In photography we have red, blue, and green. 256 levels of each. Getting realistic skin tones is a challenge especially when dealing with scans of old negatives. The additional challenge comes from bleeding of colors from reflections of colored surfaces such as walls and shining through colored semi-transparent obstacles like dense leaves. Then there is color temperature which is different at different times of the day, different cloud cover, in the shade or direct sunlight and obviously artificial light sources. In real life the eye doesn't see those differences because brain compensates for them but they become apparent when looking at a screen or a print. Some post-impressionist painters picked up on those differences and exaggerated them. In photography we just use every editing technique available, and there are many, to represent colors as seen by the eye and not as recorded by the soulless camera lens on film or a digital sensor.

So interesting, a lot of things that I did not know before. Thank you so much for sharing this, I knew about some of the info, like reflections and semi transparent obstacles, but less knowledge on films. Amazing info. Again, thank you so much for sharing.
