That's a 1967 Plymouth Fury III. It was Plymouth's answer to the Chevy Caprice and was a very popular car. The red color is original. My neighbor has a gold convertible like that all restored beautifully. It must have been dumped there a long time ago because it looks almost restorable and nobody would dump that car out there today unless it was used as a parts car.

Sarah, I learned a long time ago to never close the door on a running vehicle unless you roll the window down enough to get in there in case the door locks itself. It happens sometimes.

Totally correct. I work for Enterprise Rent a Car and have witnessed vehicle doors "self locking" several times. Large SUV's can have a problem with this!

I was high school class of '75, and got exclusive use of the former family car, a silvery gray '66 Fury VIP, the only trim level higher than the Fury III. The grille design changed a lot in '67, and your desert car has the newer grille, though I am not expert at knowing changes after that, or lack thereof, so it could possibly be a '68. I'm sure a little Googling to compare years would reveal the answer.
Back then, cars were made of thicker steel. To wash the roof, you could stand on the hood or the trunk without denting it. Of course at the time, I weighed not much more than you do now. Not sure whether I'd dent the hood now! If you visit it again, take note of how huge the trunk is. The full-size spare tire sat on a shelf in the trunk up by the back seat, and there was still a huge amount of space between that and the rear of the trunk.
On my '66, the gas filler was behind the rear license plate, which had a hinge and springs for you to flip it out of the way to gas up. It held 25 or 26 gallons. Mine was a 4-door hardtop, similar to a sedan, but without any post between the front and rear windows. Collectors prefer the 2-door, but I beg to differ, the 4-door was a great car for cruising around with friends.

Thats a Michigan loader. And yes i did get lucky in a Plymouth fury 3 it was a 69 police interceptor. The one you found is a 67. They changed the grill and headlights annually. Glad you got to test out the new suspension and scratch a few itches while you were at it. Its pretty amazing how fast the temperature drops as you go up in elevation. At the weather transmitter you had that, " my nips can cut glass" look lol. 37° and almost a 20° degree drop in a few minutes, you notice that big time! Glad the rig is ready to travel. I know your feet have been itching for a road trip for weeks now. Get outta there and do your calendar already! Happy travels Sarah

100% 1967 Plymouth Fury III 2 door hardtop, column shift, bench seat quite possibly the BB383 commando engine. Entire driveline is missing leading to believe might have been stolen and stripped for the desirable 383, 727 trans and 8 3/4 rearend. Definitely not worth restoring but plenty of good parts left intack. Don't have to remember driving one as i still do, a 1965 2 door Fury III 383. Check my vlogs for a glimpse of it running with that good ole chop sound!

The air cleaner is missing a cover to keep rain out. The plastic swirly things spin the air cause dust to fly out of the "Pre cleaner" before the intake air gets to the paper air cleaner.. Which has an outer filter and an inner "safety" air filter.. so there are three stages to the air cleaner basically ..

I owned a 1966 Plymouth Fury III more than 30 years ago. The car in your video is a 1967 model, restyled and enlarged that year; the 2-door hardtop is worth more than the sedans, but in its condition, it's either parts or restorable value. The Fury was Plymouth's full-sized and most expensive line; the trim levels from lowest to highest cost were Fury I, Fury II, Fury III, Sport Fury, and VIP. The I was generally for fleet purchases; the I and II didn't offer hardtops. The III sold the most. The 318 with a 2-barrel carb was the base engine; it's worth more with a big block, either 383 or 440 that year.

I think it is funny that Sarah pulled off the road and half way into the ditch to go check out the "Dork." Your in the middle of no where, you can hear or see someone coming for miles, leave your vehicle in the middle of the trail where it is nice and level if you are not going to be there very long. You won't have to fight the door if you stay level.

Around 1968 booted a Fury III out of a dealer's lot. Took a 3 hour drive along Route 1 in CA. Returned the car about 3 AM to the lot. Loved pushing that 383 a few times.

Sarah could get a hard hat and an orange vest and pose in that bulldozer thing. I think that would be a nice picture for her calendar. Maybe her wearing that wig she had at Burning Man too. If I saw a car parked way out there in the middle of nowhere I think I might be careful, especially if you see anyone there with a shovel.

Even here in Australia, I know that 67 Plymouth Fury is a classic & won't be there next time!

The weather station is a RAWS. Remote Automated Weather Station. BLM (aka the federal government) has a network of stations across the western states that they use for fire weather forecasting.
