I don’t really want a ‘real’ funeral for myself. But if the the people I leave behind want one, that’s fine by me. On one condition: this song will be played and the (probably few) guests will get a copy of the lyrics. This is my life.
Hi Todd..Welcome into Marillion world. Really happy about your reactions People will talk to you about the FISH era. Sure it was greatfrom 82-87..Was'nt sure concerning H IN 89 but he elevate the band to another level with BRAVE SOME LIVE SUGGESTIONS.. Power, Out of this world, Somewhere else and Montréal cause i'm a proud citizen from this marvelous city. Take CARE of yourself..
fantastic song...there are so many epic and wonderful songs to discover: The new kings ,Neverland ,Ocean cloud ,The opium den suite from Brave;Eldorado...never ending list
Here are the super lyrics: The world's gone mad And I have lost touch I shouldn't admit it But I have. It slipped away while I was distracted I haven't changed I swear I haven't changed How did this happen? I didn't feel myself Evaporating... My body has gone But my eyes remain Hovering. Witnessing. Cold as a ghost .watching the streets Sheltering in doorways of Venice, Vienna, Budapest, Krakow, and Amsterdam I have become the invisible man The invisible heart beating against you The invisible pulse silently thumping I shout my name in the public places No one seems to notice No one understands I stand perfectly still In the middle of the road I hold my nerve I hold my nerve Hold my nerve But the cars don't swerve I will hear your prayers As you whisper alone I am the one you felt was close Close behind you in St. Stephen You lit a candle Blessings in the cold night air I'll feel your breath as you turn to go I'll watch you leave From somewhere up high As you cross the park In the Autumn light In the Autumn light In the Autumn light If I close my eyes I can see where you live Climb the winding stairs Up to your apartment The scent of you preparing His evening meal I must watch in dread When he's cruel to you In horrified silence As you make love I cannot lift a hand Lift a hand to stop him I don't exist What can I do? What can I do? I will scream in your ear As you're passing by I will wrap my arms around you You won't hear, you won't feel me I will walk stride for stride with you I will try to help When you stumble You will stumble through me. I have become the invisible man It's all I am Invisible I have read all your letters I know what you contain I have dreamt your dreams My head. My head is haunted I will scream again "I am perfectly sane" "I am perfectly sane" But I am The invisible man I am The invisible man Talk to me Acknowledge me Confide in me Confess to me ... or Leave me be Leave me be.
This song was originally on their 2004 album "Marbles", which is such a great album. There have been a few live clips posted on YT from differing years, unfortunately the best one from "Holidays In Zelande 2011" was taken down by the band, but some lesser clips still remain. I think the removed one was in Blu-Ray quality, so not completely surprised they took it down. But anyway, this is an amazing song, both lyrically and musically - so glad you enjoyed it.
You really should go to Neverland from the same album Marbles. Masterpiece of an album full of gems like this. Brave is another one, to listen as a whole "loud with lights off" like it is mentioned in the booklet of the Brave album.
Steve Rothery has never been a skinny guy, but you can see him expanding before your eyes as the years pass by. Around the time of this video, I was alarmed for his health. I don't think there was anything alarming stated in public, but he just doesn't look right, cheeks puffed up, eye sockets dark and sunken. I"m happy to report that he seems to have realized he needed to take better care of himself. He's lost a fair amount of weight. His eyes look just fine. He is sporting a goatee these days, and he just seems really happy in any interviews or similar video appearances. It warms my heart to see this. He's one of our world's greatest treasures. I don't see the following suggestion, and it is song that had a great impact of real world events. Fans probably already know he song I'm talking about 'Out of This World". which tells the fateful story of Sir Donald Campbell's quest for the world water speed record. Sir Donald's jet powered hydroplane, Bluebird, went airborne on one of his runs, flipping over and hitting the surface of that Scottish Loch at over 300 mph, killing him instantly and shattering the boat, which sunk to the bottom of the Loch at a depth well over 1000 ft., taking the body of Sir Donald with it. A guy who worked in the deep sea salvage business heard Marillion's song and immediately realized that although it was originally impossible to retrieve the wreck and the body, advances in submersible technology had by the time the song was released now made a salvage operation feasible, and a project was launched to do so. I"m not sure who may have funded it, but it was successful, and Sir Donald's body was laid to rest after a funeral service on the shore of the Loch. Steve Hogarth was asked to sing at the service, presumably "Out of This World". I read that Steve Rothery attended, too. The Bluebird was reassembled and repaired and once again zoomed along the surface of the Loch, although I think I read some sort of legal dispute erupted over ownership rights. It is displayed in a museum now I recommend this because Rothery is front and center in the mix of "Out of this World", and producing a variety of guitar sounds which very much fit the sadness of the story. th-cam.com/video/s9GEuFDGSYg/w-d-xo.html

Marbles is one of their best albums form both eras
What can you say, underrated band and the Hogarth haters, just listen to the passion and emotion. Awesome and great reaction
Love that you’re getting into Marillion. The bass player’s name is Pete Trewavas, it’s pronounced a bit like trousers.

Thank you ! One of my favorite Marillion song of all Time …
Here are the super lyrics:
The world's gone mad
And I have lost touch
I shouldn't admit it
But I have.
It slipped away while I was distracted
I haven't changed
I swear I haven't changed
How did this happen? I didn't feel myself
Evaporating...
My body has gone
But my eyes remain
Hovering. Witnessing.
Cold as a ghost .watching the streets
Sheltering in doorways of
Venice, Vienna,
Budapest, Krakow, and Amsterdam
I have become the invisible man
The invisible heart beating against you
The invisible pulse silently thumping
I shout my name in the public places
No one seems to notice
No one understands
I stand perfectly still
In the middle of the road
I hold my nerve
I hold my nerve
Hold my nerve
But the cars don't swerve
I will hear your prayers
As you whisper alone
I am the one you felt was close
Close behind you in St. Stephen
You lit a candle
Blessings in the cold night air
I'll feel your breath as you turn to go
I'll watch you leave
From somewhere up high
As you cross the park
In the Autumn light
In the Autumn light
In the Autumn light
If I close my eyes
I can see where you live
Climb the winding stairs
Up to your apartment
The scent of you preparing
His evening meal
I must watch in dread
When he's cruel to you
In horrified silence
As you make love
I cannot lift a hand
Lift a hand to stop him
I don't exist What can I do?
What can I do?
I will scream in your ear
As you're passing by
I will wrap my arms around you
You won't hear, you won't feel me
I will walk stride for stride with you
I will try to help
When you stumble
You will stumble through me.
I have become the invisible man
It's all I am
Invisible
I have read all your letters
I know what you contain
I have dreamt your dreams
My head.
My head is haunted
I will scream again
"I am perfectly sane"
"I am perfectly sane"
But I am
The invisible man
I am
The invisible man
Talk to me
Acknowledge me
Confide in me
Confess to me ... or
Leave me be
Leave me be.

Thanks for the story, i will be sure to check out the song.
Pete is such a talented musician, he’s also a multi instrumentalist and sings backing vocals; one of my favourite bass players :)
For more of Pete's bass sound, have a listen/look at Transatlantic...
