I always thought the politics of the Earth Kingdom were great in Korra. I just wish the writers had spent as much effort on the characters as the world building and come up with _literally anything_ other than a stupid fucking mecha suit as the final boss... :\
Kuvira had victory in her hands and she simply disposed of it. Once they came out of the spirit realm, her personnel could of subdued Korra in the state both of them came out of the spirit realm. Or they simply could have taken Kuvira away from Korra and continued their full on assimilation of the United Republic. I dont buy that evangelization Korra did on Kuvira one bit, that shit happened so quickly, even if Korra saved her life and what not. But I guess plot and stuff... To me, Kuvira won Republic city, and she effectively solidified the unification of the entire Earth Empire. Where they began heavy industrialization soon afterwards, modifying and improving their military and installing border defenses all throughout their kingdom. With all that size of mainland, the Earth Empire surely has a great amount of resources to its disposal. Aside from possibly defending against incoming invasions from the fire nation and the water tribe, Kuvira quickly began modernizing and advancing her civilization into the space age, where her subordinates reached the moon, while also developing anti Avatar level weaponry, and mechasuits, not necesarily requiring spirit energy but the power of science! With the Earth Empires resources, and access to metalbenders, with their newly aquired knowledge, and access to space, the Earth Empire develops a lunar base on the moon, and with it, develops 20 satelites stationed around the world: 8 serving as communication relays, whereas the remaining 12 are weapon purposed: with 4 serving as Mecha-Giga-spirit energy weapon labeled Kyoshi satelites, and the remaining 8 are projectile droppers labeled Kuvira satelites, where they drop hollow platinum tubes. Should an Avatar bend the spirit energy beam coming from a Kyoshi satelite, there is always the Kuvira satelite to counter that effect. With Kuvira projectiles being made of platinum, there is no possibility a metal bending avatar could prevent the projectile from dropping. This way Kuvira not only secures and stops the Fire Nation's and Water Tribe's invation into Earth Empire territory, but she also subdues them, and omits them as Earth Empire Subortinates. Should any of the other societies step out of line, they will be met with a spirit beam, or a platinum projectile coming from the heavens. With a great number of soldiers in her military and new being supplied to her increasing army, Kuvira starts stationing forces in the Fire Nation and air temples, to subdue the civilization's even further. This effectively sets Kuvira as The Great Uniter, and the Earth Empire's complete control over the entire avatar world. Kuvira had this.
If Izumi see that Kuvari is becoming to threatening the Fire Nation itself. She would say: "Oh sh*t, here we go again." Then the Second Fire-Earth war begin.
Fun Fact: It is stated that in The Legend of Genji, which has Genji who is a 17 year old Earthbending and Sandbending Avatar after Avatar Korra died in 192 AG at the age of 39, the Earth Kingdom becomes the Earth Federation under the supervision of Wu a bit after Kuvira's battle against Republic City.

its stupid, and its not surprising that it came from the legend of whorra. It would have been much more realistic if the earth kingdom became a socialist state. socialism may have begun in Europe, but it still became quite popular in asia, especially china, the country that the earth kingdom is based off of, and north korea.
