You don't really go any faster but your steering gets more precise and also the throttle or brake don't have to always be pressed all the way in. You can also add thrustmaster th8a shifter later on to make it even more realistic
The wheel is supposed to immerse you more into felling like your driving a car, the feed back gives you more information about what the car is doing and how its behaving, the more information you have the better your driving will be, for example with a wheel you can feel the rear tires start to slip in a corner and when they are gripping to take a corner better which equals better lap times (aka more speed) 😉

Take it to a buddy’s place or cybercafe and update it and see. Hope you have warranty.
