Being able to ride a high-speed train for cheap is simply amazing. I’m living in Japan at the moment, and I don’t think you can even get on the high-speed trains here with just €19 haha. (A comparable trip can cost something like $130 or so, and there are very few discounts or promotions)
Jr east has obligation to maintain a country wide train system and jr center is investing in maglev. It also doesn't help that in France they have high quality volcanic stone as track ballast for lgv, while Japanese Shinkansen built mostly on high elevated concrete bridge.
Great video, as always! Ouigo duplex is one of the trains that I have had in my wishlist for a long time, unfortunately I didn't catch it this year. The only thing I don't like about the Ouigo is the impossibility of choosing the seat. They should do it like Ryanair, many people would pay extra for a seat reservations. Thank you for sharing, so detailed, informative and just a reminder of how Europe is decades ahead with its public transport system than the US. Can't wait to travel again, especially internationally and now know of a great option when in France and soon in Spain.
Not until the energy costs are covered - and those costs are steep. (In the early days of SNCF, France did it with the largest nuclear energy backbone in all of Europe; since then, said backbone has been decimated - what will it be replaced with? Renewables alone can not do it - and the Greens will not let anybody rebuild that backbone of nuclear power; not even Germany - let alone France.) Do you want that big bill? (I do not hate renewables; I do not hate nuclear energy, either - and both have a place.) And that is just energy. North America has it no easier; that I admit. Still, the same issues would have to be faced in North America (as in the US).

Look at how much the French government is looking at merely in terms of subsidies for SNCF; they OWN that. (SNCF is the national rail carrier.) The other nationally-owned carriers are facing identical costs - and that is just subsidies - I have not factored in energy costs yet - those are not cheap, either. Similar costs are whacking the private rail carriers (a large number of which were spun-out former national-flag rail carriers similar to SNCF - they got spun out due entirely to those costs - now you re asking that the same governments take them back. The citizenry won't do it; they are going to look at those costs and scream "H*CK NO!") Read the local papers in Europe.

Because France has pushed and used nuclear power to a much higher degree than Germany, and in no country the Greens have so much influence than in the German speaking counties, especially Germany (unfortunately). Happy Christmas! I last went on a TGV from Paris to Avignon about 8 or 9 years ago, one New Year's Day. I wasn't very well, and slept the whole journey, which was after dark - my husband commented that we could have been anywhere, hurtling through the dark at 186 mph!
Great video on the OUIGO brand of the TGV services may not be as good as the normal services but I can be good if you are on a budget but don't want to spend hours on a slower regional train or intercity coach I think I will definitely use this service in the future also I like the train colours and France has a very well connected high speed rail network also hope 2021 will be a better year for travel

In advance it can be very cheap. Next may Ouigo starts operation in Spain, in Barcelona - Madrid HSL. They are refurbising and transfering 10 Euroduplex 8xx to Spain for the services (5 round trips per day; 2 direct, 3 stopping at Tarragona and Zaragoza). But in Spain the trains will mantain 1st class, bar and will be staff on the train.

I have read about OUIGO services online but this is the first time i've seen them for real albeit on TH-cam and in my opinion is a lot better service and value for money than i thought it was. So precisely for this summer, I took the Ouigo de Marseille Saint-Charles twice, I live in Marseille, to Marne-la-Vallée Chessy Disneyland, because I love Disneyland. This journey represents happiness for me. And I took the Ouigo with the t-shirt I bought from Dylan's store! Then that happiness at Disneyland. I have the annual passport. Afterwards, in September and October, I took other trains for other less "happy" destinations. What a pity that you did not travel from Paris Gare de Lyon to Marseille-Saint-Charles. Not only is it my station, but in addition the Ouigo goes at 320 km / h from Avignon TGV to Aix-en-Provence TGV. I know Paris Gare de Lyon station by heart, of course. Sometimes, when the train is full for Disneyland or when I want to go to Paris, the most beautiful city in the world, I take Paris Gare de Lyon as my destination. I took everything: the Inoui, the Ouigo and all the leftover trains. I traveled a lot less this year than the previous ones, because of the coronavirus. I had to cancel two trips to Disneyland. What a disaster ! I know the journey from Marseille-Saint-Charles to Paris Gare de Lyon or Marne-la-Vallée TGV by heart !!! I take it an average of 20 times a year. It's my favorite train. If you are going shorter-distances, OUIGO and equivalents are always an option (it is why I have LONG recommended MARC - Maryland's regional rail service between Union Station in DC and Penn Station in Baltimore - yes; I have used it myself between these same points).
You were lucky to have what looks to be the first service of the day. Having been a regular user of the Paris - Bordeaux service with Ouigo for about a year and a half, the experience was quite different. The pricing kept on growing to the point at which using a Young Traveller's card and the flagship "InOui" service was cheaper. An excuse is that the line to Bordeaux has a ridiculous toll rate for every train kilometre. Maintenance on the trains of this section has also taken its toll. Toilets fittings and compartment cleaning later in the day is really bad. I'm surprised such a difference exists in quality for another Southbound service just at the opposite longitudinal direction, good on you! The last thing I am really not happy about is what looks to be a lack of an English-friendly environment. All announcements are French exclusive, and I have seen an instance of a guard trying to speak English over the P.A, that was really worrying, and if I recall correctly the website and apps are in French only. I'm a French speaker so I understand everything but I can't help but feel terrible for our fellow English speakers.

And for your information, InOui services have English speaking staff on boards and bilingual automatic announcements, even trilingual information screens. No particular excuse.

By the way, please explain how this travel thing works, because coming for the UK there seems to be no way out. I was due to be on one of these next month for my trip to disney from Lille flandres, but got cancelled because its not emergency travel, and also if you do need to travel its over £100 to get the specific test that lets you out of the country providing you test negative 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ How do you and others manage to travel, is it because your not coming from the uk?
"Decimated" air travel ? Remember that Air France (as a condition of Euros 7 billion of state aid) agreed not to compete with the TGV on the shorter journeys. But this ruling does *not* apply to AF's flights which serve CDG and which act as feeders for AF's international services. For example there are even flights from LYS to CDG even though SNCF operates direct TGVs linking the city with CDG !
To combat pollution from CO2 emission, the French government has decided to ban all domestic flights of less than 2.5 hours (basically all of them) when the a TGV alternative is available. I guess "decimated" is more like "dead and buried" now.
It has, for the most part. International train traffic in Europe - both nationalized and private - has taken it in the neck. (While I live in the US, I watch videos like this because the same companies that build in Europe - such as Alstom and Siemens - supply the US market as well. (The TGV/AGV in Europe is the Avelia Liberty in the US and Avelia Pendolino in Italy and South America - such as Brazil. Local content laws are the only differences.)

It is impossible (not merely improbable) to rely on renewables to meet that cost. (Even in North America - with a smaller passenger rail network - renewables can not do it.) Nuclear is a must - period. And even without nuclear, you still have to have natural gas or other burnables in there as fill-ins. (Do I hate train travel? No. Do I hate renewables? Also no. The cost must be paid - and renewables don't even begin to cover those costs - anywhere.)
That's like from Los Angeles to San Fran, in less than 3 hrs and without having to go through the mothertucking TSA, all for under $25. California has been trying to build this sh*t since Jesus was in pampers and still nothing. I don't mind paying for the regular TGV to be honest, French train personnel is always helpful and kind.
