The lyrics are familiar yet fresh and I love the unbalanced phrases that quite unique. I’d love to see that virtual concert someday.

I love 9 songs and like 1 song, which is "little things". I rate the whole album an "A" "A+" for the first 5 songs and "A-" for the last 5 songs. My top 2 songs that I play the most from this album are "Bumblebee" and "I can be that woman". "Bumblebee" has that "Fernando" sound with the gentle marching drums with the additions of the harp and 80's keyboard that makes this song that much special. "I can be that woman" is a great contemporary country ballad that tells a story of a man and woman who were not the one they were from the past but now they are the one for eachother.

Great to hear ABBA making 'new' music after 40 years! You mentioned how well they 'articulate vowels' in their music. Did you know that when ABBA started neither Anni-frid or Agnetha spoke any English? They had performed their early 'English written' songs phonetically. Their hit 'Waterloo' was first released in Swedish! Apparently, Agnetha doesn’t feel comfortable with her level of English anymore so she rarely speaks English in public. And, ABBA actually recorded/performed each of their hit songs in multiple languages (English, Swedish, Spanish, and German...now that's real talent)! So wonderful to hear them sing again!

    • @standersson6420

I dont think is correct to say that Agnetha and Frida didn't speak any enghlish at all. They learnt english in school and Frida had been singing american jazz standards as vocalist in a big band more than 10 years before Abba.
Another thing is that it seems they dont felt and feel very comfortable speaking english in public.

The big global news of this 21st century for the music world is the return of the legendary Swedish pop group ABBA to the recording studios after more than 35 years (the last was "The day before you came") and the edition of his new songs after 39 years (the last was "Under attack") and a new album after almost 40 years (the last was "The Visitors")
Beyond that these three data are for the Guines Book of records (I believe that No Group or Singer or Artist can come close to these incredible brands), the most remarkable thing is How they returned, with what level of quality And I must say that ABBA overcame all fears, doubts and expectations Their return is shocking and his quality is still valid
    "Don't shut me down"
    it's another surprise from ABBA
A pop song was expected, but there were reservations and fears for what it could be (and here I include doubts to the voices of the girls due to their age) And we find a magnificent work
The beginning is with Agnetha's voice attacking with the pleasant company of the piano. What Agnetha does in that introduction is anthology, exquisite modulating and using different nuances with her mature voice.
Until Benny's signature piano glint (nod to the mega hit "Dancing Queen") and ABBA's typical pop song is with us, with the fans, because the lyrics speak to us.
and Agnetha assumes that decoding of almost four decades and gives us her beautiful voice as the strings grow and lead to a memorable chorus with Frida reliving the historic third voice of ABBA
But it doesn't end there, the second part adds hooks and a xylophone is added to the bells (a nod to the marimba in "Mamma Mía"), and the pre-chorus has more force with Agnetha and Frida and the violins anticipate the elevation to a chorus triumphant final anthology reminiscent of his greatest hits
And it ends with a soft and sweet Agnetha voice and piano melody (nod to "Thank you for the music")
    Thank for your great reaction
and for Your respect to ABBA music
now wey waiting for the new album
and see in next ABBA vídeo
    GOD bless You

This song is a direct message, an explanation to their fans of what happened with them in 1982 and where they are today as a group and as friends. To the fans; "Will you keep me standing in the hall, or let me enter (your life). I believe the apartment that the song speaks of is their recording studio where there was love before and they feel the strong friendship there still. I believe that the apartment that the song speaks of is their recording studio where they used to laugh and enjoy each other so long ago and found that when they all came together again there to record this album that many of the emotions came in the door with them! They all seem to be good friends now. I think that Frida and Agnetha have always remained good friends! In behind the scene video clips it looks like they genuinely enjoy each other!
    I'm excited for this!

@@michaelmiller378 I think most of that negativity was created by the tabloids of the day trying to generate controversy and bolster sales. Tabloids would create a narrative to try to get people sucked into the drama. They would just totally fabricate a negative story and print it knowing they would be sued for slander. They were making so much money that they could afford to lose the law suit, pay the fine and STILL come out in the plus column! I know that sounds hard to believe, but it is true! before there was FACEBOOK there was; The Star, The National Enquirer, The Examiner, The New York Post and a host of others.

@@michaelmiller378 In my 67 years I have, rarely, known 2 equal female artists to REALLY get along other than "Business-wise".
Almost every woman I have met in my years in London has wanted to be "Queen Bee" whether it's being a barmaid, in The Office, or in The Kitchen. They do not, usually, like other Women equally in their space. Men hang out, like to compete, and joke with each other. They Will go to The Pub together which is not really a Female thing so that may well be right but who knows. The truth would be known from their contact over the last 39 years or lack of it...

    • @chelseacharger
      @chelseacharger 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Isleofskye Haha. Funny how we both find ourselves somewhere completely different. Hoolie videos to ABBA. The two women in ABBA have stated there was a competitive edge but it wasn't unfriendly. Being successful solo singers prior to the group forming, it was natural that each would want to be lead vocalist on as many of those great songs as possible. Benny and Bjorn delegated the duties fairly equally and of course had the option of them sharing the lead on many numbers, which they did to great effect. But tensions between bandmates are certainly not confined to females. It seems a recurring theme in many groups where lead singer and lead guitarist are at odds with one another. Or the principal songwriters. Ego's clash. Dave Gilmour and Roger Waters in Pink Floyd. Lennon and McCartney. The Van Halen Brothers are various bandmates. Even the Gallagher Brothers. Members of Bon Jovi refused to even travel on the same plane between gigs. In all those years, I've not heard any of the ABBA members speak ill of the others, whilst in other bands there are sores that have never healed.

I think the lyrics are also directed at the audience, and not just to the music industry. They're giving you a warning that they're not the same as they were when you last saw them. They no longer have the beauty of youth, nor do they have all the faults, drama, and inexperience of said youth. They have a different beauty now, and the wisdom of age. "I'm not the one you knew. I'm now and then combined, and I'm asking you to have an open mind". I think they couldn't have made a better choice. A LOT of people tend to forget that we all in fact do age.
Reminds me of a interview with Carrie Fisher in her 50s or early 60s. She expressed frustration over how fans expect her to look like Princess Leia forever and won't allow her to age as she sees fit. She exclaimed "For god's sake, what do you expect - I'm OLD! (Don't know why I came to think of Carrie Fisher. Same time era and age group I guess.)

Some artists it really works for but it means that when they go to perform live they more or less just mime. The message in the songs is both about their relationships and the fans. I must say I certainly was bewildered when these songs dropped. But also thrilled.

Would you do a reaction to Allie Sherlock singing Coldplay's Viva La Vida?
Like to know what you think. :-)

ABBA is History, they should not do this.

This is typical Boomer music. Simple harmonics, simple rhythm, a stripped-down version of the Belcanto music of the Boomer's parents. The video shows old footage of Abba; this is a good idea, since on current photos in especially the two ladies look rather careworn -- posing in futuristic outfits, which gives a rather absurd vibe. I think they got a lot of money for the comeback, but they should better have left the good memories untouched ...

This is more GenXer music than Boomer music. Boomer music would be the Beatles, Janis Joplin, the Stones, etc.

@@eq1373 Not at all. The last boomers were born in 1964. I was born in 1963, so ABBA's active years took place while I was aged from 11-19. For the record, I am also the author of books about The Beatles.
