-n Why I said I found it one of instead the dumbest.
For the record $3,000 in 1974-75 is about $20,000 today in 2024; $10,000 is $63,000 today. And that's why Quint smashed the radio, he wanted the money.
makes sense
That, and he needed the show down with the shark for his own, personal reasons.
@@jtoland2333 I figured Quint for wanting bragging rights for getting the shark. And the money for himself of course. Calling in the coast guard would deny him all that.
Quint is a version of Captain Ahab, he had to go crazy and take on the monster by himself.
Shark attacks on humans are rare, but there are some steps you can take to reduce your risk of being bitten:
Avoid certain times
Don't swim at dawn, dusk, or in the dark when sharks are most active. Also avoid swimming right after a storm.
Avoid certain areas
Stay close to shore and avoid murky water, deep channels, and waters with known discharges or sewage. Also avoid areas where people are fishing, especially if there are signs of baitfish or feeding activity, like diving seabirds.
Avoid certain behaviors
Don't swim if you're bleeding from an open wound or menstruating, as sharks can smell blood. Also avoid harassing or trying to touch sharks, and don't wear shiny jewelry or bright colors, as they can resemble fish scales or shark prey.
Be aware
Look for signs that a shark might be near, such as circling birds, splashing water, or feeding seals and dolphins.
Stephen Spielberg didn't do 'Carrie'. That was directed by Brian DePalma and written by Stephen King.

Also the easiest song to play on guitar. just have to hit the E and F note which is the bottom string on a guitar.
Spielberg also did " Empire Of The Sun " & " Close Encounters Of The Third Kind " among other movies.
It amazes me that there are still people out there who haven't seen this masterpiece! This is my favorite movie since childhood! Absolute classic!
I've been meaning to watch it for years but never cared much. Glad I finally watched it though 🔥
The sequels are bad. Money grabs. The original is a masterpiece of body horror and suspense.
Jaws2 is good 👍
I pretend anything after Jaws 2 was a bad dream.
Facts:
1) The monologue that Quint gives about the USS Indianapolis, is based on fact.

His name is tied to back to the future I don't know what part he took in creating the film
PS - you may be thinking of Stephen King, who wrote the novel CARRIE.

Jaws 2 is also a good movie. Loved this reaction.
Glad you enjoy. Jaws was amazing and someone told me 2 was also great. I guess I'll find out soon lol

Look up a Great White nicknamed "Deep Blue." It's the largest Great White shark known and filmed. It's nearly the size of the shark in Jaws.
One of my favorite survival movies is The Edge starring Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin.

This is my favorite movie of all time.
definitely an amazing film
That USS Indianapolis story always gets me, since its true. Ive watched a couple documentaries on it.
They were talking about drowning the shark because sharks have to keep moving to breathe

21:17 I'd take that woman by the shoulders turn her around and say;
Ma'am I'd like you to meet the mayor he's the one who refused to close the beaches.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 - Right! She definitely had the wrong person to blame xD
LOL! My man called ol' dude a hobo. "Let's see what the hobo got to say." LOL, I just can't stop laughing. Caught me off guard with that.
Hahahaha my dad tried so hard to make me watch Jaws. I see why now
The first 3 victims are a woman, a dog, and a kid. Pretty groundbreaking
I remember watching this movie with my Dad when I was much much younger 😂😂😂 this shit scared tf outta me!
They confused Steven Spielberg and King .
The live footage was around the cage when the shark got entangled in lines. It was shot in Australia. There's so much info on this film, look for one about the making of Jaws.
Whats with the sub titles? You can't see anything. Terrible way of reacting.
the mayor wants them to go into the water because he knows everyone is thinking about the shark, he thinks the shark is caught or swam away and wants it forgotten to maximise the $ even for next summer
The Mayor and the Town Council have authority over the Chief of the Police.
Stephen King wrote the book CARRIE, not Steven Spielberg.
The next time you go into the ocean, you'll hear that theme in your head and think twice before you're knee deep!
Hahahahaha right! 😂😂😂😂
They had to leave a part out of the movie that was in the book. Hooper and the cheifs wife had a affair. This is a true masterpiece, none better

Because of this movie, the term blockbuster was coined. People were lined up down the block (for blocks) to see it.
oooooh that's why it's called block buster?? lol that is fire
@@CampCrystalCharlie Yes, that is why and how the term "block buster" came to be.
That scene where quint and them were drinking swapping stories, quint was actually drunk bc he was drinking real liquor and one day they had to stop filming bc he was too messed up but some of the shots were used in the movie.
Every British actor was drunk while filming. O'Toole, Harris, Burton, you name it!
So y’all just talk all through the movie even when you’re at home? Lmao 🤣
All through it
@@CampCrystalCharlie haha 😎
Big up yourself, you both are cute lol
😍😍
Closest to a bite was from a dog my step mother said the dog wouldn't bite bit it did was only a kid when it happened.
Got a small scar on my thigh
Ouch! 😱
Ode ode late but you guys gotta react the the deep house shit strange but wild
With Mothers Day approaching, might I suggest movies with a strong female “lead”. (Hero or villain , or both): “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle”, “The Believers” 1987, “Fatal Attraction”, “The Grifters”
Great idea =D
We'll try to get to one of those, hopefully in time for mothers day
The name of the shark in the movie was Bruce.
The Captain's Story is about the mission of the U.S.S. INDIANAPOLIS
i didn't even know he was telling a real story
"SHe was laughing too hard at his jokes. He wasnt **that** funny." I think you're the only person in 30 years who i've ever seen CATCH that. In the book, Brody's wife CHEATED on him with HOOPER! She DID laugh a little too hard. Good catch!
lol I knewI wasn't tripping 😂😂
But sheesh, didn't expect that one.
Death Car? Don't you mean Duel?
Shark Went for the boy first because he was away from the crow and on the float looking like a Seal to a shark. // I had to replay you guys being shocked by the head under water in the boat ! THat was an awesome reaction - ROFLMAO //
😂😂😂😂
A Chief of police works for the mayor.
Can't believe this dudes arguing for seeing a chewed up eaten little kid get spilled out onto the dock in a mess of guts for the croud to gawk at.
that's why everyone is there.
That's not what Hooper said. He said he wanted an autopsy to be sure they got the right shark. Never once said he wanted to do it publicly; The mayor said that, jumping to a conclusion that it would be in public.
@@jtoland2333 I'm talking about the guy reacting to the movie.
According to Voorhees, he rushed out into the dining room, up to her table and shouted, "Mom!"
this how you do great reaction.
Lol, why does everyone have to cite Star Wars topping Jaws? On Star Wars videos, nobody cites ET (the film that topped Star Wars).
