for anyone interested, alamelu mani amma is the real life mother of singer hariharan. she is a top grade carnatic vocal teacher based in mumbai. as of now i am learning hindustani since 3 years from two teachers in london, but when it comes to carnatic then i am self tought mainly through youtube and the internet and intence amount of listening. and these videos help me a lot in grasping the technical aspects of carnatic music. in hindustani you sing the notes straight away, while in carnatic you are almost touching the notes ajaisent to it. for exemple, in carnatic when you sing re, it sounds like you are almost touchiing ga when you come down, but in hindustani its clearly audible what notes you are singing. also the use of gamakams are frequent in carnatic while they are mostly used for decoration in hindustani from my view. this video teaches you a lot about the beauty of the music. although my tamil is not that good, the demos of the songs really gave me an insight in to what's going on. this is a very helpful lesson in my journey of learning southindian classical singing all by myself. wish everyone of you all the best for this year's december music festival, and stay safe. hello all the way from an iranian woman from Sweden: Nicki.
