    This is the tunnel that went under my family's farm. So very sad to see how it has deteriorated over the years. As a boy my dad would sit above and watch trains go through. It was to have a double track in it but the second one was never built. Makes me homesick.

    This bridge was insane to visit. I was there in 1995 and there was only puddles in the tunnel. We went clear out to the middle platform onto the bridge
    I got so nervous once we went to leave that i crawled on my hands and knees to get back across it.

    I don't know if I could've walked out there onto that bridge! Like you guys did, I would've stepped only on the center cross-ties. Even then I'd be worried that the damn things would break due to being rotten. OMG -- as I was typing this comment, I just saw the footage at 6:20! THAT is exactly what I'm talking about! Cool drone footage and music at the end!

      It's very sturdy still. If it weren't for the missing spot where college kids had bonfire on it I'd have no issues with riding a side by side or 4-wheeler across it. I always wanted to try my dirtbike (I did go part way) but I'm not skilled enough to keep it on that beam section...

    Went to Clarion University in the early 90s and went here often to drink and smoke - funniest memory is when a friend just got done packing a bowl and when he passed it to another to light it slipped out of their hands and fell down into the creek - since it took a few seconds to hit the water we just watched it fall like we were Wile E Coyote

    The scenery is amazing, and I think I'd get the butterflies walking out to the middle of the bridge like that. I can't help but think of all the hard work the railroad workers put in to make a bridge like that. It is incredibly beautiful craftsmanship, and it's sad to see it deteriorate like that. Have you any idea when that bridge was built, Kyle? Ballpark figure?

    • @KyleMills1
      @KyleMills1  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I have found online is that it was sometime around 1900-1905. There is one more tunnel at the other end but I couldn't convince anyone to cross with me to take a look. Maybe next time

    • @BudTristano
      @BudTristano 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kyle Mills The railroad bridges and tunnels that are 4 miles south of Clarion were all built in 1906, FWIW. The trestles, bridges and rails are all gone now.

      +Vickie Minich I was referring to the section of railroad where I grew up. The trestle in this video should still be standing. I should have been more clear. I was just posting to provide a specific date for reference.

    • @BudTristano
      @BudTristano 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm referring to a section of railroad about 6 miles from the trestle in this video, and am just providing the info for reference. A trestle that was near Limestone had a plaque on it that read: "American Bridge Company 1906".

    I spent 20 yrs driving an interstate truck and pursuing my hobby of exploring old rail lines, used to carry a dirt bike on the truck. A farmer told me about this place and I found it around 1998 and it makes my top ten spots in the entire country, finding a trestle leading into a tunnel is unusual, when I was there the tunnel had 4 ‘ of water in it and was impassable,went looking for the other portal but never found it. This is the former NewYork Central line to Ashtabula Ohio, a major coal hauling route.

    • @jamison7379
      @jamison7379 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you're in the area again let me know - I'd be happy to show you both ends of each tunnel - the one they walked through is easy - the one on the opposite side isn't passable - it's regularly full of water.

    There are (or used to be) several piles of iron pellets in the tunnel. I used to go there and fill up my pockets with them for my slingshot. We used to drop fireworks from the bridge. It was funny to feel the explosions vibrate the bridge. One of the guys used to drive his jeep out to the center of the bridge. I couldn't bring myself to ride out with him when he did it. That was back in 1986.

    I grew up in Clarion walked these tunnels and tracks many times. Sorry to see they have fallen to such disrepair. We spent many weekends there and a few of my crazy friends climbed the iron trestles holding up the bridge. Young and stupid and or crazy lol I was in the tunnels one time when the train came through, had to hoof it to the the little cubbies inside and hold your hands over your ears. I got the idea to do a search for clarion trestle since I haven't in awhile and boom this amazing video pops up!
    I'm a local to the area and went to Clarion University class of '11. The trestle is a legendary hangout with all the college kids. The fact you traveled to see it is really cool.
    This is the only trestle of It's design type for miles around, same with the tunnels. They are by far the tallest and longest ones for miles.
    The drone shots were the icing on the cake! Thanks!
