As described in the Ultimate Guitar Book on p.81-. It should be one of only six made back in 1960 in this color and one of only three which survived until today.
Wine red is beautiful.. And for a 1960 wow... I think if it was me I would and a clear pick guard and volume and tone knobs so you can see more of that wine color. But leaving it in original condition I can understand.. Thanks for showing this
actually good les paul should sound like tele on steroids... we are just used to lesser specimens which dominate the numbers... most of gibson guitars are not that good at all... sad but true...
Wow what a rig.I have a 1980 L.P. Custom it's a boat anchor but plays & sounds awesome. Was this one really heavy too. I've seen where some of the old customs didnt have a Maple cap on them just one solid peace of carved Mahogony.
Hello! This was great to see... Actually, I have owned one of these six guitars! I sold it to a friend of mine in 89-90, and I've been told that it later was picked up by the Rorlling Stones road crew (they paid well for it, I heard)
@SoAwesomelyFunny Actually, It's not a fake. This is a real 1960 LPC with original cherry finish. They also had a faint "made in usa" imprint on the back of the headstock and then sent to Sweden. George Gruhn had one a while back, and he probably knows slightly more than "SoAwesomelyFunny" when it comes to vintage guitars. Not to mention Walter Carter works for him too. 100% real, no question...
Mike I do enjoy you clips, but just have to say...I would much prefer to hear a piece like this played through a sweet vintage amp-rather than an eighties rack full of geegaws. Just a suggestion my friend.
Good demo, but you never used the middle pickup setting, just the neck and bridge pickups. Also, it would have been nice if you demoed it clean, before the dirty demo and showed all three pickup setting.
+buddhamus The problem I have at times is the fact, that sometimes I only have a very short time alone with the vintage guitars I demo. You know they are of certain value, collector's items and the owners sometimes are just coming by from the airport in a rush saying "here do what you want but do it quick". :) Once I had a vintage guitar which was accompanied by two grim looking and armed dudes from a security company watching every move I made. Now try to cover every aspect in a demo with armed dudes in the background. :p

+Mike Burn Cool. This was the first of your demo's I've watched. I liked it a lot. It's nice that a someone will let you demo their guitars. I'll be sure to check out more of you video's.
@SoAwesomelyFunny Just so you know, you're wrong. Read the first line in his description. These aren't unknown. You might do some more research before you make a comment suggesting it's fake.
I can play, I think I’m halfway decent, but I wouldn’t even touch vintage models which were standard issue, let alone an ultra rarity such as this sucker! I hear Christopher Guest bellowing, “DON’T TOUCH IT!”
This guitar is in original state, which means PU-selector down=bridge, PU-selector middle position=bridge+middle pickups out of phase (!), PU-selector fully up=neck pickup.
It was actually a 57 Goldtop Standard refinished in red by Gibson for the original owner. After Clapton had it a while, "Lucy" was given to George Harrison who later let him play it on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
In the first half of the video I used a Marshall JCM 900 MKII HighGain and in the other half a 70's vintage Ampeg VT40: :) www.musicgoround.com/p/364666/used-ampeg-vt-40-vintage-electric-guitar-tube-amplifier
Hugo Mejia Hi ! In 1960 The Original Gibson Les Paul was discontinued and in 1961 or so was then changed to the Double cutaway version Les Paul that was thinner and this itself was discontinued as a Les Paul but this then became The S G in 1963 . The Original Les Paul single cutaway version was reissued in 1968 . Cheers ! 😎 🎩
lol it's fake, Gibson started using wine red in 1968, and the serial numbers on the headstock are not the right style. Plus, it doesn't sound nearly as good as one would...
Mike Burn is such an inspirational guy. Not only an amazing guitar player but a nice person too.

Beautiful headstock at the beginning! That's how every Les Paul video should start! Lol
great video!! i love seeing these weird versions of the classic les pauls
A real red, make that cherry beauty Mike, equally great playing from you, good show ma man. My Gybson 345 1963 is the same colour, real old beauties.
The color is actually "George Gobel" red. Gibson's George Gobel model was the first red guitar offered by Gibson around 1958.
One sweet LP. Very nice playing too.
just found my dream guitar
Thats a really bright Custom, almost strat like in tone!

That is one crazy special piece.
Mike Burn I really like the look and tone of this guitar. Very nice.
#Gibson
this thing is easily worth at least double any custom from the same year, just for that custom color!

Very nice my friend....I enjoyed very much !!
sounds sooo good.
The best LP I've ever heard :)
It's real, all right. A friend of mine has one of the other ones.
Wonderful. Thank you.
Sweet guitar
love the 80`s rock!! :)

@ChrisTrabantProject Where did you look up the serial number? The original ledgers from Gibson from 1959 & 1960 are missing....
Excellent
Beautiful!!
great job
It's not out of phase. Common misconception. It's simply what two PAFs sound like that close to each other.
The middle position is the bridge and the middle pickup.
not in this case
@mbafmike Where do you find these wonderful toys?/
Not sure about "wine red "in 1960. Is this not see thru cherry?
Nice😊👍❤️
The one in the ultimate guitar book looks a bit more heavily used, are you sure this is it?
What I want to know is.... who broke the other three? I hope they didn't get into the hands of one P.Townshend?
Why didn't you play on middle position ?
your amazing man where are you from i want a guitar lessen of you :D
I love this dude...he's like the Swedish Chef of guitars...except (I think) not Swedish.
Mike I do enjoy you clips, but just have to say...I would much prefer to hear a piece like this played through a sweet vintage amp-rather than an eighties rack full of geegaws. Just a suggestion my friend.

...no… don't even point
Much much better through the straight VT-40. I don't care for a primo vintage Les Paul through an eighties rack full of efx, myself.
Nice rock playing but I noticed you did not use the middle position once. why?
beacuase it blows
Nice playing! So how is the pickup selection arranged?
This guitar is in original state, which means PU-selector down=bridge, PU-selector middle position=bridge+middle pickups out of phase (!), PU-selector fully up=neck pickup.
Mike Burn. Thank you for the clarification- in the video it looked like you were switching all the way down then all the way back up-
Didn't Eric Clapton have a very similar LP Custom, His one only had two pickups but I think it was a wine red as well
+Tim G
Clapton's was a 1959 that was also wine red. ( Thus the two pickups )
It was actually a 57 Goldtop Standard refinished in red by Gibson for the original owner. After Clapton had it a while, "Lucy" was given to George Harrison who later let him play it on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
Oh ok cheers for the proper information guys
He played one black beauty with Delaney and Bonnie
2:09 Demo ;)
3 volume - 1 tono ?
but its custom 1968 the colour wass used in the main lines i geuss.
what's the price my good man?
What amp did you play through?

How much did it weigh Mike
赤いレスポールカスタムはレア
It isn't untrue in 1960, Gibson stoped the les Paul model Process? Man

@@petal.4334 I have owned 2 1961 black single cutaway Les Paul Customs.
@@richardrybinski2320 Not possible unless you owned a fake Les Paul's. Gipson did not make any single cutaway Les Paul in 1961.

nineteen hundred sixty 😂
Grayson Majocha technically not wrong lol
@noreasons2eguitarst according to his accent he seems to be german... stimmt doch, oder? ;D
@mbafmike it just does not sound good enough to be a real les paul from that era
Hey Mike, I sent you a message on MLP.
sounds to good
excellent condition not mint though, mint is new.
@1axehandler naaaah it's fake!

I certainly wouldn't pick so hard on such a relic from the past .. :(
Well he might never get another opportunity. Life is too short for what-ifs. :)
Why? It’s a guitar that should be played not a piece of art to look at.
