I can't help but wonder if it's meant to be a sound coming from the outside....or if so much time has passed and the Narrator has been left alone for so long that he has become something utterly inhuman that can do nothing but scream, forever trapped in that room.
Thats interesting. When I first got to that part I almost froze hearing that noise. Going from the calm and relaxing music from when there was nature to this was some big whiplash. But yes I really wonder what it’s actually supposed to be. Wether it’s the narrator gone mad, some unspeakable horror outside the room, or something all in Stanley’s mind we may never know and honestly, I like that kind of stuff. Leaves fans speculating Who knew a game so funny could get some ligit chills
It's definitely something coming from the outside, when going near the hole in the ceiling, it becomes louder. When looking through the 3D Scene and models, in reality, there's nothing outside. However, if looking at this from a real-life perspective, if this was real, I don't think we want to know what kind of horror and terror is going on outside beyond the room, because I doubt we'd live to tell the tale! 😨
My theory is that at some point the earth was victim to some cataclysmic event that blocked off the sun for a couple of millions of years and what we are hearing are the wierd species that evolved from the remnants of life as we know it
Y'know, very few games have managed to genuinely unnerve me and startle me without jumpscares. The Stanley Parable was not one of the games I was expecting to accomplish it.
I this these hell sounds come from the twelve legged invaders from space you hear about in the Unplug the Phone with the Bucket Ending. Earth has lost that war at this point and all you hear is desolate nothingness as those invaders survey the lands for any other survivors.
This sounds like some eldritch being came to earth, and now all that is heard is the screams of the damned. The victims of something immeasurably horifying.
This is the only thing ever that has actually managed to deeply scare/unsettle me. And I'm someone that watches and plays horror stuff specifically to laugh.
In the context of this ending, I think this is the Narrator. His mind has gone so far beyond hate and fear and peace and insanity, the only thing left now is his eternal darkness and screaming, screaming to be heard. Because somewhere, Stanley is going to come back from his next skip, and all he can do is listen.
I just had a crazy theory, 1. this is the canon ending of the game 2. When the skip button end resets , we are not actually playing as Stanley, we are playing as Jim which might explain why one of the name buttons says Stanley 3. I do think the screams are the narrator because at 2x speed you can hear him scream Stanley in like a high pitched voice and same with the other creepy sound but you can hear him say Stanley, where are you ? 4. To me it’s weird to see the Stanley parable 2 memory zone but we only seen the first one , which goes back to my playing as Jim theory 5. It goes to show you have people that can write these reviews can tear a person apart remember don’t change something just because someone doesn’t like it. If I missed anything let me know 🙂
Gambhorra'ta's cursed creations cried out into the void, searching for food. It was 560,001,300 years since the skip button was first pressed. The evil wizard, in the midst of the desolation, took the corpses of the remaining humans and molded them together into horrifying creatures with 12 slender, tall legs, roaming the grey, empty, dust-covered wasteland that was now Earth. The Narrator was the lone survivor, hiding in the wasteland trying to survive with what little he had. And then, caught in the middle of it all, was Stanley. sitting, alone & completely isolated, at the edge of time itself. with nothing to do but sit and wait, he took a deep breath, *_and pressed the button._* The outside world knew nothing of his existence.
my own idea was: this was the end of the universe before a singularity that turns into a big bang, where everything shrinks and comes to a single point of origin, leaving whatever absolute apex predators are left to scream before being obliterated
Everyone's ideas here are amazing honestly. I don't have any ideas for the creepy screeching monster, but an inspiration of @Carter Jamestown. That part reminds me of Futurama. Forgot which episode but it's when Bender, Proffessor and Fry tried out the new time machine. They went too far ahead in time and can't go back, so they kept going forward until eventually, it looked similar to the desert when the button breaks. But since they can't go back even at the end of time, they still go forward and eventually, the universe cycles again. The universe dies and rebirths the same thing and the three can go back to their original lives if they time it right. Maybe that could happen if the button was capable to pause Stanley enough and not break. The Narrator uhh probably might not remember the button since it was pressumable that he died or just dissapeared when Stanley reached the desert part and it's the same old Narrator, it's just that the player or in this case Stanley learns from his mistakes. Of course goinf forward until the desert is what's supposed to happen becauase that's what the developers wanted.
This is the closest thing I'll ever get to the ghost wailing of the sims 1 era. That ethereal otherworldly disturbance, I swear it has the same feeling.
Just imagine in the desert you came back in the room with 2 choices whether to escape or the fix the button and go even further..... Hmmm i wonder if there's more, reply if you know what's next.
Due to me mostly playing this game around others and thus constantly having the volume low, I never heard that much of most of the music. I wish I had.
My theory is that the narrator has Finally snapped and basically killed humanity for stanley but it caused the narrator to be killed within the destruction
There's honestly a bunch of theories in my head. The ones I like the most are the one where after millions of years humanity finally started the nuclear war and set off nukes, turning the earth into a nuclear wasteland, and as a side effect creating some strange mutations from the nuclear waste which could be making the distant sound that sounds like screams. The other theory could be that the room is now so far bellow ground that the sound is made by some kind of railway or other transportation system. And the third one, the Narrator also turned into some kind of mutation and is now haunting Stanley with the creepy sound to get back at him for pressing the button. The third one is farfetched but I feel like it could be one of the first two. But hey, it's all just a theory. A GAME TH-

i think so much time has passed that the biosystem on earth has evolved into something terrifying
Since the narrator is the only thing capable of making any vocal noises in the stanley parable, what else could it be?

the Stanley parable is an horror game! It's just hidden with the commedy, but each word and each end has it's part of tragedy.

Sounds like something from Silent Hill
This ending was haunting beyond words. I don't even particularly like or agree with the Narrator, but I sympathise with them regardless.

Hm, but then why does the narrator still call Jim 'Stanley'? And who even is the narrator at this point?

No wonder the room that was floating on water turned into a desert, it all evaporated into space
Unless science proves me wrong

I think the room was under Walmart with an angry screaming bratty kid
